So for the last week I've been pissin out my ass and it's starting to get sore what with all the wiping. Prior to this the most diarrhea I've ever had was once, maybe twice when I did get it, and then it would go away. Now it's been a week and it's startin to piss me off. I haven't been eating much of anything, maybe 1/2-1 meal a day, and it's been different food every day so I know that's not what's causing it. The only thing I can think of is the water. I filter my tap water with a Brita filter thing though, and if it was from the water you'd think everyone in town would be squirtin. So I'm stumped - enter qcdn. I'd rather not go to the doctor for something as trivial as the runs, but I guess if I don't get better soon I'm gonna have to. I was hoping one of you might have a smarter brain than me when it comes to this sorta thing so, any ideas? suggestions? I've been taking immodium and pepto tablets but that's not helping any. I take a gas-x thing for the insane amount of rumbling in my stomache and that does get rid of the gas for awhile, but I'm still left with runny shit. Sooo...any ideas? suggestions?

WebMD would be a good place to start.

After that, all I could recommend is eating healthier.

yeah I looked at the WebMD, all that told me was that it's "uncomplicated" diarrhea as opposed to the more serious "complicated" diarreah, and that I shouldn't need to go to the doctor until next week if it keeps up.

As for eating healthy...I've been eating terribly unhealthy foods my whole life and I've never had this problem before.

May be true, but people do grow older and things can change. Anyways, its a safe recommendation cause your doctor would recommend the same thing =P

I could swear this is just a lame parallel to the other "serious thread", however in the unlikely event you're really having a bout with the shits, try eating uh more.

More you have in you, more to shit out? ;O

I've found my more fufilling dumparooskis to come from a prior day's hearty eating!

I eat a minimum of three meals a day since I've been lax with my workouts, but I normally eat up to 6-7x a day and I've been fairly regular even with only three!

Drink a lot of water with electrolytes. Your body needs to replenish the liquids and nutrients that are being lost due to poor digestion. Also, I think you should see your GP even if it isn't "serious" Diarrhea, as you could have a gastrointestinal infection.

...Leccie, the things that come out of your mouth disturb me sometimes :p

Wot? O_O

You should probably go to the doctor.

"When should a doctor be consulted?

Diarrhea is not usually harmful, but it can become dangerous or signal a more serious problem. You should see the doctor if you experience any of the following:

diarrhea for more than 3 days
severe pain in the abdomen or rectum
a fever of 102 degrees or higher
blood in your stool or black, tarry stools
signs of dehydration"

Always wash your hand before using your finger to eat
Get more vegy in your system
get some fiber pillz
try to drink pure water from bottle to see any different
go see doctor
eat fresh food

1 week of diarrea is hardly trivial, depends though on how bad it is.

I'd go to the doctor. Could be signs of something serious, or could be minor. If it keeps up you could end up in the emergency room depending on how bad it is.

He works out a lot. Believe it or not, people that exercise frequently (ie body builders) eat an enormous amount because they have to keep a very high energy level and build a surprisingly fast metabolism while working out regularly.

Lol yeah I know was just making a little joke. About four years ago my brother started to work out a lot and he ate like a f**king elephant :shok:. Was retarded how quick we would go through food lmao.

Twiggy, you post a Fatty McFatfat pic of me but wrong skin colour! :O

I'm half asian!!

The runs are trivial if you've had them for a day, maybe two. A week of diarrhea that doesn't respond to OTC meds is no longer trivial.

I know you say you haven't been eating much, but have you been eating dairy at your meals? Adult onset lactose intolerance is a possibility, especially since you don't have other symptoms like fever. If it's lactose intolerance you'll usually get foul gas and diarrhea within an hour or two of ingesting milk or other dairy; it's actually fairly distinctive (once you know what to look for) especially since your gas will smell distinctly of spoiled milk. (A kid I babysit is lactose intolerant and his parents neglected to notify me of such, I swear I used half a can of lysol to clear that stench).

Have you been on antibiotics for anything recently? Some antibiotics can disrupt the balance of natural flora in the intestine, and cause diarrhea. Pumping yourself full of probiotics may help in this case, but if it's really bad you'd need to see a doctor to get a scrip for different antibiotics (most likely metronizadole aka Flagyl) to clean out any bad flora that have taken up residence in the gut. Then once you've got a clean slate start the probiotics.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, you should see a doctor regardless to get this cleared up. Never think you can substitute internet advice for an actual doctor. ;)

I think I forgot to mention that I was going mostly in the middle of the night and early morning, and on that note, I think I'm getting better now. Last night I didn't wake up once to shit, and this morning I took a nice big healthy solid poop. So hopefully I posted this thread just too late. I thank you all for your help and concern very much, but I think I'll be fine now. And no Lec, I really did have the shits :P

When in doubt, eat fiberous foods and more of them!

I just got a fax at work about an outbreak of Shigellosis.

It is an infection of the intestines caused by bacteria. Shigella infections can be severe and spread very easily from person to person.

Symptoms
Illness usually begins 1-4 days after swallowing the bacteria and may last 4-7 days. Some people have a severe illness but others may have a mild illness or no symptoms at all. Symptoms include:

Diarrhea (may be watery or bloody)
Fever
Stomach cramps
Nausea or Vomiting
Severe cases may cause Dehydration or convulsions.

How is it spread?
Shigella bacteria are found in the stool of an infected person.
The Shigella bacteria from stool gets into the mouth and are swallowed, causeing infection.
Shigella infections spread easily from person to person when an infected person fails to wash hands well after bowel movement and/or stool contaminates food or water (for drinking or swiming), or surfaces that others use.
Infection can be caused by a microscopic amount of bacteria.
Shigella can be spread by infected people even if they don't hae symptoms, or even after their Diarrhea has stopped. Shigella can be found in stool up to 4 weeks after diarrhea has stopped.

Diagnosis and treatment

Shigella can be diagnosed by testing a stool sample.
Antibiotics are used by healthcareproviders in some cases to shorten the duration of the illness and the length of time bacteria are passed in the stool.
In milder cases, infection can clear without treatment.
Anti-diarrheal medications should not be used to treat Shigella and can make infections worse.

They even sent me a diagram explaining how to wash my hands. It shows a person truning the water off and opening a door with a paper towel.

Looks like you got lucky with a mild case. Still though, it could possibly return in the next 4 weeks. It would probably be best to go get some antibiotics. This thing is saying children shouldn't go to school untill they 24 hours after they receive a negative stool culture for Shigella.

Hmm, that sucks. I guess if it comes back I'll go to the stupid doctor. I guess I'll start washing my hands too. Although idk if that's what it is, no one else I live with has been feelin bad. Although if some people don't experience symptoms I guess maybe. But if there are no symptoms then whats the big deal? It's just an infection, those heal up with time.
