Ok, this isn't one of those "is this job good?" threads, but more of an indepth look into 3 specific jobs for my playstyle and time limitations.

I have played on and off since the NA PC release and have leveled War, Drk, Brd, and Whm to levels of merit on 4 different characters and need to try something different. I quit 3 times for 3 different reasons and just can't drop this game @.@

Anyways.... back on topic, the jobs I am examining are Rdm, Blu, and Bst.

Rdm: This job used to always be high in demand right under Brd and Nin due to flexability from support/main heal. Does it still have this characteristic?

Bst: The king of solo for leveling up to the MPK fix that hurt leave very badly. Is Bst still soloable and/or partyable?

Blu: The most loved new job supposedly able to tank, DD, heal, and support depending on SJ, but is it effective at all this or is this just specualtion?

As you can see from my past experiences, I've done DD, support, main heal and even tanked on War back in the day, but I just want to see what's possibly changed in these venues. Thank you for your time. :D

BLU can be good at all of tose, yes, depending on sub, equip set up, and spells set. However, not many people invite BLU's as the majority of the BLU's seem to suck at the job, thus giving it a horrible reputation.

BST, I won't go in to as I haven't even touched it.

RDM, I'd say is still a high-demand job.

Well it's good to see Rdm hasn't lost it's lustor ;) Too bad most Blus suck though as the job just appears to have so much potential. Thanks for your imput Uzor :D

BST go! Level it, and join The Flock. Those guys are doing some really amazing shit with a slew of BSTs against things one would think BST has no business fighting. Last I heard The Flock is moving into sky. I personally can't wait to hear/see reports on their undoubted sucess.

RDM....meh. I play RDM and it angers me. If you like people constantally whinging like a bitch because you're not hasting them right away, even though you're right in the middle of cure IV'ing their fucking ass when haste wears, then RDM is the job for you. Yes, you too can assume full debuff, refresh, healing duties while the WHM in the pty relaxes and skills divine magic.

BLU: Hey, why not. Only 1/2 the server is playing BLU. The line forms to the left.

41+ Rdm is always in demand, pt invites suck until then, but aren't TOO bad. Monotonous and horribly lame throughout 10-75 (same macros in the same order over the same timing) but! Some people enjoy getting high level fast and the excellenece that is soloing neat stuff.
*edit* What Bedwarmer said is very true too.. people never shut up even when you are doing a stellar job they assume you should be able to cast 3 spells at once.

Bst don't get invites cause people don't want to try new things. I'd invite one, I have seen them in a PT.. it's a pretty nice addition.. great at soloing and I have heard the whole patch did very little to Bsts who know what they are doing.

Blu is a good job, but as Uzor said invites are low-ish because the job requires IMMENSE time to learn ALL the spells, some requiring full PT's of people to help. Blu is -not- a time efficient friendly job.

If you are looking for a relatively easy to level job under time pressure, Rdm is the best there is. Even brd is behind that due to the rarity and price of some spells as well as capping skills which really make a difference whereas Rdm caps skills in minutes.

BST is still very soloable. The first 35 levels suck, but then again they always have and always will. I've done most of my levels after the so-called "nerf" and haven't had that many problems with it. As for BST in parties, don't expect a lot of invites. There's a common misconception that BSTs and their pets hurt party XP and all the other damage dealer jobs are favored more. But when it comes to fitting into a normie party, I'm one of those BSTs who asks "Why would I want to?"

Thanks for all your responses! What I'm thinking of doing is leveling Whm>18, Rdm>37 (the Mnd enfeebles and status cures would be alot more concerning IMO) and then start leveling Bst>? and I've done some research on Whm/Bst for getting your SJ leveled w/o partying since me being a married with 2 kids and working 40-50 hours a week and singing on the side really hinders alot of continuous play.

I also hate being gimped at anything since I have a complex that causes me to never being happy unless I become the best.... but that is another subject all together ;) Maybe I'll static Rdm and level Bst all the other time while leveling some crafts while soloing. Thanks again for all your input guys! Really good feedback. :D

WHM/BST and the Crawler's Nest escort are how I leveled that shitty job.

Bst I reccomend over rdm because you decide when to exp also you since your alone you get all of the drops which can help add up.

Blu will take a lot of time investment to be powerful ie getting spells

But getting invites as a rdm is never hard downside is that your exp is dependent on the whole pt where as your exp hour as a bst depends on your skill as a player. Even with the best tactics your exp as a bst wont outdo a great pt but it will be close enough to choose bst simply because of the availability to lv anytime.

As you get higher up on rdm you can solo T mobs(takes awhile) but not as fast.

Hope this post is helpful

If you have time constraints and want something completely different I’d say give bst a shot.

Not to belittle any other job (I do appreciate them all) but bst is just… different. You’ll have to relearn everything you knew about hate management and you’ll have to deal with a party member that can turn on you if you’re not paying attention.

My friend Mateo was taking his shelved bst on a test run in Shakrami. He said it was the most stressed out he’s been on any job.

“Oh Crap! No way in hell I’m gonna live”
“NVM >< I think I can make it”
“Damn damn damn gonne die”
“F%$#ck yea! 200 xp solo!”

He said that was basically every fight. I kinda agree. When you’re on your own with no back-ups you have to be it all with what you have. It’s a fun challenge.

Some veteran BSTs have posted some good thoughts, so I'll probably dilute what's already here, but what the heck. :D

Considering your schedule, I'd give BST a serious consideration. You can logon, and play for 45 minutes and still feel good about yourself. As with all MMOs, the longer the better, but at least you can get some exp, do some chatting, and have a good time. Since you have kids, you can deal with the "simple interruptions", and not leave half your party dead b/c you had to critique some finger painting (a very important thing to do! RL > FFXI). As with all jobs, you'll need money eventually. As BST, you keep all the Beastmen Seals that drop, and there are some BCNMs that are perfect to do as BST. I won't go into it, but there's lots of opportunity here.

RDM - Yeah, high demand. If you want high demand and less expensive, I'd go BRD. Forgive my bias, I'm a BRD... :P

BLU - Learning spells is a bit(* sometimes, but I like what the job can do. As someone posted, there's no shortage of BLUs, so you might be LFG for longer than you like.

Hope this is helpful. :)

Well, after all this lovely info and insight, I am definetely going back to my old friend Bst (only got 25 on my last character and loved it up until I quit). I might just do rdm on the side to do something when Bst gets too trying on the mind from dying 190880180790 times ;) It's just so good to be back :D

Wooo welcome to the bst club :D

I never got my toaster ; ; been one for quite awhile >_>
