This trailer just caught my attention.

This is coming out 5th Feb 2009 (I believe) in Japan with no word on an English release just yet, but, wow, that looks pretty cool. A Dark Fantasy RPG. What do you guys think?

Edit: Fix'd link to video.

Anyway, looks interesting. Probably worth a rent.

Man made = Make money.

I think a game that looks that good will be translated into all consumer languages and sold world wide no problem. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't give it to us until the underground gamers that view whats out there ask for it first though.

i played the asia version of this game and yeah it is really hard >.<

Hardcore game for hardcore gamers such as myself.

Its been the talk of the town on /v/. I can't imagine it doesn't have an english option with that many people playing it, so people should just import it.

As a matter of fact, the reason it's so wide-spread over there is that it does have an English option, with all the menus and text translated. Only real problem that it's all broken English.
Also, I'd rather wait and save myself the money that would otherwise be spent on all them import monies.

I imported this, 100% recommend it. If you read the correct wiki's, the broken English parts really don't matter all that much once you know the basics. This is one of the best JRPGs I have ever played. My only gripe is the rag doll physics, but you can't have it all. I have so much fun completing this, and going to have alot more doing the New Game+. If you are just a casual player and don't like being dying often (which you will be alot of the time, infact, you sort of have to die) I wouldn't bother, deffo for the hardcore enthusiast! :)

So yeah a question about the games harcoreness. Is it hardcore because it's friggin' beast mode hard or is it hardcore because when you die you loose all of your stuff? Better yet, is because it's tough as nails -and- you loose your stuff/levels when you die? Been a long time since I played through Baroque, another rogue type game would be nice to have.

From what I've read from the people who imported, you collect souls, and if you die, no matter how many souls you had, you lose ALL of them!

Not only that, but there are also times when other players will jump into your game world and either help you or hinder you.

However, the game does allow players to leave hints for other people playing through it, but the game is still sadistically hard.

As in, if you want to play Normal Mode, don't connect to PSN. If you want to jump between Easy and Hard mode at random intervals, play online.

I guess, but where's the fun in not being online in this game? >=D

You may be right.
But where's the frustration of playing an offline game? That's right, there's less <:

You don't lose your souls completely, where you died and lost your souls, you leave behind your "blood-stain" go back this and you'll regain all your souls once again. It's just a motive to get you to play back through the level to overcome that obstacle. When you are connected to the network, you also see other "blood-stains" on the ground, which when you touch them, you can see how the previous player died. It's handy to know if there is a trap ahead, or a group of mobs ready to rape you, along with user messages all over the place.

I noticed on my first play through, there is a small element of grind required as you wont be powerful enough to take on most bosses right away, even through you can play right up to them.

Another thing, there are ways around this game being stupidly hard, for example, level up your bow and arrow, this makes pretty much all bosses pretty simple in the game, but I don't recommend doing so if you want a true challenge, and purely melee'ing some bosses you will purely end up with your ass handed to you most of the time, but it's all a big learning process.

You wont have any black phantoms till later on in the game, so you don't have to worry about that right away either. By the time it happens you should be slightly more prepared for it. And can reap the rewards of destroying an invading player which lets you keep all there souls, unfortunately, if an invading player kills you, they take all your souls, so you have to stay on your toes. There are a few items that let you mask yourself from invading players, and you can hide, they sometimes give up there chase if you are far enough through the level.

Oh and here is that wiki link: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/

Absolutely agreed with Samukami, this game is amazing. It's my very first game for PS3 (Finally moved to the US and managed to get one ^^), and couldn't be happier.

It's also kind of true it's hard when you start out, but once you get the hang of the game mechanics and stuff it gets a LOT easier, just may take some time. One aspect of the game first time you play through, is the thrill and how scared you become in exploring new areas. Seriously, you learn to always run with your shield held high ahead, knowing mobs can one shot you at any moment.

In any event, once you get the hang of it, you die less and less, and i even dare to say that most boss fights are somewhat easier than some regular mobs in many situations.

I also strongly recommend starting off as a Royal the first time you play through, for 2 reasons: Royals start with a ring that has MP regen in it, an amazing buff itself (Ring's quite rare, and can only get it later on in the game); and 2 - magic (durrrrr). The spell you start off with as a royal can mostly 1 shot the easier mobs in 1-1, making the learning process much easier (due to the fact you'll die many times less than if you had started with say a Knight). Oh, and keep in mind that once you get to new game++++'s all classes are pretty much the same anyways. It's just the starter kit that differs. Don't think of this in the negative way that everything's the same, but just that if you lvl up enough you can get every stat in the game up and be as much a melee dood as a mage dood.

Also, if you die it's true you leave a blood stain on the ground and can pick it up, however if you die on your WAY back to a blood stain, the souls are gone forever. Don't worry too much about them anyways, since you won't be carrying around many souls anyways, you tend to just use them up when you have enough.

In any event, this game is absolutely stunning, awesome, and whatever other complement you can give a game. I'd absolutely recommend this game to anyone. Don't get discouraged at first if you die a couple times, you'll get the hang of it fast enough. Just getting used to the mobs and the way you can maneuver away from their strikes.

Have fun, i totally recommend this title!

Cheers

PS: Got my game off Ebay, brand new, totally worth it.
