Has anyone here been close to death?

What does it feel like?

What do you think happens when you die?

I had a friend die once, he drank himself to the point of death then got shocked back. He's not one for deep conversations so I've never asked what it felt, I'm sure he didn't feel anything seeing as how he couldn't even stand.

I died in surgery once. No bright lights or anything. Just a "WTF DID YOU DO TO ME" moment when the doctor told me.

well question to the OP

do you mean...?

A. You are physically near the edge to death

B. You are involved in something that could have and should have potentially killed you

C. Either or

D. Something else?

I can describe the feeling behind B when I had my first accident. I was turning out of a left lane on a 45mph road a drunk driver driving at about 70~80mph T-bones me on my passenger side into me I cartwheel in the air a few times then land in a ditch half way upside down near a car repair shop(lolirony).

I look at a repair guy for a seemingly long time like we were both expecting death to come when the car would hit the ground since it was half way on its side.

The car lands...i'm still gripping the steering wheel, a soldier forces the door open I limp out a bit...and wonder why the hell I'm alive after all of that. When I was spinning in the air from where the blue toyota hit me all I could think about what I should've done instead being a bleeding heart.

I kinda laughed a bit when I told my family what happened but the next few days I felt different and heavier.

It's hard to explain but it's not something a regular person would crave to see, or maybe I just feel things to a deeper level than some since I'm a bit sensitive

Right before you die, you cling to dear life...like you've never have before. Every emotion in your body will reach it's limit...and then slowly you pass away with the fondest memory in your life at the last second.

When you die of natural causes, or of no fault of your own, it is your time.

If not, it means, he wins, you fail. Life is a struggle to succeed, and the rewards are always in front of you, if you but take the time to look.

And I'm not one to be run over by anyone without a fight.

Basing this on experience, or hope?

Worst I can think of was during my Wisdom teeth removal, at first they screwed up the laughing gas dosage and my body started getting this burning sensation but my body wasn't respond terribly well. I was able to speak luckily, but it still sucked sortof badly...

The time I had Pleurisy...even with Vicoden the pain was paralyzingly bad at times (to clarify how bad the pain was - I've had my hand caught in a bike chain, a finger nearly cut off, and I've had a leg cut open from falling through a storm glass window, and none of them come close to the pain this sickness gives, even WITH Vicoden) - I didn't get any sleep at all the first night, and was relatively scared. But I hafto say the dentist incident was worse, or at least gave more of a impending feeling.

In the end, I dunno if either of those come remotely close to a true experience or not. The only question that really went through my head in those cases was "What's happening to me?"...so dunno.

Well, experiencing death will defenitely clear up all the questions. If you die and there's something after, you'll get to see it. If there's nothing after and your body simply rots in the ground like every other organism on the planet does when it dies, then you will experience nothing like an afterlife.

I think death is exciting... Spices up life a little. Some people are afraid of death, and I was afraid of it at one point, too... But everyone's story has to end at some point, right? If we were all some form of Angel or something in the afterlife who never died, and singed happily day to day... how much fun would that be? It'd be like playing a video-game without challenge.

...and everyone knows what happens to video-games that have no challenge... They get pummelled to death on GameFAQs.

Anyways, the only thing that pisses me off about death is that I don't get to see how truly fucked up the Earth will get because of Humans.

Interesting way at looking at it. Im afriad simply because I love life so much, but its accepted that it WILL end sometime in the near future (in earth life, not mine)... afterall, 80somehin years on earth is a mere blink of the eye.

I fell from a second story window onto concrete face first. Knocked me out on impact. i thought I was dead. I thought I heard a voice telling me that it " Wasn't my time" and i slowly drifted back to semi-consciousness. The impact caused my face to swell close and I could hardly breath, only thing I could do is hear. No broken bones or anything, 1 missing tooth, 1 chipped one and a scar under my lip where the tooth came out .

Overall, I say its not that bad of an experience. feels weird when you hardly have consciouness breathing but can hear things people say around you.

I'm not really afraid to die, I just have things I need to do before I do die, mostly religious, others addressing lesser issues.

Things like that only make me afraid to die because I dont want to die with regrets not death itself

So it seems like you wonder what's going on, then nothingness comes...

Doesn't look too bad..

I'm getting the vibe you're thinking bout doing something stupid. I'll be in B~more tonight (Tool concert at 1st Mariner fawkers) if you wanna sit down have a drink. Talk about it face to face, instead of coming to these clowns. But if not, let me just say, the bitch aint worth it, tomorrows another day, seriously dont do that, hakuna mattatta... or at the least, max your credit cards run away to the beach buy a boat booze and a hooker and actually live a lil 1st, before doing something stupid...

I put a lot of thought in to it, I wouldn't call it stupid...

It's just I know I'm where I need to be.

But yeah, enjoy your concert hehe ^^; and thank you :).

In response through this to Prince.

I might sound like a heartless bastard saying this, but from this and the other thread, it just looks like you're looking for attention, not help or for anyone to help you. You're screaming for attention, unless you actually want to share what your problem is, and why you ask the question.

That being said, no. I won't say what you want, being that "everything will be ok". Because quite frankly, if you're going to sit on your ass and stare and sulk about it, it won't be ok. It will be the opposite of ok. No, that does not mean you should commit suicide, and no, that does not mean you should hurt anyone, including yourself. Quite the opposite. It means that if you have a problem, deal with it, and get over it. You get get nothing out of posting attention-seeking threads on QCDN looking for someone to comfort you.

And no, I in no way intend to come off as a heartless bastard. I'm just simply saying that if you actually want help with something, present us with the problem. Additionally, saying what you want to hear won't change anything. The only one that can fix a problem is you. If you're in sorrow that someone left you, you're the only one that can get over it, not us. If someone close to you or important to you passed away, the only one that can get over the sorrow is yourself, or a counselor, not us. Us comforting you might make you feel better for a few minutes, but in the end, that doesn't change anything. At the end of the day, you're still the one that need to deal with it. Hence, I won't say every thing's going to be all right. That'd be lying, because I honestly don't know if it will.

To answer your question, I personally haven't had a close to death experience, but I've had people close to me die. I have no idea what it feels like, and I think everything turns black.

The problem isn't death, the problem is how you watch it. Everyone will die at once, that's the only thing everything and everyone on this world have in common. Its what binds us together. Thinking about death too much just means you'll be more afraid of it. A child who's afraid of the dark will only get more scared if he thinks about the dark. You only live once, so why waste it on something uncertain, and most important of all, why think about it? You know you'll die sometime.

From that other thread and this thread, my guess is that you were thinking of suicide, hence why you wrote them. And I'll tell you right now, that nothing is solved by suicide. Its the most cowardly way of dealing with your problems. All it do is put sorrow in to the hearts of the people that love you, and especially your parents, who will most likely blame themselves for the rest of their lives.

You know why emo people cut their wrists? Because they want to delay their problems. Cutting themselves focuses their pain on something else (their wrists). Additionally, its a cry for attention. They want someone to see it, someone to feel sorry for them, someone else to help them deal with their problems. However, no one but themselves can help them with their problems. Talking about them with someone else is a good start.

ah death. The topic on everyones mind at least once a day.
i have a heavy fear of death. Not because its going to happen, i accept that. But because i dont know what happens next. there isnt one person in this world who can tell you for sure what really happens when you die.
We can tell you how everything in this world works, but there will never be a discovery channel documentary on what really happens after death. Its speculation and hope.

If ive ever come close to dying, i might have and i might not have. complicated in a way but let me explain.
When i first met my wife and she moved in with me at my parents house,
one night i was laying down sleeping, I was laying on my chest face down in a pillow.
Suddenly i felt the agonizing pain of my heart bursting in my chest, as if a massive heart attack and i jumped up quickly and grabbed my chest and struggled to get my breath.
I thought it was the end for sure and i felt a surge of adrenaline run through my body and i could only remember saying very fast in my head "No, Not now!"
but...i wasnt having a heart attack. there wasnt even any pain once i jumped up. But im 100% certain i felt that pain. It was like a little bomb going off in my chest.
ive never come to a conclusion on that, I KNOW i felt it, but im not sure if i dreamed it or even more eerie...felt my future.
ill never know. but it has scared me for life.
all males in my family just about have had heart attacks and some have died from them, my grandfather being one, my other grandfather has had maybe 3 or 4 of them.
i get chest pains a bit and im always scared its a heart attack ever since that day, even when i was a child i was told i would think i was having a heart attack all the time and sit there scared.
maybe its simply foreboding, maybe it was just a very realistic dream.

my only fear in death is being buried alive, i literally cant sleep at night sometimes if my mind falls on that thought. That or what if your spirit, if we have one, never leaves your body and your buried in a chamber of yourself. Its the main reason i chose to be cremated. i cant imagine being trapped buried alive waiting to starve to death or asphyxiate while slowly going insane in dakness trying to claw your way out. That would make anyone sleepless, and im sorry if it does.

That sounds like such a nice death :)

Speak for yourself >.> I have better things to be doing then to think about death everyday.. (Not really, but I still don't think about it too often).
