Hey guys,

Just wanted to give everyone some hope about obtaining items from kirin. Valkyrs took Kirin down in 56 minutes tonight. First Kirin post patch took about 2.5 hours, 2nd kirin about 1.5 hours, 3rd one less than an hour. So just try out different job combo's and Osodes and w.legs for everyone again. RNGs aren't needed to do efficient Kirin, just gotta learn to utilize all jobs you have available to your LS better. Good luck out there.

Our first Kirin post patch took a hour and a half, we thought that gods would be the biggest problem, but we actually took those down faster than we usually do.

RNGs still did the most overall damage, BLMs a close second.

He really isn't any harder, he just takes longer, I've heard of LSes going up against him for 5+ hours, at these levels with Refresh and Ballad up the whole fight its pretty hard to just run out of MP and die.

The RNG nerf on it was very noticable though, RNG only hits for 15-50 DMG on Gun now, 300 MAX Slug shots, one of our RNG decided to use Holy Bolts around the middle of the fight, and astonishingly she did just about the same damage, so that might be a money saving alternative for end game RNG, at least on Kirin.

So let me get this perfectly straight: Fights take about the same, if not shorter than they used to AND more jobs get to be used? If I'm reading this correctly, all the bitching rangers should be having to take their foot out of their mouths about now  Thank god some people decided to think instead of whine. Congratulations.

Taurothar,

What Ceasar meant was that the first Kirin we tried post patch took longer than prepatch. Prepatch Kirin took 30-45 min to defeat. The first time we tried Kirin post patch it took over 2 hours using a heavy ranger setup.

So we adapted a different strategy and was able to reduce the time from over 2 hours to less than an hour.

This example shows that post patch rangers are not as effective (duh?), and we need to adapt to different strategies to fight Kirin.

However Kirin still takes longer to defeat now.

What I was referring to was the fact that 90% of the end game rangers that bitched were saying to the effect of "Hope you're happy that we got nerfed, now you don't get to kill the gods for your abjurations." A good deal of them said just that, that we'll be paying the penalty for apparently whining about how RNG is overpowered (though at most we joked). I don't mind this update at all, but I guess people have a problem with having to adjust to new things. I'm happy that some linkshells have shifted from the 15+ ranger setups they used to whore out. Don't take this the wrong way everyone, I'm just trying to say that I told ya so.

DAMN IT

Wish I wasn't at work so I could dig up the link but there is a post on Killingifrit showing a particular RNG's damage against Kirin, he was using O crossbow and subbing WAR, hitting Kirin for 600+ slugshots and regular damage for 100+. All this post patch, if someone would post the link it would help alot.

Oh, I also finally got to exp with some RNG's this weekend, night and day difference between them too. First RNG in party insisted on using old method of meleeing upclose and using gun. She was level 61 on IT Toramas in Labrynth of Onzo. Was doing crap damage of 90 a turn and about 400 on SC's(and I say crap damage but that was still more than most other melees in party), I didn't say anything at all. Later that day I get in another party with a japanese 61 RNG, who didn't melee and stood at range to do damage. Was hitting 120+ a turn using a bow and hitting 500+ on Barrage and 600+ on Sidewinder, and she didn't miss much at all. The only time her damage dipped or she missed was when the mob rushed her cause she stacked Barrage, Sharp Shot, Sidewinder. Both of them subbed NIN.

So really, if you expect to do the same thing as you did before, yeah, RNG is going to suck. And obviously Kirin is still doable, just RNG's lost the monopoly it seems

we nvr did have 15rngs, more like 4-5 >.> blms did a good heavy dmg also with MB for 1k+ and dont forget them mnks with their chis >.<

Well, I don't think it would be taking less time, unless SE secretly nerfed Kirin as well (which they very well could have), or unless you're using more people than before. If the fights are taking less time, it probably means that the first strategy was horribly flawed...

Well, you're going to need more members in order to take down kirin efficiently. Some gods can be killed multiple times over several weeks and not drop the desired abjuration once. In the long run, yeah, have fun getting your abjurations.

Yes, now instead of throwing 5 rng and a brd at kirin, you can throw 6 skillchaining rng and a dozen blm at him.

Of course other melee can get in to SC, if you have a plan for how to stop the kiting long enough to get SC's off. It also means that those melee jobs need TP somehow, and there's nothing to build TP on there, so it's opo necklaces and sleeping pots, then fight kirin for 10 seconds, then back to sleeping up TP for 5 minutes.

ps - how many blm did you use for the fights?

we hadlike 6-9ish? and when he casting quake, stonega iv and stone 5 w/e, he stops for abit so we bust a cap in his fat dirty ass ;)

hmm

Time-wise, it's still better to sleep TP AND meditate (twice the number of skillchains basically). With enough BLM to MB, I'm sure Kirin goes down kind of fast. Maybe it's also a rather good idea to aim for windsday to kill it. It requires planning but it's not so hard.

it is possible to straight tank kirin with a pld. if all of the NA groups get to be that caliber, then you wont have a prob waiting for it to stop long enough.

I sure hope you're right when I get of level for the gods. I'd kill to be able to straight tank something of this calibur.
