It's a relatively well-known fact that rarabs in West Ronfaure are some of the best test subjects for weapon details, given that they're all exactly the same level all the time. I think.

What throws me off is testing for base dmg, or more accurately, dmg cap. They should be the ideal subject right?

So how come I can hit a level 80ish Lamia Idolator for twice as much dmg per swing as I can hit a level 4 rabbit?

I understand Idolators have almost zero def & vit. But rarabs should not be far off. HP pool shouldn't matter either, because your swings don't scale down if you do more damage than the mob has HP - your killing hit runs through the same formula as all the other hits during a fight.

Ultimately: what's the best target to test dmg cap?

I always thought that because they have such low hp, that effected the damage. I dunno. Just a thought. It doesn't make sense with everything. Because there are other low level mobs that will take the insane damage, and yet others that just wont. Maybe something with the coding?

Qutrubs have weakness to all damage, not decreased Defense and VIT. So you get a percentage boost to your damage. Much like how Skeletons grant a 25ish% bonus to blunt damage, but Qutrubs take almost about 80% more damage. This bonus exceeds normal caps. Normally I'll crit for a max of 187. Skeletons are around 220-230. Qutrubs can break 310.

I read somewhere, maybe BG, that you have an attack cap on lower level mobs. I don't remember seeing any hardcore scientific formulas or anything but it seems to be true if you test it. If you go out killing mobs like you are talking about or even lvl 20-30 mobs your damage will not really change whether you are at normal state, Berserked, or have Defender up. Your damage should stay in the same range regardless of your current attack rating.

maybe because the Rarabs have more defense/vitality. Level doesnt really make much difference, since you can never really tell what a mobs defense is. Lamiae are undead-ish (not really undead though) so their defense is pretty low.

If you want to find max damage cap, maybe Boreal Hound? hahah....

Lamia Idolators take significantly more damage than normal, close to double damage. They're an unusual case.

That... about explains it. Thanks.

I got a 720 Jump out there with GA... highest crit was in the 500s.

You should probably just give me the weapons/equip you want tested. I'm sure whatever damage I produce would be the cap, I'm good like that.
