I know, a long time ago I had 56k, and my brother was downloading a Quake 2 demo... lol, phone lines were tied up for two straight days, and thats not counting the days he got knocked offline, lmao...

But, DSL is like the underdog these days, so if ya gonna complain, DSL is gonna be what they complainin about :p I think 1 in every 10 or so people have 56k, the other 9 are divided into DSL and Cable users.
 
I prefer DSL to cable. at least here. You get a private line with DSL, you're the ONLY person using that connection, it will never change, unless you get hacked.

Cable broadband, for the most part, is a "party line" connection, meaning that everyone in your region (about a 1 mile radius) using the same cable broadband company, is connected to the same line.

DSL drops offline less, too

yeah, but its ONLY during storms I get disconnected... I know I cant really complain, but any time anyone dc's, its annoying.

Weird thing is, it can be rainin like a hurricanes outside and I can get online. But the moment I hear a thunderclap, EXACTLY that moment, I R0. lol. Static discharge interferes with the signal?

Edit: BTW that pt SUCKED!!! got 1k I think.

I remember a simpler time when people had dialup and paid per hour.

I remember a friend who downloaded a good 7-8 gigs of music total in his path from 14.4k -56k modems.
 
You happen to be on Bellsouth DSL? cause i get the same thing during storms.

Can you say surfing the BBSes with your 8088? I started with a 1200 baud modem lol, and I"m not an old fart, I just started really really early. Anyone remember war dialing with Telex because your favorite BBS only had two lines, or even just one line, so only one person acan leave a message on it at a time? I'll give 10,000 gil if someone knows the name of the door game that features a barmaid named violet.
