I heard on my local radio station on my way to work today that in Japan, because of the deaths of kids playing online games too much, that there will be a time limit implimented for minors playing mmorpg's...

If i can recall correctly (i was laughing pretty hard at the time) they said that players will be able to play for 3 hours before their characters level is reduced to half of its current level...and after another hour it will be reduced to level one. A 5 hour break must be taken in between sessions before the character will return to its normal level...

I dont know the validity of this story...but it definately seemed legit (Pittsburgh PA 105.9 The X...as part of their Daily Gaming News Segment, at apprx 4:55 p.m.). Im gonna try and look it up right now but im tired and might just hit the sack...so if anybody else can confirm this thatd be great. I wonder if this applies to all online rpgs and if its really true.

Yes its a legit law but hasnt been passed yet. Its because of all the people dieing in Asia from lack of sleep and food when they go on 50hour gaming streaks.

I heard about that taking effect in China but not in Japan.

It seems to have picked up a lot of appendages since it was first mentioned...like that level reduction thing. IIRC it's just a Chinese ordinance to limit the amount of hours that people can spend on online gaming. Don't even know if it would have any teeth. They probably wouldn't and couldn't touch the game developers to enforce it.

wow rape... crazy asian kids need that damn Haubergeon jesus

its in China, and it'll only affect games that have servers in China.

I wonder if any companies will ever want to release any MMORPGs in China is this actually becomes a law.

If its in china, it can and will have the teeth to do whatever the government says. Thats the wonder of communists. If the chinese goverment can tell its people how many children it can have, it damn sure is gonna be able to regulate their game playing.

Hey look at the bright side. If it does become a law then the chinese gil farmers will not be in upcoming games!!

Most of the gil farmers tend to be from southeaster asia like vietnam and korea, there are chinese gil farmeres to be sure but there are alot from other poor countries as well.

I doubt it's going to affect the sellers much, which is of course the only thing we give a shit about over in China. I'm betting it's just going to assure more money for the game companies in the form of more accounts and characters. Maybe if they want to stop their people from dying of insane amounts of gameplay, they should fix their economy so they don't need to settle for 150$ a month while living in an internet cafe.

They have no game developers to control. These are all Japanese, European, and North American companies. China is not a videogaming country by default. It's by bootleg anyway.
