Lately I've picked fishing back up, and I've noticed something strange on the ferry.

When I fish up on the upper deck past the stairs, out of monster range, I found that my catches really really sucked.

Later on that night I was getting fed up with the horrible bites, when a friend of mine came on board. He was fishing on the lower deck, so what the heck, I went down and fished down there too...

and pulled up 7 noble ladies in a row. Now I fish on the bottom deck, and I hook like 1-2 mobs per ride now, as opposed to the 8-9 up on the top deck.

Has anyone else noticed this?

#1 Are you using same bait/rod as friend?
#2 Moon Phase consideration.

Doubt they'd 'nerf' fishing on 1/4 of the boat, SE is not that smart. Although it would be nice because it counteracts botters who stand on the upper deck. May take more /fish rounds to test out. Who knows, maybe they changed some code.

No, I'm just saying he was the reason I went down.

On the top deck about 1/3 of my casts were monsters and another 1/4 where no catches.

After I went down I went way down to like 1/16 monster and not a single no catch. I just kept pulling up noble lady after noble lady, with the occasional bluetail.

Considering they nerfed the cliffs on buburimu and forced botters into the water, it stands to reason they could've done something similar on the ferries.

This is what they call coincidence. If you performed tests for about a month fishing daily in the two different spots at the same time with different chars of the same fishing skill with the same bait/rod, that would actually be something worth noting. Fishing is all about coincidence and random hot streaks.

It may be a nerf actually. I know that in Bub Peninsula fishing in certain spots will now not land hardly any Shall Shells where as fishing in other spots will (Based on GBH roam paths). SE has been rapidly trying to nerf RMT fishing so this may be one of their recent actions.

Another thing is you may not be hooking monsters (that is unless you're fishing them up and they're actually monsters) The ferry has a plethora of fish and a lot of them are large fish that give !!! ques.

I'm not entirely sure if this is Xboxonry, but when I fish, the music changes depending on the type of catch - different for fish/seaweed/items and for monsters. IE: You know what you're pulling up: A fish/item, or a monster.

The music changes depending on whether the thing you're catching is small or large. Large doesn't always mean monster. If you get the large music and the "!!!" at the end, you can tell if it's a monster by not doing anything for a few seconds. If the fish's life bar lowers noticably on its own, that's a monster.

I don't think any large fish hook on minnow, do they? It's rumored Rygu Titan does, but aside from that, any one with !!! is a monster.

No, this was a very very serious change in catch rate. I spent roughly 3 hours on the top, which is enough to get a good solid concept of the bite rate.

After moving down I fished there for another 2 hours. My bite rate increased 8 fold. I'm not saying it is/isn't nerfed, but just asking fellow fishers to keep an eye out for the same.

Ah well, I haven't fished in yonks, and even when I did it was purely to pass time waiting for the pirates to pop =/. Back on topic though, I doubt they nerfed it. It's possible, but I doubt they would do it without telling us.

Accually on the Ferry Any Rod and a Minnow will catch a number of things Bluetail,s Noble Ladies, Cone Calamary, Monsters and Gurgru Tuna, as well as the Titan.

The Last 3 all give the !!! notice, but there is a HUGE Diffrence between pulling them in..
at least at my level of 45.4

Monster: life bar is gonna drop really fast, But Rod is gonna move pretty rapidly
Gugru Tuna: Life bar Goes down ALOT slower, fast but predictable rod movements
??? Titan(sp): Life bar goes down alot Slower and Spazticly fast rod movements, Impossble to reel in atm for me

I fish the ferry all the time to kinda relax, and even tried the Silver sea Route a few ttimes. But like it was mentioned earlier Moon Phase REALLY is important with fishin. but i wont get into that atm

Yeah like Claud said, Gugru tuna are large fish and you'll get a lot of them with a minnow on the boat.

Yeah you usually know when you get a titan lol...could barely get a sliver off of its life. o.O

Also I think there's another kind of super fish like that you can snag too (can't remember the name atm, zombie something maybe?) if the pirates are attacking at the time.

Also I think there's another kind of super fish...

That's the Sea Zombie. It supposedly caps at level 101, but I don't know. It doesn't seem that hard to pull up, it's easier than Ryugu Titan anyway. If you take a Sea Zombie to Zaldon in Selbina, he can gut it open for you, and there's a 25% chance that there will be a rare/ex bait called a Drill Calamary inside of it. You use Drill Calamary's to fish up the legendary Gugrusaurus who caps at level 120+ off the ferry. And if you gut open one of those, there's a disgustingly horrible chance that there will be a Saber Shoot inside, which is one of the two super rare items needed to create an Ebisu Rod.

Those Gugrusaurus's bite onto Meatballs too sometimes, and man when they do you totally can tell. My skill isn't high enough to even think about those guys yet. When they bite on, they are really strong and fierce, and they get away after a very short time. You need those fishing rings to even attempt those. Same with Lik's.

I've never hooked a gugra with my minnow, Every !!! so far was either the spasmadic one, or monster.

I do know gugra hooks the sinking minnow very well...

I skilled up cooking several levels by fishing gugru on the boat with a minnow. They bite minnow quite a bit actually... If I recall correctly I'd usually get 8-14 per trip. They're a little spastic themselves and if you're getting "spasmadic" ones more than a couple times per trip with a minnow it's probably not titans you're hooking, it's gugru.

Lol, no not more than one per trip. Like 1 every hour or two XD.

On another note, did you know it's impossible to get the "too small" catch with carps?

I've caught like 70 carps in a row using a composite rod, and only 1/4 gold carps are too small. Interesting how a moat carp will do just fine one a composite rod, yet a 12 foot long silver shark is often too small for it XD

Honestly i havent gotten 1 Too small to catch message since a Dear freind of mine gave me her Lu shangs Fishing Rod

lol I don't know, I bought a Lu when my fishing was still like level 12, and before that I think I used a Halycon.

I guess it's kind of like how a bed will take the same amount of room as a subligar in your gobbie bag I guess. :D

<3 ;)

*sighs* man don't mention to me the awesomeness of lu's... 4.5K/10K >.O

Still a lonnngggg way to go for me, and I gotta hurry up cause I'm getting into the low 50s now, which is where it slowly becomes mandatory... =/

Not a fisher myself, but if you sell the moat carps on the AH you can buy a Lu Shangs rod long before you hit 10,000, although i realise this means waiting for the fish to sell, which is always an inconvienence.
