Religion is an incredibly touchy subject. One that I'd really like to avoid on the flameboard because it can cause for some really horrible times...

That is quote from Miros closing the thread "From one Christian to another"

I am not trying to flamebait but after days of deliberation I can not hold this in any longer:

What a cowardly bullshit move.

Yes religon is a volitle subject, yet it is ok to have a post on the flameboard about Gay Pride Week. Last I had heard Gay Pride was a volitle and potentially leading into religion subject. Gee maybe I'm wrong and have been living under a rock and the religous right wing have accepted gay relationships and have miraculously become totally cool with it. Please let me know if this is the case.

Then there are flames that are basically "oh well you are an ass so and so" "well you Mr. such and such should go fuck a tree (this is not at all meant as a shot at the person who is famous for making that remark it was just an insult that popped in my head)", which have no social significance and yet the can go on for 100's of posts.

Now when someone has something tangible and debatable ( I personally agree with Blaze) to say that actually could affect a person in RL you slam the door on it.

In my opinion (once again, i am really not trying to flame bait, just debate) you must have some preconcieved opinions on religion and are trying to shut down an opinion that differs from your own. Why not let the post go past 3 posts before prejudging where it will lead and slamming the door shut. Wait and see if it gets horrifically ugly or is heading that way. Once the door isshut the door is shut. You let the Gay Pride post go on (which everyone knowscould eventually be reduced to a "you cocksucker" "you homophobe" debate) and let it run its course. I feel that this was pretty hypocritical and I am not just saying this because I believe in Jesus. I just think you should have given the thread a chance before it was dismissed.

Now if this was aconsensus between all the mods here I do humbly appolgise for pointing a finger. I may not be aswise as the group. Anyway I had to get this off my chest and feel better for doing so.

Actually, the Gay Pride thread didn't run its course. It was locked before Urat had a chance to respond to the later posts. No biggie, but I was kinda disappointed it ended so quickly. Such is life.

You are right but the thread was allowed to go on for 139 posts before it wasdeemed it should be closed :before it got too ugly". What is the flameboard for if not to argue differing points of view?. Name calling only (but that would be flamebaiting)?

If you want to look at it time-wise instead of posting content, the gay pride thread was only open for not even a full day more. The other thread was locked same day I think. In any case, neither lasted through the weekend and I'd consider both of them locked in timely fashions.

Because it had nothing to do with FFXI.

I actually liked the gay pride thread, a lot of good info there but in all actuality the flameboard is under FFXI discussion so the thread should have been elsewhere. If it turned into a flame, then it shouldn't be discussed on a gaming board, goto a proper forum. Same goes with your religion, it has no place on this flameboard, put it elsewhere or not at all. Problem is i agree fully with this:

Religion is an incredibly touchy subject.

And I would personally prefer to not see religious debates sneak into FFXI topics unless it was related to its mythos. I also doubt the subject would survive long in a non flameboard thread... I have been around the block enough times with religious discussions, they usually goto hell (no pun intended) and get redundantly boring.

In short, no thanks.

Religion and matters outside of FFXI do not belong on the flameboard, it (Gay Pride flame) should have been in RSI. It was closed because things were on the verge of getting heated to the point of personal RL attacks upon one another, which is a huge no-no and is clearly against the rules. So, instead of moving the Gay Pride flame, where anything else would just be flamebaiting, it was closed.

Thanks for your opinion, it is valued here. With the religion subject in the flameboard, it would be subject to all types of rude remarks said against it. I am not against a civil, intelligent debate on religion at all. Feel free to start one up in the Reality Sinks In board or The Lounge. Sadly, most people who go to the flameboard are looking to offend, mock, and belittle people. Personally, since the gay thread went so sour and south, it's obvious that the religion one would have gone the same way.

Whether or not you want to believe it, the religion thread was a powder keg ready to blow up. I just caught it quickly. There are plenty of decent debates on this forum. Most of them are outside the flameboard just fyi.

Also, I don't have many preconceived opinions on religion. I'm the gay one...for all you should have seen me close down the gay pride thread earlier. That thread did teach me a thing or two. I will be honest and say I didn't realize what the pride parade stood for!

While I understand the theory and practice of what you just said, in reality that's exactly what occurs anywhere on any part of any forum when religion is mentioned, and a whole lotta stupid comes out at every angle, be it from religious angles, atheistic angles, or just angles where someone thinks that he knows more about anything than anyone else and just has to interject an opinion.

I'll wager that there are some (not all) people who find a thread concerned with religion and set forth to do the same thing: mock, offend, and belittle. Again, people on either end.

On the other hand, I fully agree with everything you've said here. Keeping an open mind means exactly that~ keeping open to anything (not just suggestions).

Ok. I semi-see the point about the post not being on the Flameboard. The post was truely about religon yet the OP was relating it to FFXi relationships so there there is a sort of balancing act there. Also I agree that there are people on the FB just looking to belittle people ( I kind of touched on that mentality in my OP) so I could totally see it being moved. However, I still disagree with the decision to close it down so quickly.

I would like to say Thank You Miros, for responding with a clarification of your line of thought. I will admit that A) I did not pay attention to the time/date stamps on the Gay Pride thread and B) didn't follow said thread past page 2-3 and yes, it was getting ugly.

I also thank you for being totally fair and even-handed with my post (my post was misplaced and should have been placed here, I never really noticed this forum). The reason I had stewed over it for the time I did is partly because I am not looking to cause or be in trouble with people on QCDN. I have seen posts with people people claiming Miros treated them unfairly and was concerned I would be treated the same way. I now look at the prior complaints in different way and think they are probably just wounded people lashing out.

With all that being said, I have my opinion out there and TY all for listening.

How about this then?
A sub-section of the RSI board for serious debate?
A place where feelings can be hurt by people's opinions, however stupid comments (ur gay, stfu, etc.) aren't allowed.
Since apparently the big thing right now is making flameboard topics about crap that has nothing to do with the game.

We could call it "Stop Here and Raise Your Blood Pressure!"

or maybe just "Hypertension Facilitation Center".

"Haters Not-So-Anonymous"?

That sir, is actually not a bad idea in the slightest. If we did indeed do that, Flameboard would go to "only FFXI" unabridged minus ID'able information as always.

To clarify what the new board would be, I should point out, it would not be another flameboard. It would however fix the current problem we have in seperating what OPs apply where, and in what capacity the OP serves.

Or, we could just let it all be. It says "Anything goes", right? There is only one new flameboard topic a day, and only one -good- new flameboard topic a year.

All the haters can go to www.QQcdn.org/bawww.html

It shall be the Non-FFXI heated debate board.

(notice not called flame >.>)

I love this idea...

Shall i suggest if possible also making that one so that people cannot edit their posts. It will bring a new onslaught of spirited debate about such critical topics as gay marriage, religion, politics, race relations, off color humor, philosophy, economics, immigration, corporatism, Santa not giving me what i wanted, etc.

May i suggest however making the board where you have to apply to see it? Also.. it would be nice if we had another area where it was allowed to bait your targets... makes hunting alot easier.

It is a very raw idea at the moment -- I encourage your serious suggestions to be PM'd to me as this is highly off topic under this OP =p. That said, I think the point of this OP is resolved! =)
