Has anyone played this game? I went to the mall in hopes of buying Star Ocean: First Departure, but they didn't have it. Hungry for an RPG -- any RPG -- I bought this instead because it was published by Atlus. I went into it totally blind.

I'm not very far into it, but I like what I see so far. The visuals have a very lush, hand-painted look that looks great on the PSP. The translation and voice work are also funny. There are no random battles; you see the enemy on the screen, and you get an ambush bonus if you slip up behind and surprise-buttsecks them them into combat.

It doesn't seem to be reinventing the RPG wheel, but that's not what I was looking for in the first place. It seems like a fairly solid title.

Anyone else?

Haven't checked this out yet or Astonishia Story 1 either, but thanks for the info on it, may pick them up when I get myself some $
It's a Korean developed RPG, but Ubisoft published the first one for PSP which was a remake, and the title was changed for the second.

Too bad no Star Ocean 1 for PSP in, that and Second Evolution are both great.
I'd also suggest Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled for the DS, it is very nostalgic and reminds me a lot of Chrono Trigger, graphics, text and combos-wise, but it has random battles that can occur way to frequently, I don't mind them though.
It's a WRPG, but plays like a JRPG.

No worries on Star Ocean 1 since I can order it from Amazon, although I may hold off to see if it hits PSN when the PSP Go is released.

Playing Final Fantasy 7 these past few weeks really whetted my appetite for RPGs. I dusted off my copy of Vagrant Story yesterday, but I wanted something portable.

I've only played about 45 min. of this so far, it reminds me of old squaresoft rpg style and a little bit of Ragnarok online. the dialog is really cheesy, the main character says 'woot!' so much that I dont even think he knows what it means. lol

The graphics are really pretty, the characters art they use for the dialog box reminds me of Ys's style. the in game battle play isnt so bad, if you memorize the order stuff is in ( selecting attack, magic, special, item. ect.) have to get familiar with the icons to move quick. I'm sure it gets better, I probably would have gotten farther into the game if I had looked up online where to go first. It might not be for everyone but it looks promising.
