So, anyone else been playing this game as much as I have? Just got up to Chapter 5, the Battle Arena, and I've been loving every minute of it. The new Dark Court system is somewhat interesting, I have yet to see the bonuses of it though. The new ways the Dark Senate work are welcome changes, and the new storyline is alright, not as comical as the original though.

The game also makes a FFXI reference it seems. The Ninja class has a skill called "Utsusemi" with the description "Every worthy ninja needs to know this skill." There's also a Clerks reference with a weapon titled Berserker described "It's love for you is like a truck."

Anyway, whoever loved the original or just SRPG's in general needs to play this, I must have put in somewhere around 700+ hours into the original game, and I still could go back and play it if I wanted.

Also, Penny Arcade loves the Prinny's, DOOD!

I have actually been off of FF for ~3days now because of work and this game. I like the new court system to a point. No more promotion exams, so i got all the shop inventory additions right away, which i really like. Also like how there are legendary senators now. I became a senator because i bribed the crap out of a lengedary one, and he then punched the four level 500 senators opposing me off the map.

The only real complaint i have is that i would have liked a more laharal-ish type main character, and not one thats soo "omg must keep promises". And they made it waaay too easy to level up the cleric type. My people on average are about level 15, but my cleric is lvl 20 just from healing/shield/espoir/ ocassional arrow shot.

But it was very much worth the $49 i paid for it.

My PS2 is packed since I'm moving RL next weekend, but this is one of the first things I plan to pick up after my move, and you can bet I'm gonna play the crap outta this bad boy. The first one was so awesome!

I'm at Chapter Five also, and even though Utsusemi is cool(and not very much like in the game) it's not a good attack. It's basically just a bunshin trick...

I would be playing this, but I lent my ps2 to a friend after his died until he can buy a new one. The lucky bastard is actually playing it right now, but I've seen chapters 2-4(watched him play and helped) and I can't wait to play it myself.

According to my friend, the ninja classes he had unlocked so far were Genin and Chunin; which is a Naruto reference. The utsusemi is just a kawarimi though, not like the shadows that are in XI.

I'm actully the one who introduced the first Disgaea to all my friends that're playing in my area now. I'm also the only one with a copy of the game. I'm also the only one that hasn't beaten it. I ended up getting it in the same Christmas that I got about a dozen other things I wanted to play as well so I just never got around to it. But now that I've got my copy back I guess I'll finally sit down and play through it. I want the sequel and that insane strategy guide for it very very soon ^^.

Edit:
Forgot I had a game started on teh memory card. Only on chapter 2 though. I don't even have Flonne yet v.v.

Oh yeah, I also can't wait for the Disgaea anime to come out, I had never even heard about that before I saw my friend playing Disgaea 2.

Friend of mine was telling me about it. Does it have a release date yet?

No clue, it was apparently supposed to be out this spring in Japan; not sure if/when it was coming to America.

it's not too bad, you can get fansubs in places (or so my friend tells me, I've not seen it myself, he has).

All the episodes are also on Youtube to watch if you want, it's an alright anime, but they changed the storyline completely, it has its funny moments, but can't really compare to the original games storyline.

Well since I'm playing the game again I figure this might be a decent place to ask this.

I've recently picked up my copy of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness again to finally beat it so I can play Disgaea 2. But I'm having a bit of trouble.

I've just now gotten Flonne (who I think is adorable) and started Episode 3 but I'm having trouble leveling my Cleric and Rogue. What's the best way to do this? Stick them both with ranged weapons and just plug away? Everyone else in my party are around level 13-15 but they're trailing behind at about 7-8 each. Most of the guides I've check say just to tough it out til Episode 5-3 when I can really start hardcore leveling, but if my cleric keeps getting one shotted before she can heal effectively...

Also, are the NPCs (Edit: Guess they wouldn't be NPCs if I could use them. I mean the other "story" characters.) really worth using? Most of the time when I see my friends play they never use Etna, Flonne, ect. Are they just crappy later on? Or are some of my friends just taking the easy way of things by using Laharl and 5-6 Divine Majinns?

Cleric's are a bitch XD you're better off leveling a mage and then turning them into clerics :P that way they can do a decent amount of damage and heal. Pretty nice actually, hehe. But I guess at your point it's a bit too hard to do.. hmm.. I guess you could pair them next to a stronger member and hope for a combo kill cause that'll give them all exp in the combo. Etna is actually pretty decent, can do nice damage, can be a good tank too (not as good as those golems that are on Cave of Ordeal stage 3 :P they just can hardly move) and Gordon can be uber damage. He's actually one of the higher damage dealers in my group, get his HIT up high (item world ftw for getting those guys that add to certain attributes) and he'll do uber damage and from a distance so it's nice if you need to kill a boss and you're other guys are dead, run away far enough, shoot from a far, kinda like kiting in turn based game XD (I did that with Mid Boss one fight with Laharl being my last guy and using wind slash or whatever it was). And they aren't NPCs since you can use them :P and ya, Divine Majinns seem to be the way to go in the end (though my Bill Sentinel tank takes little to no damage :D).

Both those classes suck to level, but here's some tips I could think of.

For the Rogue, give him a sword, screw the fact that he has higher ranking in guns, a sword will be useful in endgame when you get to Cave of Ordeals and can beat a stage in 10-12 seconds with one Winged Slayer attack. Also, try to get some arm masters early on. Every level in weapon mastery increases your weapons equip modifier by 5%, arms masters make it much faster to level.

Think of it like this, if you got a sword with 100 ATK, someone with 0 mastery will just get 100+ ATK increase, while someone with level 10 mastery will get 150+ increase. Later on in endgame those percentages really add up to some high numbers, best to get started now.

There's a level where the entire field is covered in invincible geo panels, for every swing you take you gain mastery points, no matter if it does no damage. Same with leveling any skill or spell, so use that map to PL those skills.

Any Item Specialists that increase the main 8 stats you have subdued should be put into your weapons, to get the maximum bonus possible from them.

When it comes to the cleric, best thing I can say is just bring her out whenever there's an XP bonus on a map, and give her Sentrie's in her weapon. After you can manage to get her some Mana, give her a mage apprentice and teach her some offensive spells, much easier to level than give her a weapon.

Later on your NPC characters don't stink, but the Divine Majin just has the highest stats and highest weapon rank/apitude in the game. It's so much easier to PL a Divine Majin then the other character classes, including Laharl. I just used 1 though, having a whole army of them kinda ruins the fun, but yeah, they're meant to be the best characters in the game.

EDIT: Actually, I will recommend an Axe for Gordon, and here's why. When you do special attacks, the game modifies the damage from your base attack by a percentage to give you the final total. All character have 300% at their highest, meaning Laharls Ultimate skill, Etna's, etc. Gordon final personal skill though, has a amazing 500% modifier, meaning it has the potential to do sick damage. Problem is it's based of his ATK stat, not his HIT stat. He has an A in Axes I believe, so he can train in it easily. People give Gordon a gun because it's his default style, but I say give him an Axe. Through some reincarnations and weapon mastery levels, you'll see how much damage he can really deal endgame, he's a great combo starter.
