Alright, I'm torn in this decision as I'm strapped for cash lately with all the stupid gear I need to buy BUT I'd rather give this back since I know I'd want someone to do the same for me.

I log onto a mule this morning and see I got 500k from a person for an item that is only going for 500 gil. I was AMAZED this happened and not sure why though.

So, I was thinking maybe this person is quitting and this is how they're getting rid of their money. That's what I'd like to hear as that'd make me one lucky taru. However, I'm thinking that's very unlikely and it was probably a mistake.

Unfortunately, I'm at work right now so I can't remember the name of the person exactly. I'll update it when I get home. So if you're the person who overpaid for the item, we can arrange a time and I'll give you back your money minus the 500 gil the item was worth.

I guess without a name, this would be kind of hard to spread the word, but I'll edit it when I get home.

I know I could just send it back, but I wanted to make sure it's a mistake or it could be someone unloading the money. (I know Porum did this when he left to benefit random people as he was the beneficiary of random generousity too).

*sigh* I spelt Someone wrong.

5,000 instead of 500 I can understand. Maybe even 50,000 with lag. But 500,000? I'd be wondering about that, too.

yeah, well, being that i once paid 1,400,000 for a dark staff that was worth 200,000 at the time, i vote to try to at least give half back.

i was bidding repeatedly on pluto's and the ah lagged and somehow i bid on the dark staff. it went to MNBVC (gilseller) who sent me a tell 2 hours later that said {thank you}... i was like. umm {help me out!} and he goes.. "sorry sky boss no say i can help"... /sigh

so yeah. its the nice thing to do.

Yeah I had someone pay me 100,000 instead of 10,000 once. I went to the AH and found there name, sent them a tell and they actually just told me to keep it.

You just have a choice of being extremly nice or being, well, "normal". I could understand either decision you make.

The only time I had it happen to me was someone paying 40000 for a stack of crystals instead of 4000. Seeing as crystals sell so fast I was never able to find out who did it and they never contacted me or I would've given it back.

My mistake Palum. I'll split the difference with you to be fair.

I paid 80k for a stack of 40k tacos one time.. I just dont think i was paying attention.. I pay very close attention when im using the Auction house now.

Also, I know about random generosity..

I was standing in lower jeuno one day near the mog house entrance shouting for a teleport.. then this jp taru walks up to me and trades with me.

I figured she was accepting my teleport request, so i went to trade with him/her and she gave me a dark staff, a ruby, and some other random item worth like 10k or so.

I was surprised.. i wasnt sure what this was for lol.. i accepted it.. then i started sending her /tells

I eventually gathered that she was quitting.. those items must have just been some random things she hadnt given away yet.

so I made like 150k for just being in the right place at the right time..
Felt kinda bad she was quitting though :/

Weird, I had the same thing happen to me and was wondering what to do.

I did check the AH list and the same person overbid on some other items in the same category. Since I am at school right now, I cannot remember the name... Started with a D I believe. Dan... something..

Maybe the person is quitting the game or has a jealous friend/partner who decided to spend all the money off.

Hey, I think the name is Dan-something..... hmm...interesting. Well, like I said, I'm going to probably send him a message through POL to ask him about it.

Sorry Alanon.... for some reason I don't think it's you...but I probably do owe you that much in sweat labour...

I overpaid for a martial axe not too long ago - total accident and I'm blaming the game but whatever. Ended up paying 550k, honestly I would have been happy with receiving 400k back after paying 530k over the item. I even sent the martial axe back to the character. I'd been looking for the character Onep (the person I bought it from) - but after the martial axe disappeared from my DB and I didn't receive any gil in return I figured this person would never give me my money back anyhow.

Try to return it, it will happen to you someday.

So... someone didn't give you your money back, so you sent them the axe you paid way too much for? Your logic doesn't add up.

I wasn't trying to buy that axe - I didn't see them online so I sent them the axe in the hope that they would see it and possibly send some of the money back (I believe it to be a mule char so I didn't think I would catch them online often at all) - banking on guilt I suppose. Plus I already lost 530k, another 20k doesn't hurt.

I paid all my money at the time for what I thought was flare (I paid about 300k~), and to my absolute, utter horror, "You buy the Scroll Of Freeze for two hundred and eighty something thousand gil."

And kukul never gave me my money back... I see him online a hell of alot, and he's never replied, even when I use the Auto-translate. I spose I just had to give up, I'm not gonna try to attempt to converse with a pig-ignorant JP about possibly getting a fair amount of 'fake' money back, life's too short.

I mistakenly put an Emp. hairpin for the price I would put a stack of Kaginawa, AH was laggy and I was in a hurry, no more than 15 min later I got like 102k on my delivery box and couldn't find my pin, lmao, I checked the price history, did /search on the person and told him I'd give him double the money he paid if he returned the item, he said he was japanese, I pulled out the JP client and asked him to wait for me while a friend from my LS(who knows very good japanese) was translating what I wanted to say, byt the time he was done the other guy was gone, I just let it go, I realized the guy actually needed the pin, if not he wouldn't have given all his money, it was like 102,897 gil, I just hope he puts it to good use and that it made him happy :p.

It's very good you want to give the money back Palum, I wish more people were like you; hope you find this person.

True story - I once had a mysterious 6,000,000, yes, 6 million gil show up in my del box from someone named...somthing like, Ahty, sounded like a gil seller mule name, so i kept it. I just figured one of the other Excalibur dopplegangers bought gil and the idiot seller sent it to the wrong person...like there's any way in hell I'd give that money back. Anyways, it was a nice little present to get 6 mil for checking my del box at the right time before the seller realized he was stupid and sent it to the wrong person.

Floating on the same boat, I was leaving Boyahda Tree after doing some duo skillups with my static RDM. Normally when we duo, I go /WHM to alleviate some healing duties. Also normally, when going /WHM, I go anon since my sub is underlevelled.

For some reason I didn't anon that day, god bless my retardedness. 68WAR/28WHM, I get a /tell:

Flick>> (Excuse me...)
>>Flick (Hello!)
Flick>> Have you bought your Hauberk yet?

Thinking he had just crafted one shooting for a +1, maybe he was gonna give me a sweet deal:

>>Flick no...?
Flick>> Well, I'm quitting so... check your mailbox
>>Flick o_o

They were only 2.6m at the time, but for a guy who's amazed to have 200k in the bank, it was like I struck oil. I dunno if he reads this forum, but Flick... thanks dude. I really appreciate it. Motley, my static co-tank, signed a Hauberk for me from the Haubergeon I had, but the money from yours went to a toy I likely will never sell.

Don't get me started.

Paid 11mil for a Holy Phial instead of a PCC and didn't get any money back even after contacting the person and telling him what happened. Karahan = not nice ; ;

Sounds like someone is either leaving the game and wanting to spread their money around in a lot of moderate blocks... Or someone got their account hacked and someone is trying to bone them over in relatively un-recoverable fashion.

I suppose we'll find out which in a few days...
