Just a couple quick questions. Does Desperate Blows count as a spell, or as equipment haste? And can it bypass either the 25% equipment haste, or the 50% spell/item haste, or the 75% cap?

You get almost exactly 1 more hit in over the duration of Last Resort if you have all three points allocated.

Not really worth it.

Desperate Blows does blow. seriously. Don't merit it. It sucks. Well i think so. I hate it.

ya, I didnt want to at first, but I thought about it. But, Im in a stage of FFXI where I just wanna play around... And try things out

i.e. With Desperate Blows, Rune Axe ( I think thats it, latent 9% haste ) and some other things.

yea i see where your commin from :) But i don't thinnk you'll get the fully effect without meriting it to fully? yes?

yeah, thats pretty much it. I think you can merit it 4 times, or is it 3? But its 5% per merit...

I really dont understand why Last Resort is only 30 seconds in the first place, though... Especially when DRK excel in 2 handed weapons... Last Resort, imo (in all DRK's opinions I would think) should be a 3 minute ability... Like berserk. But too bad, eh?

Yea. I love drk.. If it was like that omfg.. I would be doing some extreme dmg :) too bad tho. But Im going with muted soul and the eye thingy :)

I always figured Desperate Blows worked like Dual Wield. It modified the delay before applying Haste.

If this is true, then Desperate Blows would be a good thing to merit, IF you have a good haste built in the party. Normally, people use RDM haste, but not BRD in exp pt. So with Desperate Blows and Haste, that would be 30% haste...

Add on some common equipment builds, like Walahra Turban, (5% haste) Swift Belt, (4% haste) then you would have about 39% haste... for 30 seconds.

That would lower the Delay to about 318 (if the scythe is 520 normally)... Not bad at all, but for 30 seconds only? GAY! lol. Most GS's would be lowered to 300 delay.

BUT! Lets look at what a Maximum haste build could do!

25% cap
Rune Chopper - 9%
Walahra Turban - 5%
Velocious Belt (or speed belt) - 6%
Dusk Gloves - 3%
Dusk Ledelsens - 2%

50% cap
Haste - 15%
March I/II - 9/11%
Haste Belt - 15%

15% cap
Fully merited Desperate Blows

(cyclopedia isnt loading for me, so Im gonna assume the Chopper is 500 delay)

This build would practically make you attack with a Great Axe about as fast as a Sword will. Kinda nifty... But not practical in exp

I would think it would be seperate, because nothing else if figured in with haste that doesn't lower spell recast, and it's description is "Reduces delay for two-handed weapons when using Last Resort by 5% per merit."

It would be better for it to be figured as a haste, because piled on haste is overpowered, where a seperate delay drop is much less benefitial. The only reason DW is so powerful for a ninja is because their job traits start them so far into it, a /nin sees a lot more from 5% haste on turban or haidate than from the 5% DW enhancement of a suppa when they have a moderate haste build and some spells.

I dunno about you, but you don't get Haste just to get anothet attack in per battle... you get it to attack faster, and thus kill the mob faster. So with Desperate Blow, you would get the same ammount of hits in during a shorter time, which in the end can result in killing the monster faster.

Its not there to get another hit in. Haste have never really been about getting another hit in. Its always been about attacking faster.

With Desperate Blow, you'll get TP slightly faster (unless, offcourse, Desperate Blow also lowers TP gain. Although I don't know anything about that).

What it does and doesn't do is really a moot point since you only get it for 30 seconds every 5 minutes.
