Director John Hughs Dies...

Yea I heard this a couple hours ago :( Very sad.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off & The Breakfast Club, two of my favourites.

Home alone, Flubber, and the Beethoven series. What a shame.

National Lampoons... WEIRD SCIENCE I mean.. he leaves quite the repertoire behind him.

Weird Science was always one of my favorites growing up, along with The Breakfast Club.

Awww sadness :(

Same. One of my earliest memories was seeing Weird Science in theaters, and remembering the bedroom-bathroom door exploding scene when Lisa walked out after being created.

Also, Uncle Buck. Love John Candy, and John Hughes used the man to great effect.

RIP John Hughes.

Sad, sad, sad... :verysad:

The Breakfast Club is one of my all time favorite movies, though I love a lot of stuff he did. ;;;;;

"What would you little maniacs like to do first?"

Also notable for what I consider Bill Paxton's defining role. It doesn't matter what else I see him in - no matter how good or how serious some of the films are - he'll always be Chet in my eyes.

The Breakfast Club is Hughes' true masterpiece though. I never got his Molly Ringwald obsession, but that movie still holds up and the Simple Minds track at the end remains a favorite to this day.

There's a rather nice tribute to him here.

haha, oh yeah. Anytime I watch Aliens I can see a grown-up Chet right there in Pvt. Hudson.

What's a shame is that the very band that made the song wanted to divest itself of that tune because they felt it "didn't represent them correctly" or something. That's why their only other remotely successful song was "Alive and Kicking". I think Simple Minds has gotten over that attitude in recent years though.

One of the funnier moments in what I already considered an awesome game - Saints Row 2 - was when I was driving through the town one day and my character started singing along with "Don't You Forget About Me" when it came on the radio. It's something I've done myself...and just as poorly.

This gave me chills.

What a remarkable thing to do. I do mean that, I would be hard pressed to expect a celebrity of any status to take that kind of time.

Sucks. He was awesome. Loved all his films.

I went to school with his sons. One (John) was in my class and was into film and music. The other one (James) was a few years younger. He was in a band called Shat, which is the past tense for shit, and coincidentally their band sounded about as good as an old piece of shit appeals to you when it's on your tongue. It was more than a little easy for my band to rip them a new hole. Daddy had the talent. True story.

Thanks for the tribute Neyla--it made me tear up. I was too young in the 80's by a few years to really appreciate Hughes' "classic" works, but Home Alone was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I have a lot of fond memories of my family watching it on Thanksgiving night.

He sounded like a really good and decent man :( Too few of them in Hollywood these days, and in life. RIP John.
