And on the topic of drugs..... pish pah.... the best drugs come out of California and it isn't hippies making them. Hippies are generally too unproductive to create anything of worth, it's in their nature to freeeload and make stupid crap no one wants. Don't bother defending a group of people that as a whole are too lazy to defend themselves in any meaningfull way. The hippy culture as a whole was progressive for a decade ~maybe~ but in it's current state, the movement could do for a scrubdown and some rehab to be of any benefit to society.

Folk music was taken over by hippies when Bob Dylan Came along. The Greatful dead helped with this too. So I'll just claim that whole category.

Then we have the Beatles who influenced most of the rock and roll artist you hear today. Not gonna claim that who genre though, just most of it.

Country music? Jonny cash and Willie Nelson... giant influence on just about every Musician.

Jimi Hedrix, Janice Joplin, Arlo Guthrie, Woody Guthrie, Crosby stills nash and young. Hell, Neil young is a hippy and has succesfully released and sold hundreds of thousands of albums under just about every Genre.

John Lennon(post Beatles), The Doors, Jefferson airplane, Steve Miller, Electric Light orchestra, Richie Havens, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Tom Petty, Jeff Beck, Fleetwood Mac... all hippies.

Who claims influence from Hippies?

Blind Melon, Pearl Jam, Tool, Nirvana, Nine inch Nails, Elvis, Beck, Moby, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, Living Colour, Sublime, Lynard Skynard, Arrow Smith, Dave Mathews Band, Smashing Pumpkins, Cyprus Hill, Beastie Boys, Run DMC(the fathers of Rap).... the list goes on and on....

You can't be a musician today without having been influenced by at least 1 hippy or hippy band. (unless you don't write your own music like the boy bands and pop singers).

I don't care what kind of music you like, you like somethin that was written and/or influenced by Hippies. As a matter of fact, name ANY musician, I can connect them with hippies in some way.

Your telling me those bands dont do drugs? Any good band has mass amounts of drugs behind it. Take a look at "Arrow Smith" for example. While they were pumping up the heroine we got Dream On. When they went clean we got the theme song from Armageddon...

Just because someone doesn't do the 9-5 grind doesen't make them a piece a shit.

For instance, I know one hippy who hasn't ever worked a job a day in his life. How does he get by? He took a loan out with his dad co signing and bout a old house. Fixed it up, sold the house, paid off the loan and made over $20000 on his first property.

Granted, it took him the better part of 6 months to do that, but it was the first one he did. He is also a guide for raft trips down the ocoee river. He also sold me more weed than most people have ever seen in their life.

I'm not saying all hippies are good no matter what, i'm just saying they aren't all a piece of shit.

I know a woman named nancy. She's almost 70 years old. I haven't seen her in a couple of years because she wonders around and sells clothes that she and her band of misfit hippies make. There are about 10 of em all together.

They have been to all 48 continental states since they met. Nancy has stories upon stories about the most interesting shit I have ever heard. She has traveled every where in this country and she has been to several others as well. How did she do it? However was convienent at the time.

These people don't live off welfare, they don't have kids they can't support and they make a living in a way that is fitting to the lifestyle they like to live without killing and stealing.

I guess that makes them peices of shit.

This thread is way off topic and I have nothing more for you anyway. If you can't understand that you can't put any group of people under a blanket statement like that, you are ignorant and I am wasting my time.

If you wish to discuss it more, make a thread and name it Hippies. If your attitude stays the same, the conversation won't go far as I prefer to have discussions with people that are willing to learn and teach, not criticize and degrade.

Also, I said to name one and I would connect them. You named genres, not musicians. Merengue, Cumbia and Tangos are also styles of music that came before hippies. It's hard to influence something when the composer died before you were born.

Sure, that type of music is still played, but it is very rarely composed in the modern world.

Sure that was a bold statement. If I may be permitted I shall correct it to fit any bit of scrutiny. By far, a vast majority of all music anyone in america listens to was influenced by Hippies.
