Anyone else having trouble getting crystals?

I have tons of shards, but crystals.. No.
Then I see all these people crafting all this stuff, and I'm like, "..."

I just want to be able to make my own arrows, you know?

hmm I thought you could craft with the shards too, so I was saving them T_T that's sad lol
I think I've seen crystals sold with guild marks, but I have no clue how to get them

nono, you can craft with the shards too, only some recipes require full crystals

I'm finding that as I'm killing higher level mobs, crystals are starting to drop with more frequency. Also your elemental stats supposedly plays a part in the variety of crystals and shards that drop off a given mob.

That's what they said in the last Q&A but I bet you still have to kill specific monsters in order to get specific crystals. And like in FFXI, I'm pretty sure you need to have the monster at a specific con to be able to get crystals ans such. Just my opinion on the matter.

Oh, you're definitely correct on that. Take Marmots for instance, I've seen them dropping earth shards almost constantly. There have been ocassions though where they drop water and ice shards in addition to earth as well. I'm thinking the extra shard drops could be related to my elemental stats, but if that was completely the case then they should be dropping fire and wind shards for me as well since I have both those at 60 currently. What I'm thinking is that each mob has a primary crystal / shard drop list as well as secondary drop list for specific crystals / shards which you will only see drop if you have points in that element.

It all boils down to it still being relatively early in release and it's just a matter of figuring out what mobs drop what. As for mobs no longer giving shards after a certain rank / level difference I really haven't checked into that, but I would not doubt it if that was the case.

Depending on your element focus, it will give you a greater chance in getting those shards/crystals off of monsters. I put most of my points in wind since I wanted to specialize and I get lots and lots of wind shards.
