This game was a rather large dissapointment. I thought I would want to get sweet armor and stuff after I had beaten the storyline but I completely lost interest... and the storyline is so damn easy. I just feel a bit robbed kinda seemed crappier than most FF's. Maybe Im just getting older Iunno.

I agree with you, although a good time killer
this was a rather large let down. I got to the point
where I was just fed up with hunting marks and doing the pointless
and useless side quests and just beat it to be done.
Perhaps we are both getting old or maybey we just remember back
in the day when there was more emphasis on plot
than on spiffy graphics.

PSP.... ewwwwwwwwww
just go out to your backyard,
find a big rock, paint it metalic black and write PSP on it.
taa~da you have yourself a PSP. Seriously, those things are useless
its just another way for Sony to suck the money out of you.
My advice, buy a PS2 there are tons and tons of games for it
that will keep you busy for months, as far as if FFXII is a worthy
reason to buy a PS2 well.... umm.. rent it and buy tons of awsome
games for the PS2

If you're picking between the 2, buy a PS2 and get it chiped for a 100$. Then buy burnt games for 10$ each because if you really want to experience the PS2 you got at least 30 good games to go.

But PSP is no longer worthless, Metal Gear Solid: Ops just came out the other day and its amazing.

Well the thing is, I've been a Tekken and FF fan for both the same amount of time, the newest Tekken is on PSP, FFXII is on PS2.

I didnt think so much about let down. The combat system was pretty engaging (reminded me of ffxi, lol) but what I really enjoyed was the feel of the world. It was Ivalice for anyone whos played the original ff tactics. What sold it for me was the music. I can handle most of the side quests because it feels very "Arc The Lad" although you can argue that the latter mentioned did that system much better. The thing about combat systems like that is you can pretty much engage in many battles without getting too bored unlike a lot of other rpg's. You are right though, the story wasnt all that impressive but I did enjoy the presentation and even the characters. Although Vaan was the most dissapointing character, I liked Balthier a lot.

Is this worth buying a PS2 for? Or should I stick to getting a PSP?

PS2 is worth buying just so you dont get a PSP...

Plus ps2 has a lot of other good games too

Edit: And FFXII is still worth the buy. I took 70 hrs by the time I beat the last boss..and I havent even done most of the extra stuff >.>

. . . . .

Are you really that stupid?

As far as eye candy goes it's amazing, but yeah, I had a deep, empty, cheated feeling after the end of each cut scene, too. I so wanted to be Reks throughout the whole game;; God, I hate Vaan and all he represents in FFXII -_-.

I delt with vaan by consoling myself that Balthier was the real main character.
I liked the idea that you wern't really the star of the game. You're just along for the ride. The game wasn't about your character.

I don't know about you guys but..

I have no fucking clue what the story is about..besides that im trying to get the kingdom back and stuff..

i think this is one of the most confusing storylines for me! Or i need to pay attention!

Yeah, but the story is told from Vaan's point of view. He's never not there. Its irrelevant for most of the game, but especialy around the begining, its easy to see.
Every FF games always sets a character whom you play from the point of view of. Its usualy the main character also, but in XII it isnt.

^ why do you do this? It might've been funny like.. over the summer when your derail would've gotten the thread removed but now it's just stupid.

That's pretty much the gist of it - the details surrounding the plot are just explaining how Ashe is going about doing it. Personally I've been looking at the game as Ashe is the main character even though Vaan's always in the cutscenes, he's really just backup for Ashe to complete her quest to either destroy the nethocite thus removing the threat of someone abusing that power OR taking up the nethocite (as it's her birthrite) and using it for revenge (as the ghost of her former husband wants her to do).

No man, that's how much they go for in Ontario.

You really give every response rudely?

I kinda love/hate this game...I really dig the battle system but the constant being broke/leveling and bosses are like putting glass in your genitles.

Exacly. There wasn't a smooth leveling sequence thing going on when you proceded through the story line. We had to go back and do a bunch of hunts, farm for a few hours and such, and then we had to head back. It gets you lost in the story.

you so need to see that list of PSP games I put on that one thread in the other RPG forum section XD there's far more than that which is fun on a PSP :P

anyways.. I agree.. the game was sadly a disappointment story-wise, character-wise. Gameplay was fun, no doubt.. but.. I dunno.. I really hope FFXIII and such will feel more fullfilling story-wise and whatnot, hehe.
