I'm looking at doing this run in the near future, and am considering going as war/drk. I've never used this job combo before, so I'm curious about Stun.

I've heard it has a high chance of landing on most mobs, regardless of your enfeeb/dark magic skill (whatever the hell it is). I've heard stories of nin/drk landing Stun repeatedly on HNMs.

Is he resistant to Stun? Am I fubar'd going with this combo? I won't be tanking regardless, so my subjob is open to many options. Just contemplating which would be best.

Oh, and blazn, before you say anything, let me save you the trouble and type it for you.

Glad we got that out of the way.

that quote is just stupid lol if you are going to sub drk let the RDM do it

Yeh. Fly if we can get Dar to have a /DRK combo I think we can destory diablos.

Diablolos isn't resistant to Stun, but you'll have to be right on that macro the whole fight. His Nightmare charge time is very short, and it can be missed. He's a really tough avatar to fight. Best of luck to you.

(Oh, and lol at the Blazn quote. Pure genius.)

What's this 'we' crap? I never said anywhere there was a drk coming...

rdm/drk = better stuner then drk/??? easy lmao

If you're going by pure magic skill, then DRK > RDM :P

But RDM can chainspell/stun, which is something a DRK can't do :P

Actually on that note, is the prime version's Nightmare worse than the BC version (duration of sleep, dmg/tick, etc)? When we did the mission we had a terrible party setup, but managed to survive and win after eating 2 Nightmares.

I get a sick nerdy fetish/thrill out of stun and stun-based ws's/ja's, and when I'm sober I'm usually pretty bang-on with firing them... but it'd be nice to know we still have a chance if I fail / am not sober.

thats why rdm/drk in dy not drk for main stunners

Same duration, same damage I think - Nightmare itself is actually nastier in the mission because it's 40-cap.

However, the dilemma with Diabolos prime is that he spams moves, while the mission Diabolos basically just sits there and smacks you and uses occasional moves. He'll either spam specials or spam spells (and trust me, his health doesn't drop fast when he Drains for 300 over and over) or both, and it just gets nastier as his health gets lower.

However, he doesn't have all that much health, so a good idea would be to whittle him down to about 50-60% and then lay the smackdown with big damage and kill him before he gets extra mean.

Throw in considerations with the floor dropping away, dealing with Nightmare, dealing with his 2-hour, and dealing with his other spells and specials of course.

I think the reference to having a rdm use stun over a drk has nothing to do with skill, as far as I know there are very very few mobs who resist stun, and I'm sure they either have a high ass resist to whatever element stun is (I forget >.>) or they're just flat out immune to it.

I agree with the rdm subbing drk, if he has drk sub and if you even have a rdm. Of course, if you're going war, you can at least watch for moves you want to stun better then most mages since most mages will likely be in the middle of casting or doing something, while you'll just be meleeing... so it does have its merits.

Like Vilurum said up above (he's also one of the people I go and fight this guy with) his nightmare is less of a worry because the amount of HP you now have uncapped, rather than what you have at 40. Though, it can still cripple your party. It'd be better to have a WHM so he/she can Benediction. Though, of course, it's not needed.

There are ways for mages to avoid Nightmare, though I can't really tell you the exact positioning. Maybe Vil can help.

Other than that, after he reaches about 50% he starts spamming Aspir, Drain, and everything else. All of his enfeeblings aren't that bad, things like Bio III and whatnot. His Drain and Aspir are horrible, so watch for those. And this really doesn't matter which tank you have.

PLD- His AOE moves don't hurt PLD's as much, but Drain and Aspir with no shadows are very nasty and can kill a PLD very quickly.

NIN- He spams AOE blind and other AOE moves that destroy NINs shadows, making them very soft and squishy.

So not matter what tank you're looking at, they both have strength and weaknesses in this BC. Diabolos, mostly, acts accordingly.

Best of luck.

I can stun Vrtra as a Thf/Drk easy as pie, Diabolos i got resisted 50% of the time. I also had +10 Dark skill. I was being yelled at for missing my stun a lot until I turned off my filters and saw I was getting resisted.

It also depends on what weapon you are using for WAR. I know the normal expectation is an G.Axe, but if your going as the stunner, Try using a sword for {Flat Blade}, that way, if your low on MP and need to pull a stun outa your ass and have 100 TP, just throw a Flat Blade at him.

Ive also noticed that He "cheats" a bit.

I beat him the first time with almost no stunning (manaburn), but when I went with a real setup, He was eating us alive. why? He would use Nightmare right after Ruminous Omen, which I believe lagged out the stunners. We even had a RDM/drk for this who used chainspell stun @ 65%, and even with chainspell wasnt able to stun the Nightmare after Omen, which blows because nightmare really sucks if youve just been dropped to 1/4 health.

You breast. We been talking about doing this...for i dunno about a month now. If you do it with another group you will still need to do it with our group.

Actually I was just going to exclude you and you alone. But since you called me a breast, I guess you can come along.
