So it comes to this, i wish to lvl a DD class to step away from my mages a bit.

My only requirement is that I am able to brutalise the enemy in a number of different ways, whilst still looking stylish.

Anyway any comments or feedback about DD jobs would be welcome.

how can you be a real DD and not be a blm?
be ranger if your made of gil
be drk if you have gil for acc
be monk to be perhaps the ultimate BC solo-ing job (5-1 and 2-3 OO)
be sam to let loose with the WS's 10 times a battle
be dragoon to... uh... have a pretty purple pet! ah screw it, not drg... umm
be smn to be a DD once a battle or 70+ once a minute...
be bst to be uber
be bard because it may not be a DD but Bard > all ('cept mebbe bst)
out of the serious ones there drk rng and mnk were totally serious considerations but put a GAXE in the hands of a level 30+ war/thf and you've created a monster... any job but brd and whm can be wicked DD's if you put enough gil and skill into it....

Brutalize enemies in a number of diff ways...go drk >.>

Can you elaborate more on this, or are you talking about bloodpacts?

I'd also suggest drk if you don't mind the lfg time.

All DD, even rng, have long lfg times often at higher lvls >.>

Rngs? You got to be kidding me.
That is the least LFG time for DDs.

Least LFG time yeah. But that doesnt mean they cant have long ones too...

Be a DD NIN, you can hurt the enemies in every way the other jobs can do: magic, melee and ranged attacks.

Be WAR because you want to be like me.

Plus we can kick ass and if the mob turns one flick of the macro and we're tanking like the big boys.

Ranger aren't melee. They have more in common with Black mages then melee.

If you want the true melee experiance go Warrior. You can tank, conentrate on damage over time, have to worry about zero spells, and you can still be a skillchain closer.

Also, you get a host of abilities and job traits to call upon in battle. Berserk, Defender, Double Attack, and others later on.

A Warrior is the purest type of DD IMHO. You can also sub a large assortent of different jobs. Not to mention... Warrior is a preferred or reccomended subjob for just about every other melee out there anyway.

Ill be subbing Sam under my DRK endgame, but in the meantime im using DRK/THF. Monks i believe are the only ones who can outdamage drks aside from rangers, i think in melee. The nice thing about DRKs are that aside from dishing out nice dmg, you can bust out A LOT of dmg at once or in a very short period of time giving u slight control over aggro. The same can be done with thf, but you must rely too heavily on group members, which is why I dont like that sub. With the SAM sub I can dish out quite a bit of dmg in about 15 seconds most liekly grabbing the hate and being able to control it somewhat. Its taxing on the warrior and WHM, but you really need to have decent knowledge of ur spells and class. Its more stressful on the WHM than anyone else, but you wont be called a "suicide knight" for nothing. Better being the guy who takes a fall for his group than the key members. You can function with less DD most of the time, you wont be able to continue fighitng when the tank is crippled from rez effects.

I dont care how much damage you can do, grabbing hate is NOT a good thing. You make the rest of the parties job all the much harder just because you want to show your flashy scythe off.

Depending on the 'multiple-ways' of death you want to cause...

Warrior has at least a B rating in almost every damage-oriented weapon, so you can choose pretty much whatever killing device you want and be half-decent with it. However, as war, you wouldn't be doing as much overall damage as mnk, rng, drk, or drg.

Drk is pretty sweet I must say... I don't have it flagged, but I static with one and I often get jealous. Big damage and a high rating in dark magic, which makes soloing quite a bit easier (drain & aspir).

yeah, i do mean bloodpacts... they aren't really big DD's with blood pacts pre-70 (except astral flow) but they get their chunk of dmg in usually on the MB or SC....

Monks are definately hardcore though... i encourage monkliness *nods* but if you want a real job i still say BST or BRD because they are too awesome to be real...

MNK/WAR at 51+, you get double attacks and kick attacks. That's a possible 5 attacks per round, plus the gi's look great.

While im a bit biased and would like to say thf there are really too many people that still take forever on sata at mid level s like 50+.
If anything id say drg. you'll need to level war for a sub but since you have mage jobs already you can easily sub whm and solo stuff for fun while lfg at least without losing a ton of money on soloing stuff.
This is of course if you can stand being lfp for a long time.
If you go drg dont skimp on gear ever by doing your job well as a drg you can overcome drg bias and find parties at a decent rate once word get around that you know what you're doing.
I personally think we need more drg. its been months since i've been in a party with one and i miss the poor guys.
As a thf I must say they're great for sata cause they can gain tp alot faster than other melee except rng and i never have to worry about overdoing sata damage and making them tank instead thanks to jumps.

I played Sam up to LV58 until I decided to pick up Bard. Sam is still my favorite job as of now, how ever I am yet to play DRG or DRK.. So honestly I don't know, all I can say is that SAM is incredibly fun.

I plan on taking every job to LV75, or at least THF, SAM and BRD, and maybe RNG or DRG. Playing every job in the game at least once will give you a little bit taste of it, so I suggest trying everything out.
