Dainslaif activation rate

Anyone familiar with this sword? Has additional effect of HP drain.

My LS mates were kind enough to go kill Proconsul XII last night and we got the drop. I proceeded to use it to kill a few ants and had the HP drain process 3 times. Then I used it in 2 Besieged events last night and not once did it process.

Is there a trick to this I'm missing? Do I need to load up on a certain stat for it to process more? Does it just suck?
 
These proc things seem to proc much more often on weaker, lower level monsters and less on higher level ones. So expect it to proc often on stuff you farm for example, and rarely on xp mobs or HNM or likewise.

Messin around on PLD/NIN, went 3-4 mobs outside whitegate without a single proc. I would use it a lot more if it actually proced on things, now it gathers dust.
 
Also, most weapons with procs have some sort of elemental association to the proc (for example, drain is dark) - generally the proc rate gets a big boost on the matching game day.

But yeah, in general you can't depend on added effect procs like that for anything strong enough to say so.
 
it's about a 30% proc rate, not enough to rely on

the drain isn't phenomenal either

cool sword with decent stats though.
 
From experience i'd say the proc rate is far lower than 30%. More like 5%, if that. It really is rare... but the numbers on the HP drain are quite nice. Still decent DoT for the level, though. (And pretty sexy.)
 
Dainslaif has one use really, farming. Farming too weak mobs with it on PLD saves the MP pool a ton, so you can concentrate on DD'ing to kill faster. However, the proc rate is really low on anything above TW mobs and makes it virtually a no stat sword that looks pretty. The place I saw the most drain % was on gigantobugards in lufaise meadows, so it might have a monster wheel/element correlation too.
 
It's like 99% of add effect weapons, very rare.

I found that when I subbed BLM, it hit a lot more. I posted something about it here on the forums, and was told that the reason was because of an increase to the INT stat.

Although I agree the sword is best for farming, as such, you should try subbing BLM and/or playing around with some INT+ gear, just for fun.

I seemed to get a proc rate up above 70% with INT gear and BLM sub. Maybe just coincidence?

Fun sword to play around with though!

Interesting. PLD can equip Jet Seraweels and I just happen to have a pair. I'll have to try this out now.

Id like to see how this turns out. Lol I can see a bunch of PLD's running around in full INT gear with this thing on. *Hoards INT gear and jacks prices*

Some time ago, I saw in LS chat that it proced more when on DRK than on WAR, which coincides with what you are saying because DRKs have more INT than WARs.

Something you might wanna try out is seeing if it drains more on Darksday, if I remember correctly, when i had the Dominion Mace (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Dominion_Mace) it proced a lot, and almost 95% on Lightsday.

I didn't have a lot of time yesterday but I did do a couple of Campaign battles.

I went /NIN and used Dainslaif in Main and Bayard's Sword in the offhand. Equipped Jet Seraweels, Tamas ring, Diamond Ring, Abyssal earring. That put me at +18 INT.

I did have the HP drain kick more in Campaign battles, and against the main NM's, not just the elite guards. Prior to this it never processed. I didn't even notice what the day or weather was at the time.

When I get more time I'm going to try it on /rdm and maybe add an Ocean Rope to the mix and then try to fight some EM - T mobs.
