dealing with sickle slash.

Yep . . . one sickle slash alone is no big deal. It' only when you get a psider that spams it for some reason, or gets a mess of criticals followed up with sickle slash, that you have a problem.

We fought spiders many times, in the Tree and Quicksand Caves. I've only seen our PLD die once, and that was from:

Critical Hit
Sickle Slash
Critical Hit
Critical Hit

Ouch, lol. He died while the WHM was mid-cast on Cure 4, and I was mid-cast on Cure 3 ;_;
 
IMHO:
I would not recommend PLD tanks 52 and below in Bhoyada Tree against Bark Spiders. It does not happen often but I have seen Spiders do Sickle Slash almost back to back.
e.g.
PLD gets hits with one. whm or rdm casts cure IV. spiders turns and run for the mages, then another Sickle Slash. O.o dead whm or rdm.

When the PLD is 53+ though it becomes easier. On top of that a lvl 50-52 party there will take a long time to kill Spiders.

Sickle slash is the most randomly destructive move i've ever seen... i've seen it 1-shot a 73 pld solo-ing a bark spider waiting for a party in boyahda tree (1700+ dmg to a guy in full adaman) and i've seen it do 53 damage to ME, the blm... between that and AOE slow and the scariest poison(the LOW level ones in korroloka do a 6 tick) you'lll ever see they're really chancy exp mobs...
 
Sickle slash isn't that big a deal if your whm isn't asleep or out of mp. I've been hit with it numerous times on my monk, and it's only done 500-550 damage to me. I don't even have a lot of defense, maybe 230 with protect 3 on, and only about 60 vit. Although, 1200+ hp does help me survive it.

Anyways, pld can exp off them with no problem, as long as the whm is paying attention. The only people that I've seen have problems with spiders is nin's that get hit with sickle slash when their shadows are down. And we all know that without their shadows, nin's are just tissue paper between the mob and the mages. :P
 
haha sickle slash is fun.... i think last party ihad the rng got beaned with one for 988 dmg... poor taru rng.....

jet stream is fun.... eats shadows....... meh.....

Best off all are goobues though. if you level off them in boyahda tree, oh man they have like 2 or 3 1-hit-wonder attacks. I rmember spending alot of time there as my blm with a pair of war tanks... was to funny when i dropped a nuke a little to hard and that thing would run at me and do BEATDOWN, UPPERCUT, or whatever else it had. i'd always eat like 1k dmg +. one of those times where i had to much fun dieing. I had a good party though, sorta miss those guys (spyle apricoth krius).

Can I just say that as a BST, Sickle Slash is actually one of my favorite moves. Nothing brightens up your day more than to see your pet spider use that. Same with bats and Jet Stream.

Maybe if they ever make Blue Mage, my wyvern can take those subjob abilities with the AF2 body. :twisted: I can only dream.
