dat hacking - change NPC clothes

I've never edited dat files before so I'm not even sure what program to use... but is this possible? I want to change the clothing that my swapped moogle uses.
 
I'm pretty sure that you would have to change the .dat for the entire moogle. Unless the NPC is one of the playable races in which case you can change the .dat for that individual piece of clothing, then you will have to change the entire character model.
 
Look up the dat file for the character type, size, and armor piece of that NPC, and change that dat file. It shouldnt be hard if you use modelviewer to find that specific piece

There are several NPC's, however, whos attire cant be changed because the entire NPC is built to have that specific look (like the CoP girls that pop out of the headstones, and Prishe)
 
The NPC in question is Ulmia. Only it's the pre-edited Ulmia that has like 36FF boobs.

I don`t mind editing the single .dat file to change the clothing, just never done it before so curious what would be the best app to do it in.

More specifically, in case it isn`t obvious, I just want to delete the clothing layer. I know it`s independant of the character`s model, if you walk up real real close to her you can get your camera under the shirt and see the goods they are hiding.
 
If you could find the .dat rom number from altana viewer then i'm sure you'd be able to make her nude. Since Altana viewer has everything from ZM to ToAU On it. I've yet to figure out how to find the .dat numbers from it but i'm sure it's something simple. For reg pc stuff model viewer works pretty well.

You are a sad human being if you want to get your rocks off a FFXI NPC, but if you must...

FFXIdats has some great walkthroughs, it's rather simple since all you need is modelviewer and the .dats you are changing.
 
She`s only one .dat file, the clothes aren`t a separate dat.

Unless you edit the actual .dat that contains the NPC information, you cannot change the way they look.
 
VRS is your program...i'm sure you can find it on ffxidats.com. There's also a nifty tutorial there (as you have read above).

Also, if looking to change dats, I'd be happy help ya out. I switch out data files all of the time. Just send me a PM.
 
I managed to get this working actually, thanks Kage for pointing me to www.ffxidats.com. Using alpha maps and that Graphics Converter 3 program, I was able to delete that pesky shirt. If only it was that easy in RL.

the upper torso portion of the dat was designed oddly though, I ended up deleting her shoulders and collarbone too. So I'll have to be a little more conservative with my alpha map.

I'd upload pics but then I'd have to ban my own ass for posting pr0n.

CmdrFly... If you think that's good... Neko-Sentai. Google it.

On the forums (yes you need to register, no it won't eat your digital soul), under NPCs, Mobs, Chocobo etc, look for the thread NPC 18+. I think you'll be happy... Last I recall there's an Ulmia already in there (can't check, in class). Along with almost every other NPC in the game. >.>
 
I got a tip about Neko-Sentai by PM, sounds much more... uh. Yeah... uh.

Probably where the Ulmia I have right now comes from. Extremely well done model, been tempted to re-do CoP since the edited one actually appears in all the cutscenes now.

She's about the same pigment as the regular Ulmia, same clothes, same hair, same face. Just has Katie Price-sized boobs, garters, and a Vida Guerra-style caboose.

I think I've seen some of Lowtech's stuff in Devi's .dat collection... he's a huge perv too isn't he?

The internet is for porn. FFXI is on the internet. Thus, FFXI is for porn, you just haven't enough paid attention.


And sounds like you've got Lowtech's Ulmia, CmdrFly. Which is a good thing. He makes Elvaan look... y'know... halfway decent?
