Ok so, the comp I'm taking to college is downstairs. I usually use that for all my stuff. IE dl's, programs etcetc.

So today I decide: Bittorrent my archenemy I will ressurect you and finally make you work at a decent speed. Chaos ensues. I do my best to try and learn how to optimize it but to no avail. Thats alright because I know I can keep trying. Or can I?

So pretty much all of a sudden. I cant connect to jack shit. I'm like fuck, switch everything back to default, restart......nothing. Do that again......nothing ; .;.

So pretty much I probably just f'ed something up and dont even know what I did, and I dont even know where to start to try and fix it.

Any advice is appreciated.

BTW I'm on my family's comp atm. I doubt its the lan too...everything seems normal on the modem and router.

Windows restore points are very good at saving internet connections. While you likely have not made a restore point, windows usually makes them on various occasions.

How can i access a restore point?

First result google gave: ta-da
If Windows XP starts
1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
4. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system checkpoint in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
5. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
6. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page appears.
7. Click OK.

thank you thank you arigatou arigatou Rones ^^

Bittorrent ^^.

The two best clients IMO is Azureus and Bitcomet.

Asureus is a java based client Bitcomet is a c++ based client. What this all means is that Azureus will be a computer HOG and Bitcomet not so much.

I use Bitcomet, I forward ports TCP and UDP 6881-6889 to the ip address of my computer from my router. I also forward the "listening" port to my computer also.

Max sessions per IP for downloading tasks = 100
Max Half open TCP connections = 100

Those are probably overkill though they do work for me, your gonna have to expieriment but I'd high consider not leaving them default.
With only default half open connections you will tend to take forever to find a good connection IF EVER. Windows XP service pack 2 has limited half open TCP conncections to 10 to limit the impact of internet worms. The newest bitcomet client can overcome this if you change this setting.

I typically get between 50kbps to 150 kbps with this setup with GOOD torrents. I've seen 300kbps but that is like super rare. I still do get 20-50kbps torrents it all depends on whos online. But without this setup I NEVER go over 20kbps.

Give it a try, it may work, it may even work at default but it doesn't for me. I set Azureus up on my Bros computer, it worked FAST at default.

Thanks Dante. I hear the 6881-6889 ports are often somewhat clogged. Someone told me to try 10000-60000....know anything about it?

I'm trying out BitTornado right now. When you talk about IP addresses is that something you are able to do under the scope setting of ports? Or is it something involved with BitComet specifically.

When I was building another computer for myself I finished it, and it worked, but as I make small mistakes alot I go to change the old CD drive out for a new....always go to device manager and remove old items before putting in the new, it might be the same problem you're having, I do not know.

Heard about that too although I'm not sure how "secure" your comp will be with 50,000 ports wide open. Speed will probably be awesome but more likely you should choose a "range" within those 50,000 ports, I think that what the reccomendation means and not to open all 50,000.

Also I'd think if you actually allow your client to use that many ports it probably crash your comp.

Not sure though but would be neat to expieriment. Don't be suprised of being hacked or whatever though. :P

i use Shareaza for my Torrents, and depending on # of seeders, i'll get between 40-100kb/s. My highest ever was SamuraiChamploo, at 370kb/s.

Ive never had a problem, and i like Shareaza for searching for music/randomAMVs.

I get most of my Torrents from BoxTorrents(mainly Anime and Game related stuff)
