I said it before. They believe it's the end of the age, and that the world will cleanse itself. They don't suggest it's the end of the world. Why ask me when you yourself mention it ? The Calendar is something that wrote itself as they recorded the heavens movements, not something they made up.
They believe its the age of the Aeon. That doesn't mean much. According to their religion, at the end of every age (aproximately every 52 years), the gods will judge mankind. However, it depends. Mankind's purpose on Earth is to take care of the animals and the earth, and sacrifice to the gods to make them happy. We're their servants. Be nice to them, and they'll be nice back.
Also, the calendar
was something they invented themselves. And they don't only use one calendar, they use 2 calendars. One 365-day one, and one 260 day one. As I mentioned earlier, the 260 day calendar is the most important one, as that is their event calendar. That was the one used by almost all mesoamerican societies. However, what makes their calendar so precise, is because of the combination of the 365-day calendar and the 260 day calendar. This combination were important to them. They formed different "counts". The Tzolk'in (260 day calendar) is composed of 20 "weeks", of 13 days each. The Haab (365 day calendar), have 20-day circles, with 5 nameless days in the end, that are the "bad-luck" days I mentioned earlier. One "Haab" is one year. These 2 combined, create a synchronized cycle consisting of 52 years (Haab's). This, naturally, leads you to believe that they didn't use a normal May 20, sunday date-naming system, and you're completely correct. Every day have a different name.
First day of the Tzolk'in and first day of Haab would then be called "Imix' Imix'", next day "Ik' Ik'", while 13 days later, it would be "Men Ik'", due to the first calendar having started over. This means their 52 year period have 18980 unique dates.
The preciseness doesn't start there, though. Their somewhat unique counting system is important as well, as its a base 20 system.
However, their most sacred date is Ik'Ik', as that only happens once every approximately 52k years, which is why they call that the end of the Aeon, as that is the first day that the two calendars both start at day 1.
Anyway, its way to complicated to describe any further. But I hope you get the gist of it, and realize that its something they invented by studying the stars' and the planets' movement over the sky.
Sumerian and Mayan along with a list of other cultures all illustrate in stone idols that depict their Gods.
The one to the Left is a depiction of an Annunaki warrior.
Well, the left one is the picture of a Sumerian god.... I'm not sure what that have to do with Mayans. And btw, the thing the gods carry in those pics is a symbol. Personally, I'd guess its a symbol for the sky. Just like the Egyptians, their images are filled with symbolic meanings. The Egyptian kings all carry different masks and beards, depending on his state. As in, where he is, if he's dead or alive, etc. The bird flying above the Egyptian gods is a symbol for one of the goddesses protecting them. She can also be seen as a woman in some cases.
In this picture we see more giants. Plus how did they know about all the planets in 4500 B.C. ? They must have at least had 30 CM telescopes to even see Pluto.
I dunno. I highly doubt aliens gave them the info though.
Another thing about the Mayan Calendar, is they never made the calendar, they fine tuned it's been easier to decipher than it's predecessors. The Calenar not only tracks the date, but highlights climaxes alone the time line.
Mentioned this before.
Christianity may or may not be based on Astronomy. They are against astrology, and they do not teach their followers anything about the planets and stars.
It is. They ripped it off the earlier religions, which were all based on astrology. There's all symbolic meanings in Christianity, which are all based on astrological signs. Such as the three kings, being Orion's Belt. Jesus's birth is the Winter Equinox, which bears an astrological meaning. There's a lot of astrological hints in Christianity. Why? Because they ripped it off from other religions, all which have their religion based on astrology.
Can't speak for Japanese religion, but i know all the others you mentioned are sibling to one another. Muslams do believe in Christ, and Moses. They call him Bhu (something like that).
Yeah, that's why I mentioned that there are exceptions. Such as Buddhism, which is based on self-fulfillment and happiness, and Japanese religion, which is based on respecting your elders and ancestors.
Including Buddhism and various other Asian religions, they believe in Serpent Gods, as do the Mayans. Religion does cause war. The Bible itself depicts Satan as a Serpent, so it seems as though we got caught in the middle of whatever conflict is occurring.
Norse mythology have serpents as well. Midgardsormr (also known as Jörmundgandr, or in FFXI, Jormungand), who Odin were ment to defeat. He were so long that his ate his own tail (representing the circle of life, which almost every religion has represented somewhere), and lay around the tree of life.
They also believe it was bad luck to be born at the end of the calendar. The calendar was a vital part of their survival. They used it to know when to plant their crops and what not. Even up to this day the Mayan calendar by far surpasses our calendar.
Like i said before, the Mayans fine tuned the calendar but they never made it. Originally it's called the Mesoamerican calendar. Mayans refined it in a more sophisticated and complexed manner.
as I mentioned earlier, the last 5 days of their 365 calendar. These days were considered "open", and ment the dead could come back to haunt them, etc. And this is also why I think you didn't read up on Mayan religion that much
I figured we were in the age of Aquarius this whole time, not sure.
According to our astrological calendar, yes. But that's because the vernal equinox is currently in the astrological age of Aquarius, where, if I'm not mistaken, Aquarius is the most visible astrological sign?... Interesting enough, it takes roughly 25800 years for it to go around 1 lap, which, interesting enough, is almost half of the Mayan's 52k (its not 52k, its actually 51800 or something if I remember right) Aeon. Additionally, we entered the Age of Aquarius roughly year 0, and we enter the next one, Pisces, at around 2150 (25800/12=2150).
Its all rather confusing to me, and I read about it a long time ago. Because quite honestly, their 52k until next cleansing makes no sense to me at all. They were well-aware that the earth etc. had existed for longer then that, or so it seems. As some dates found on their inscriptions date back as long as 32 million years in to the future and past, and also some others that state 6 million years. But yet, they state that the first, second and third worlds failed, and this is the fourth one.
Which makes me realize something, and made me read up on some things. Either everyone else, or me (probably me, but it might be both) have misunderstood some things. One Baktun is a period of 400 years (144000 days). Watch the image below.
Now, this is only a visual map. The 13.0.0.0.0 you can see under the first pretty image, is the long count, which I won't go in to as I don't fully understand it myself, and I don't feel like explainign something I don't understand. Anyway. 13 Baktuns equals one "cycle" of 5128,767123 years, which is believed to end at 2012. However, this is not what they count as the and of an Aeon, only the end of a cycle, as the end of an Aeon occurs roughly every 10th of a 13-bakun cycle. The Bakun cycle, that they're counting as "the end of the world" isn't really what the Mayans consider the end of the world at all, neither is the 10-13 bakun cycle. The one they're talking about, is simply new digits in the Mayan's long-count calendar.
I mean, quite honestly. The Mayans were smart. So if the scientists truly interpret the Mayan's writings correctly (and I interpret them all wrong), should we truely believe 2012 is the end of the world, when they seriously believed the stars were born 5100 years ago, and the world will end 5100 years later? I mean, really. In that case Maya is no longer one of my favorite religions. Its just as stupid as all the others.
