Well, I like writing and this looks like the appropriate place to do so ^^ Hope at least someone enjoys it. This is the ever-unfolding tale of my char and his brother, played by me of course, and one of my friends.
Tesilium stretched mildly as he surveyed the port. Nothing exceptionally extravagant, but still, it would be home for at least a while.
"Oh man, I can't believe we're here! We're actually here and we're gonna be SO famous!"
Xaren ran past Tesilium, nearly knocking him and a few other people over on their descent down the gangway. His pack flailed behind him, hitting random people as he passed.
"Xaren! Calm down, it's just a city. You've barely been here 20 seconds and you're already making enemies."
Tesilium looked around at the group of glaring passengers, nodding to each in his own silent method of apology.
"I'm sorry, brother. I'm just really excited! Today's the day I've been waiting for, for a long time. You're finally done with your apprentice training, released into the world with some ungodly magic powers just waiting to be tapped into, and I, with all my combat prowess, am poised to take the reigns of the Bastok army..."
Tesilium could do nothing but look down at his little brother with a confused and befuddled look on his face.
"First of all, my magic is barely anything yet, Xaren. Second of all, have you even picked up a sword?"
Xaren looked down at his shoes, ashamedly called out on his "superior" abilities.
"Well, no. But that won't stop me! With you by my side, we can defeat anything, dear brother. In fact, why wait? I'm off to find an armorer and a weaponsmith right now!"
"Wait, Xaren!"
Before he could even hope to say or do anything that could corrale Xaren's enthusiasm, he was off. Tesilium sighed and slung his pack over his shoulder, slowly making his way in the general direction his little brother ran off.
"I'll give him 3 hours before I have to explain to some guard that he's actually mentally challenged and be forever banished from that part of the city for the tenure of our stay."

"Oooo! I want that, and that and those. And one of those."
The vendor chuckled at Xaren, amused by the young man's excitement.
"Young man..."
"Xaren, the name's Xaren. I'm only telling you because ..."
"Because I'll remember it when you're a famous adventurer, combing the darkest regions of Vana'Diel for unseen and unknown treasures? And because you'll be sure to mention to everyone you meet, once you've achieved this phenomenal fame and fortune that your first stop was my shop here in Bastok. That I was the one who helped you along your way? And that my shop will then be teeming with customers, making me rich beyond my wildest dreams?"
Xaren stared for a long moment before rubbing the back of his head, grinning foolishly.
"Heard that before have you?"
The vendor merely nodded, a small smirk on his face. "And I'm still here, catering to new people such as yourself. Anyway, back to the business at hand. You can't wear all that stuff you pointed out. Too much armor for you. However, I have a nice suit of Bronze armor that will do you well enough, for now."
"Aww, but it's not nearly as nice as the other stuff! How am I supposed to strike fear in the hearts of my enemies when I could wrap a napkin around my body and be more covered than this homo-erotic, gladiator looking get-up?"
The vendor was silent, staring at Xaren as he inspected the Bronze pieces. Xaren slowly lifted his eyes, aware of the sudden silence.
"Oh ... I mean, these will do!" He laid down his bag of gil, counted out the cost and took his newly purchased armor to the back to change.
"Excuse me, sir. I'm looking for a young man who would be extremely eager to get out "adventuring." Seen anyone of that nature recently."
The vendor merely nodded and pointed at the door leading to the back. Just as he did so, the door flung open and out stepped Xaren, clad in his new Bronze rainment. Tesilium nearly burst out laughing, but caught himself, letting only a small snicker slide.
"Be quiet! It's all he would sell me. Says I need more training in moving and fighting in armor before I can handle the heavier stuff. No comments from you!"
"I would never talk about you in such a manner, Xaren." He let another snicker slide. *cough* "In any event, you won't be doing anyone any good without a weapon now, will you?"
"Oh I bought one of those too. Matches this set apparently." He pointed to a sheathed sword laying up against the wall near the front door. "It's Bronze too."
"Well, I suppose if you have everything you need, you're ready to adventure now, aren't you? Perhaps we should exit the city through the gate outside and hunt down your first victim."
Xaren cocked his head and looked at his brother with a small amount of resentment in his eyes. "Are you mocking me, brother?"
"Mocking? Never. I do however, possess a small amount of cynicism towards your approach to adventuring. But, everyone must learn on their own and I think I can take care of you, at least close to the city. Shall we?"
They exited the store, a small wink from Tesilium to the vendor meant no hard feelings. They passed the gate guards who expressed their concern for the safety of the citizens of Bastok who would leave to adventure. After a few brief nods, only the wind from the gate tunnel was with them.
"This is it, brother! Can you feel it? The tingling excitement across your very skin?"
"Indeed, Xaren. This looks to be quite an experience, for both of us I hope."
Xaren stopped dead in his tracks, holding out his hand to this brother's chest.
"Wait, I see something."
He crept forward, out of the gate and into the mountainous region of South Gustaberg. There, all alone and unaware of his presence still, was his first victim. Tesilium cocked his head to the side, examining their quarry.
"A bee? You want to waste your first sword swing, on a bee?"
