Dazed and confused

Hello all!

I just started playing about 2 weeks ago. I have a RDM named Dariuss who's trying to make his way in this crazy world

I've basically been solo-ing around Windhurst, selling crystals, trying to get some decent gear and spells, and fishing.

I'm not really sure what to do next though :wacko: Where to go, what quests to do, how to get in parties and stuff.

I have a couple question maybe you guys can help with:

How come I don't always see the effects form my spells? I would say maybe 1 time in 20 i see the efects happen on the bad guy, the ret of the time it just shows the damage/enfeeble/whatever. I've turned on all the effects in the config that I could find...

What the deal with jobs? Can i switch jobs and come back later without losing my levels? How do I get sub jobs?

&& i'm also a RDM ..

to get into the parties, you'll have to go into your menu, to parties, and put "search" on, which will put a "!" by your name, that way when people who have started a party are looking for people to include, they'll see that you want to be in a party and hopefully invite you in.

If you're going to be a member of my home nation, you'll have to learn how to spell it. Windurst, no H. Don't take spelling lessons from that loser Khidir. LOL

I'm not really sure what to do next though :wacko: Where to go, what quests to do, how to get in parties and stuff.

Check out www.ffxiclopedia.org. It has some good information on quests and different places to level.

Are you talking about the spell animation? What spells are you talking about? I'm kind of confused about what you mean by effect.

You will not lose any levels/experience points when you switch jobs. There is a quest you do that will grant you the ability to have a subjob. You should just be able to search subjob at the ffxiclopedia link above for the quest details.

For RDM, WHM and BLM would be the best choices initially for a sub job. If I could go back and do it again, I would have levelled those jobs up a little bit before doing the sub job quest.

Got this sorted out now... I ended up turning off all animations, logging out, logging in and turning them all on, then logging out again and everything is working. Odds are I screwed something up

It's ok.. EVERYONE used to say it that way when the game first came out.

When you hit level 18, send me a tell and I will help you do the subjob quest if I am on and free.

At level 10 or 12 you can go party and start working on group dynamic. The Dunes is the most popular place to party at that level. If you're more interested in solo, you should be good at those levels in Tahrongi Canyon and the the Maze of Shakrami. (Don't forget to pick up your Mea gate Crystal while in the Canyon)

It won't really hurt anything for you to have an underlevelled subjob early on; its expected since you don't start out with a subjob. But do try to get an appropriate subjob levelled. It will help your MP pool and your MND/INT, which are important things for RDM.

I would take WHM or BLM to at least 12 and then put it away for a bit. When RDM hits 24, I'd stop levelling on RDM and take my sub(s) up again, maybe even to 37.

I had my WHM at 42 (for access to all the teleport spells)and my BLM at 40 (for access to Warp II) before I broke 37 on RDM though I knew I wanted RDM to be my first 75. It worked out pretty well, and I learned some skills I was able to apply to RDM while levelling WHM and BLM.
