Got this game from a friend in the US, somehow he ordered 2 copies so he gave one to me. Luckily enough, my system could handle the game with HIGH PERFORMANCE mode (now that was very reasuring mind you...). Started of as a mage, like always. But shortage of priests made me think, well I should start doing priest then.
So... I am in the first island, doing quests, killing weak mobs, the usual newbie stuff. Got invited to a party (without tell but I guess its ok... newbie stuff). The reason I got invited is they wanted a healer (big surprise...) in a quest encounter. Fair enough, I look the levels and... uh... I am level 6 (maxed in that zone), the thief is 4 and the mage is 5. Suuuuure I am the highest with no tank... so I guess the thief is going to tank. We enter the cave with the quest mob. Mind you there are like 5 mob and the boss. The first thing I hear is well duh mage casting a spell to the boss. (mage pulling in FFXI came to my mind) Soon after I healed, guessed it all mobs faces me. The thief doesn't engage till I stated 4 times... (AFK without telling in FFXI) So I am here, being beated from 5 mobs and me constantly healing myself to keep me alive since I know if I die, others will too. I felt I was playing Ragnarok Online for a while playing a VIT INT Priest jesus... So we managed to beat the boss... and myself alive.
The mage asked the party if we can do another group orientated quest. Well since I needed to do aswell I agreed. The thief stayed silent for a while and soon disbanded. (Leaving party without saying in FFXI) So I told the mage we should look for a melee... NOT! He already went to spawn the frigging boss. BIG deal I healed him, piff puff splat, dead priest. The mage went like "WTF!?" and yelled for help. (pulling without warning in FFXI) Ok I respawned and got my soul back. Told the mage to hold still till we get a tank. Managed to get a warrior lvl 5. Told the mage to stay here till the warrior arrives. Well after a few seconds the warrior's hp starts to get lower and lower... I asked what the hell is he doing, but soon saw why. He came to us with at least 10 goblins chasing him yelling for help and for heal. (Bringing train to group in FFXI) Well I healed him once (I shouldn't but oh well) obviously half of the mob comes to me and makes a good beat up to a poor priest. With me dead mage followed soon after. So after respawning I went back to the quest mob spawn place with others. I started to explain how should we deal with this, since he can kill me in basically 4 hits. The mage (who has the quest item) will spawn the boss, the warrior will provoke (yes there is a provoke in EQ2) and I will heal the warrior. You know the usual: The warrior tanks, the priest heals, the mage nukes. Well now, the mage spawns the boss, the warrior... wait wtf is he doing. NOTHING. The mage is getting a beat up so I ask him to Root it (Bind in FFXI). And I heal the mage. The boss looks at me but fortunately he is rooted. The conversation goes like this:
Me: "War" please provoke, or else we have a dead priest in a matter of seconds.
War: What is provoke?
Me: Its your ability that learns at level 3, the one with a finger icon. It will make the mob
War: Oh, thought this was a pulling skill
Me: ...
Mage: War do something! (/panic mode)
Me: Just press the provoke icon please...
War: - He does provoke - (War doesn't know Provoke in FFXI)
Soon after, the mage starts to use nukes like no tommorrow (Blm nuking like mad in FFXI), the mob faces him and starts to attack. Now war doesn't provoke again. I heal the mage, and the mob now faces me. War keeps attacking with no provoke. I was too busy healing myself and the mage that I couldn't type. The mage starts running around in circle and somehow agros the goblins near by. So I heal the mage, then goblins come to me. Naturaly I die, and the other two followed soon after.
It was late, so I have tryed explaining the party IN DETAIL on how should we do to succeed the encounter. Conversation went something like this:
Me: Alright people. I want you (mage) to be in the left side where the goblins doesn't come in their patrol rute. I want you (war) to come this side so that when ever the mage spawns you hit the PROVOKE icon to get attention.
Mage: Ok
War: Ok
Me: War, please bare in mind that you should hit the PROVOKE macro as soon as it comes available for use. This is to make sure the target stays at you and you alone so that I can keep healing you alone. (FFXI teaching new players how to play... even if the macro in EQ2 has a nice description of the ability)
War: kk
Me: Everyone ready?
War: Yeah.
Mage: Yep.
So, we resume. Mage spawns the mob. War is... just standing still. W T F for the 3rd time. Mage roots the mob. Gets resisted and eats the mage. War provokes after the mage has fallen, he sais "Sorry needed going to the toilet"... I asked if every one was ready doh... It was late 1:00 AM already so I had to log out. I told the rest of the party I needed to sleep since I got work tommorrow. They begged me to stay but RL matters comes first and I was tired...
As you can see, COMPLETLY different MMORPG (of a sort), but with same kind of newbies around which I found funny, but worried at the same time. Reminds me of Whm dying first in the dunes when I was a newbie in FFXI, history repeats... maybe...
