Death...?

i dont mean think about it as in worry about it, but death crosses your mind or is on the television in front of you at least once a day. feels like theres an invisible clock countin down somewhere and i never know when its gonna hit 0.

Prince, I'm going to have a little word with you. This is going to be blunt, and I mean every word of it. Don't shirk your eyes. I skimmed through this earlier, but I' m at work and didn't have time to respond earlier.

I'll say this. It's blunt, but get over it. The fact you're asking questions, shirking around, hinting, tells me that it's a cry for help. No, I'm not saying you're being overdramatic, or that it's even a bad thing at all; it's completely human. You are uncertain of where you are at. I don't know the details of your downward spiral, and I don't care. The thing is, the important thing you need to know, is that in seeking help, looking for it, asking around, however the means you do it, be it internet forums, personal aquaintances, etc, is still just that, a plea for help. Realize and understand that, because it's the key to the remedy.

You need to understand you're in an irrational state. We've all been there, whether it be in a state of confusion or not, a state of depression, uncertainty, etc. Don't try and write it off as a chemical problem either, an imbalance, or whatever else could be functionally wrong with the brain to cause such an attitude. This is you. Pure and simple. You are being unwilling to accept any better solution than to contemplate death and further send yourself into an unending spiral. You're afraid to die. Everyone is, be it they admit it or not. There is nothing as self-loathsome as killing yourself. Fuck everyone else, this is about you, and only you. Don't you dare try and attempt something stupid because you didn't get the response or attention you needed. Don't you dare. I don't even know you, and at no more of my expense do I want to see a human take his life over something so trivial. Whatever is ailing you now may seem like serious business, but it's not. You'll realize later down the line that you are being silly and childish.

In a word, it's time to step up to the plate and grow up. I wouldn't have said this if I didn't read that you had "thought about it long and hard and made up your mind". If your mind was made up man, you'd have done it. You care too much about what other people would think of you if you took your own life, and lets face it, you should. It's keeping you from doing something retarded.

Fuck it, ya know. I'll put this on the line for everyone to see, because it's not something to be ashamed of. People understand and feel for you, because as I said, life sucks and things just don't go right. You don't always have a chance to sift through the rubbish and get yourself out. It happens to all of us, whether or not you think so. There's been a point in my life where things just were not turning around. Things were bad, and I didn't even know it. I was in this deep, deep state of depression, and no one, not even myself, understood what was going on. You don't know me, so I'll take a minute to tell you why this is so shocking. I am a very, very upbeet person. I enjoy other people and I love the hell out of life. I would never knowingly let myself, out of personal pride and respect, fall into such a state. But man, it happens. It went so far as to me downing a lot of medicine I shouldn't have, and then wondering why the moment after. Do you want to know the process that happens after that? Here goes buddy.

You get scared. Deeply. You know your life is on the line, and you don't know how long you have to fix what you just did. For me, I called the closest person to me at the time. His words knocked sense into my brain and I called 911 for assistance. I was rushed to a hospital, where they spent the next 5 sleepless nights and days detoxing my liver and checking my enzyme levels to see how much damage was done. That was them. If you can only imagine how much I apologized to these people for what I had done, the absolute shame of feeling this way. Being a very prideful person, I was dead inside for these days, and months afterwards. How could I, John, have done something so horridly stupid? Something so low, and not have been able to explain it? I didn't have the answer.

It took months, yes, months to get life back to normal. To finally get over that attrocity. It was the most shameful thing to me that I'd ever done, until one day I realized the truth. Everyone goes through some rough times. Some more than others, some way more than others. Nothing is ever, ever worth contemplating your life over. Nothing, understand? There's reasons family and friends are so important. They are your support system and they are there to help when you are down. Use it, do not let things get so far and not understand why, like myself. I had no support system at that time, I didn't know what was wrong with myself. My co-workers didn't know, my family didn't know, my friends didn't know. All because there was no way for them -to- know. Stop thinking about this shit and talk to someone, and goddamnit stop the talk that you have made up your mind, because you haven't.

Mistra was full of win in that post, glad to hear your doing good now dude.

I can't speak for the more esoteric varieties of death, but I can describe falling from personal experience.

First, there's instant panic. Everything happens so fast at the very beginning as you desperately try to grab for anything to stop the fall. Your heart rate doubles in microseconds, triples in just a hair longer, and your body is screaming in full hysterical overdrive.

Next, there's the fall itself. Now, things start to slow down. You have all the time in the world to contemplate exactly what happened to cause the fall in the first place, but you won't. You'll still be trying to find something to hold onto, something that will at least slow you down. The downside is that although your mind is moving incredibly quickly at this point, your body just can't keep up. It feels like you're falling through molasses, a very languid process made all the more horrifying by the sensation of your heart hammering painfully in your chest so rapidly that even in your heightened state, it still feels like it's going to burst out of your chest.

Then we have the last little stretch before we hit the ground. At this point, you realize that you can't stop the fall, and if you're incredibly clear minded you might try to figure out a way to land that might actually be survivable. After all, it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end. Unfortunately, your traitorous body still won't comply with the demands you're putting on it, and unless you've got some experience with moving yourself in midair, your chances of actually mitigating the impact are pretty minimal. Your panic only heightens when you realize that impact is merely seconds away and there's nothing you can do to stop it, and that you may not survive it when it comes. At this point, in my case, you'll the traditional "life flashes before your eyes" moment, though it's a bit less romantic than they make it out to be in the films. It's less of a sequential reminiscence as your brain hammering memories into your conscious mind with a sledgehammer, in no particular order or schema. Random memories, ripped from context and significance, slamming into your brain like bullets, over and over again.

Finally there's impact. A brief, but transcendent moment of absolute terror. Having to face the soul-wrenching knowledge that "I MIGHT NOT WAKE UP". At that moment, you'd do anything, ANYTHING, for one chance at life.

In short, falling sucks. Death sucks. People that advocate suicide have obviously never done it, so fuck them.

See, it's these things that really show the potential of the human mind. Death is one of those things that helps you realize, your latent mental abilities.

Your emotions peak, your reaction time skyrockets, your senses sharpen, all in the hopes of potentially saving your life.

At the time of an accident (not only then, several other occasions too, but almost always during accidents), time seem to move extremely slow. During 1 second, you have enough time to think through several different scenarios and decide which one would be the best. This also heightens your reflex time.

This is also the time mothers are said to be able to lift a car in order to get their kids out of danger.

There's candy on the other side. Do it!

Svina, lightening the mood of a conversation since... well.. I dunno 2004 is as far as I can remember XD

On topic: I don't care to commit suicide :P I don't really feel like dealing with it, too meh... but I don't care if I die either. I look at it quite simply. Death happens, it doesn't matter. In my case, since I don't think I'm a bad person, there's only a few things that could happen (if there is a god and whatnot). I go to heaven, I am reincarnated, or (if there is nothing) I simply just don't exist any longer. Which doesn't bother me either. I don't think history will remember me anyways :P and I'm fairly sure the universe will eventually have to end some how. Suns burn out.. what happens if every sun burns out? where could anyone possibly survive assuming we could escape our own solar systems destruction. I dunno.. I just exist here and now.. that's all I really know. And I don't fear the unknown (as to what happens after death). But, ah well.

When I was going home from highschool I got hit by a car. I remember like it was yesterday. It was report card day, and it was raining like hell in November a week and a half before thanksgiving. I had my red umbrella open and was crossing the street after I chatted like I did everyday with the old crossing guard man when I heard a "Watch out!!" and everything went pitch black.

Apparently, I was hit by a car that was way over the speed limit (it was supposed to be at 25 mph) and had broken windshield wipers. According to the police who visited me in the hospital, I flew about 60 feet down the street and stopped. The crossing guard tried to push me out of the way but he was hit as well.

I didnt have consciousness for a while until about 30 min later before the ambulance arrived. We were lying in the pouring rain for a good while because my clothes were soaking wet.

The thing that kept me alive was my huge, puffed up with books backpack. If I didn't have it, I would have been dead, they said. The crossing guard however......was not so lucky. He was thrown up into the air and landed on his head. He was alive still and told the EMS to take me to the hospital first even though he was more critically injured. He passed away about a week later.

I've blamed myself for his death for a long time. He was a funny nice old man, and I wished that he would have taken the ambulance before me. I didn't know about that fact until later when my mother had told me what had happened. If he hadn't tried to save me, he would have been alive.

I had suffered a broken pelvic fracture on the left side and a fracture to my left collar bone and a numbness on my right knee. Everytime the left pelvic bone hurts, I'm reminded of that accident and his death. It's been a long time since then but I still remember it clearly.

When my Granny died last November, her last words were "I think i'm going to pass out".

Maybe that's what it feels like, you just never come to.

I do alot of rock climbing with my brother, and this one time I slipped on some damn cursed wet moss (the gayest thing to come across on a mountain) and fell on my ass and started sliding down this cliff, which dropped off about 200 yards to the ground. At the last second I turned myself around and grabbed the ledge with my hands and pulled myself back up. I didn't really have time to have my life flash before my eyes or anything like that though, I was too concentrated on catching myself.
I guess that's the closest I've ever come to death, never even been in a car accident other than a slow slide into a ditch.

EDIT: After reading through the thread some I have to comment on a few things:

You're afraid to die. Everyone is, be it they admit it or not. There is nothing as self-loathsome as killing yourself.

I've had long and deep conversations with a few people who I know aren't afraid of death or what's beyond. Christians mostly, who know they'll go to Heaven and be happy when they die. Now even if you don't believe in God or Heaven or are religious at all, you still have to acknowledge the fact that they aren't afraid of it, even if you believe it to be delusional, it's what they really truly believe.

As to your second statement: totally. I fucking can't stand people that kill themselves. I mean, how fucking stupid can you possibly be to kill yourself? I think people that kill themselves do it for attention more than anything, if you can understand that. At the very least, kill the person that put you in all this pain, not yourself....I just see absolutely no logic in that whatsoever. Or on the other hand, if you really do come to the decision to kill yourself, why not do like someone else said and have a great time before you go? Spend all your money, max all your credit cards, bounce checks, travel the world, do whatever the fuck you want without fearing the consequences. If you know you're gonna die soon anyway, why not? If I knew I had like, a year to live, I would see the world, try every drug there is, fuck as many women as possible. You see my point? There's just no logic to killing yourself.

Obviously people who kill themselves do not get joy from anything in life. This doesn't really apply.

Also, I don't think people who kill themselves do it for attention. That's what most people who threaten to do it, do it for.

Although I agree with you. Biologically, there is no reason for an organism to kill itself.

The reason they're not getting any joy from life is because they're life sucks, if they do the stuff I talked about maybe they would see there's more to life than being emo and feeling sorry for yourself, and have some fun, and maybe even change their minds about killing themselves. Of course if you're a million dollars in debt, wanted in 7 countries, and have fried your brains on drugs I doubt that person would change their mind after all the fun had been had.
