Defender CAN and SHOULD always be on. It has been posted in this thread that she didn't use JAs, even after being told to use them.

HP earrings aren't that hot for that level, but the AGI+3 earrings or the Enmity+ earrings would work out well.

The listing of her gear shows a lack of caring. And coming from you, someone who says takes pride in gear, I'm surprised you are defending someone who doesn't give a shit.

There is a difference between having cheap gear and having useless gear. Having useless gear, there just is no reason to show up to a party with it.

Hell, you barely need 200k in gear to reach level 50. There is no reason you should be super gimped out when nothing costs all that much.
 
A good puller will not pull if the party can't handle the pull. If the PLD happens to be low on MP due to their own poor MP management, but everyone's high on HP and the healers have enough MP to be free to burn some healing non-tanks (if the PLD happens to lose hate due to not having enough MP to keep it), then a puller should indeed still pull.

Well, unless you're gonna lose chain anyway, in which case you might as well let people rest a little bit.

Having said that, no MP user is ever going to learn good MP management if their party members let them be free to burn their MP and then sit around waiting for them to get it all back before any pull. No, their puller is gonna pull fast enough that they *should* be able to keep up, and it's the MP user's responsibility to learn not to burn away MP.

And one of the best ways for a PLD to cut down on the MP they spend, is to pimp out their damage mitigation (defense, VIT, -dmg% in cases like Jelly Ring where you're not losing much in the slot, capped shield, maybe +shield skill - oh, and let's not forget eating food). A PLD who takes 70 a hit burns through MP self-healing a lot more slowly than a PLD who takes 170 a hit. (Especially if getting Regen/2/3.)

(EDIT: Note that by "pimp out", I'm not actually referring to killing yourself getting the uberest of uber gear. *Basic* PLD gear, like AF and various cheap stuff, is *plenty* for this purpose if you eat def food.)

Had a PLD just the other night who was constantly out of MP and wanting pulls to stop so he could get some back. Then again, he was requesting Minne instead of Ballad from the BRD (and for some reason that the BRD in me squawks at, the BRD was actually agreeing to this), and wasn't eating defense food, or indeed any food at all (which was likely the reason he wanted Minne).

Would've said something about it, but after the icy-cold response I got to my suggestion that he not wait on curing himself until he was down to 30% HP, I didn't think he would've taken too kindly to the notion of "eat food". Especially since I doubt I could've phrased it in any way that didn't come across as talking down. :P

PLD is fairly cheap when it comes to other jobs. At the current prices, you can easily buy PLD gear for probably 1mil tops, maybe 2mil if you're looking at gearing up for HP/Kiting gear.

Yeah right, way to exaggerate things. PLD isn't a horribly expensive job to level, and costs way less than 10 million. More like 2 million. Since most of our hard to get gear is rare/ex, it isn't that bad. As for 2 years, getting gear isn't going to take that long, you are just an elitist who looks down on everyone who enjoys taking their time.

500k so far levelling pld. But I'm an overachiever and have to have good gear.

I projected the future gear costs and how much I'd have to save...

Only looked like about 1mil total.

And I just got another 300k today doin my thang =] so i'm good I thinks.

i know wont take 10 mil and pretty much wont take him 1 year it was one them blew out porpotion on purpose statments. Maybe should start wrighting in italic when I do that I do that o well sorry for miss leading you.

What's the point of exaggerating then? You're not proving anything unless you meant what you said.

As Kage stated though, its not a race to get to 75 and someone who takes the time to quest good gear that they need before progressing doesn't make them any less of a player like you're making it sound. In fact, that just shows that they can put more effort into playing as opposed to being a lazy player who ends up at 75 with pretty weak gear and probably no knowledge about how to play their job. Such a player is no different than a gilbuyer or hacker in my books, they take the easy and lazy route to get their goal accomplished.

If someone doesn't want to take the time to quest gear, or save up to buy "decent gear" then this isn't the game to be playing period.

im not 100% but if I remember they cant equip any the enm+ earrings I tried getting my brother some.

This may be true, but all flames always are this way and the af1 body does not need to be obtain right when hit 60. I dont know, or care this person just the principal.
edit: to be honest i can see the sh being good aginst birds at that lvl on mithra, mithra have high base eva anyway and sh has 10 acc which is nice because you not eatting food. (Not saying that what she had in mind.)

That true didnt spend to much on war till higher up either.

Exactly. I used to get real pissed off if I couldn't constantly level etc. After playing WoW and taking my time to get to 70, making sure I was ALWAYS in above average gear. I've realised the games more fun that way, taking time out to do more storyline related stuff etc. Also why i'm installing FFXI now, so if/when I do come back i'll be more relaxed and wont be like "MUST GET 75 IN A MONTH". Although i'll probably see my character sat there with nothing and go and grab my stuff back off Takezaki to sell :(. Subjob quest ftl. I wont be in a rush to get to that at all.

actually that make me a anti-elitist but I'm neither. elitist would be someone saying they need have the best gear possible at every lvl. ie having the af1 body soon as you turn 60. If you believed this then you would have have +1 gear every lvl and +1 food and so on and so on. This is what i meant by my statement gl spending 10 mil. Even though I know you are not a extreme elitist the quote about not having the pants and body at there respective lvls is a elitist comment.

Okay, but what about drone earrings? +3 AGI, they last you a long time, I still use drone/hospitaler currently, and I don't see many better options in the near future. So it's not like those are the only option.

1. You laugh at me from your oh so prestigious pillar of 75-hood for not rushing to 75 and taking pride in the work it takes me to get my gear, that is elitism. I can't believe anyone would laugh at me for being proud of my accomplishments, and that I enjoy achieving them.

2. PLD AF body and legs are simply too good to pass up. They each give the two most important stats: AGI and VIT. She is already 3 levels behind on the AF pants, what makes you think she is in a rush to get her AF body?

because I know how quickly a person can get from 58-60 think I did it in 2 days on war. Also know I was wearing the af pants till 62 till i could get royal knight breeches.

she a mithra she be better off with mercenary earring, shield earring. though insomnia and stonic earrings are not bad either. hospitaler is good to.

My guess with the esquire she dont realize it your sub job need be pld not main.

really didn't know that. I wore royal squire breeches(40) till 58, af pants till 61 then got RK breeches when they droped in price. wore those till 70 then change to barone cosciales(70) then af2 pants at 74.

Point is it not the end of the world if you dont have the all time best gear for your lvl right when hit the lvl where you can get a better item.

I don't even know why I am arguing this with you, even without the AF problem she has still proven herself a lazy SOB just from her AF weapon and earrings alone. Quit trying to pull it off that she actually is good at PLD.
