.... for me to be pissed about a 5K tip when i openly dont charge for synths?

I mean I guess I kinda asked for it, my terms say in plain english that I craft for free, but i noticed a while ago that if i left the fee up to the client, they would typically give me more than i would've asked for....

what brought this up, I was recently contacted by several friends about a guy that was shouting for 100 smithing , with 60 gold... sure theres a few of us out there, but not that many... imo, the value of the act is kinda pristine, its not gold smithing but its still pretty high up there.

the item was Cursed Sabatons, i made the dark adaman sheets for the guy, and then the item itself, 5 synths......

5K tip.... this guy is going on my DNC list, which is very very short, and chances are hell never ask me to craft for him again....

but the question is, should i be pissed? am I asking for it? I feel a little cheated, but then maybe this guy has no clue about the system

If i was gonna be bothered for 5K, i could make a bronze knife +1

/snobby crafter rant off

I think you need to get a grip, bitch.

I hear ya. 5k tip is odd. I honestly have never been tipped that low before. When I am contacted by random people for a 1 time synthe I usually never require tip either, but a 5k tip is kinda silly.

Hey man, times are tough for most FFXI players. With the way the economy is, how are they expected to buy a lot of gil these days?

I'd rather get no tip than a 5k tip. That's just insulting.

I got no tip going 1/1 on Aristocrat's for someone.

Especially with an item that takes multiple synths, I'd be upset as well. You have the right to be. Usually I got decent tips, but sometimes people who throw a 5k tip on a 1m+ synth and go on their way. Screw that noise.

I deliver pizza for a living, and feel the same way when someone gives me a $1 tip. Keep your fucking dollar you pig. It's more insulting than it is beneficial.

I generally figure at least a 10% off full price tip should be given.

Sometimes when I shout for someone to craft an item for me I am more worried about them HQ than breaking the synth purely because I won't be able to afford the tip rofl. :P

5k is maybe all they had to spare and felt bad walking away without giving more than a "Thank you!"

I think it really depends on the item. If they are getting the mats to have it crafted then they are probably trying to save some money, and if you add a 10% tip on top of it a lot of times it can up to the cost of the actual item itself, which then becomes stupid because you just risked breaking for not saving any $. I do agree that a good tip should be offered for an HQ, though I say don't bite the hand that feeds you.

lmao - awesome. I actually tipped my driver in San Diego the other day a buck, but only because he was a jack-ass and sat there for 5 minutes even when I told him my flight was leaving in 20. geez.

I give my pizza delivery guy a £1 tip every time... apart from the fact I'm probably broker than him, he's already being paid; plus, £1 was about $2 last time I had a pizza.

You cant buy this item, i mean it is AH-able but you wont find any because the item IS a little costly to make and only has value to people that want to use the abjuration.

your scenario sounds like someone after say an amemet mantle +1 or haubergeon +1 , which are both mid-level synths and very HQ-able where the only reason you would seek to have this crafted would be for HQ. You also seem to be forgetting the fact that I have to spend my time and my services on this, these things also have value. The time I spent contacting/meeting/crafting for this guy I could've been crafting for myself, and making way more than 5K doing so.

I agree with you that it depends on the item, and it is depending on the item that I am complaining lol.

He was better off just saying thanks, and have a nice day. 5 synths, the minimum tip shoulda been 75-100k imho.

For something that's never been on the AH, I guess you have to figure out what it's profit value really is and tip to a percentage of that. What would you as a crafter charge for it, and make that a known price for the final product before people have any real gauge of a tip.

I would say for the mats, difficulty, and number of synths, this guy was an ass to not pay at least 50k in a tip. The mat price if you buy each component of the single synth is roughly 450k at high prices, you honestly can't expect to sell that less than 500k, probably much more. So a crafter really does earn 50k+ on this.

This seems pretty simple. If there is a set amount you want for crafting, why not just charge that price so you know you get what you want out of it?

If you say you craft for free, you shouldn't be too upset about getting a small tip. I mean, its entirely possible this person is just ignorant and doesn't know how the crafting/tipping system works. You can't hold it against him too much if you say, "I do it for free," and he's never had anything else crafted for him. If no one tells him, how can you expect him to know?

Its a shitty, frustrating situation to be sure. Hopefully people who have no understanding of tipping when something is crafted for you will read this so fewer people will experience this frustration.

Heh, there's a difference in ignorance and insult. A lv. 100 crafter is easily insulted by a 5k tip, I'd much much rather do charity work then be insulted by that. I woulda told him to keep that shit.
