Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

I see what you mean. I dunno.. FF8 was ok (not my favorite but as a game it wasn't bad :P) FF9 was fun, I loved it. FF10 was even better and, I'd say, on par with FF7 in terms of story, characters, and world as well as development of all 3. The ONLY downside was the linear movement. That blew :| I liked free roaming like we used to have. But it wasn't a game killer. Sphere grid was a wonderful new spin on things. It was fun :P great music too. FFXII was just crap :\ characters were either pointless or just retarded.. really coulda been done with just the princess lady being the only character, she was pretty much the only important one. Sometimes Belthiar but not as much as Ashe. The gameplay was pretty fun but.. I dunno.. I think with the time they had been working on it, it coulda been better. The music blew.. period. The story was HORRIBLY lacking, I wouldn't be at 100 hours if I didn't screw around so much :P the story was short, it could've had so much more to it I think.. and some things felt horribly randomly rushed or just.. ya.. oh well.

I, too, am not gonna put too much hope into the upcoming FF games. They really have far too much on their plate I think.

See, I enjoyed 8, 9, 10. 9 being really fun but not near the on par with the previous stories, 8 was just cool but nothing special, and 10... I don't know why I like it. It's boring, the story is bleh, I guess it must be some of the boss fights. Some of them are really great encounters. I've played every FF game to come to our shores, even the Game Boy games and the offsprings on the SNES, and up to 7 they are amazing. At 8 they started loosing their flavor and 10 just killed it for me despite the small bit of pleasure I still recieved from it. X-2 is just a joke that shares a punch line with XII.

X-2 had a fun battle system.. same with XIII. But X-2 had at least a cool boss too. I loved the last boss and the battle music for it. Plus the optional stuff.

Ele has traveled to the future >.>

shhhhhhhh.. that's a secret D:

I meant FFXII obviously :P

Well SE isn't the company it used to be where it could work on a few titles at a time. They are definately a growing and can run multiple projects and games set up with different developers they have in pocket. I think we'll see in the coming years if these multiple projects yeild alot of positive results or most fall through.
And I wouldnt really worry about this Dissidia game, i've read it's going to be like a Smash Bros/Jump Superstars game (not sure if it's fighting though) that is a mishmash of all the Final Fantasy titles and other Square properties.

Hmm..I checked out the Dissidia info from wiki.
This kinda sounds like what Namco is planning to do with their new Tales game.

Its basically gonna be all the good guys of the game coming together to fight all the evil bad guys of prior games.

Kinda like the old show, Super Friends, and the updated one, Justice League.

I dunno how this is going to turn out though.
I could see a lot of the protagonists working together, but a lot of the antagonists clash with personalities.

For example:
Sephiroth likes to take care of things on his own. He is down right wicked, and a loner I might add.

Kefka will kill anything, everything, and heck even his own men just to get the win. The man is a psychotic lunatic.

Kuja, didn't he repent at the end? I wouldn't say he is a bad guy anymore.

The emperor (ff2), I'd say he would be the passive/aggressive type.
Maybe the emperor, Kefka, and Kuja might try on each other's make up. :-D

Chaos/Garland, well.. they will probably give him a dark and profound personality. Thats a given. Although I wouldn't mind seeing him and the 4 fiends become poker playing alcoholics. :-D (j/k)

I can't say much for the final boss on FF3J/(DS version); I still need to
beat it.

Ultimecia, hmm...she never really had much of a personality.
She was just.. "there." Drifting through time. She had a body though.
Maybe Zeromus/Zemus will trance Golbez to have a Monica/Clinton scandal with her??? :-D

Zemus/Zeromus along with Golbez were pretty good antagonists.
Ex-Death was a typical evil wizardly villain too. I can see them making an impact in the League of Extordinary Evil People. (O.O)

Ahh...good ol' Seymor. I might have spelled his name incorrectly.
From a charming individual to a twisted minded villain; he would make a great addition. I'd say he works well with others.

Shu'yin..meh; he will always be known as a cry-baby.
I dunno about him being part of this "EBIL" league.

I know that all of these examples sound silly, no doubt, but honestly if Square-Enix intends to make a game series on it, or an anime; they better draw out a really good plot, or tons of people will be VERY disappointed.

This is all granted if it takes an RPG or Anime-like path.
If it takes a fighting game path; then they can easily get away with it because in fighting games plot is usually simple.

Kinda like how they did with Eirgeihz (or however its spelled).
The game didn't have much of a back bone.
The only reason people rented/bought it was because Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth were in the game. At least I think no one really cared about the other characters.

But I guess we'll have to see.
SE is bound to surprise us one way or another. :-)

Exactly, I don't even know who the hell else was in that game...

Square Enix rocked the world the other day as it confirmed PlayStation Portable (PSP) video game title Final Fantasy: Dissidia. Nothing is known about this game aside from the fact that it has an official website carrying the message, "Fantasy is endless. Fantasy has no limited form."

After getting the first details from Jump Magazine, we could say that the quote mentioned above does make sense. Accordingly, Dissidia will be bringing together characters from the past Final Fantasy titles. And when we say past, we don't just mean FF X or FF XI. We mean way back to Final Fantasy I.

For example, the Warrior of Light will be making an appearance and can be seen side by side with Final Fantasy IX's Zidane Tribal. Jump Magazine also revealed that FF IX villain Kuja will be making an appearance - how influential his character to the story is still unknown though.

We also learned that FF Dissidia is going to be a progressive action game although Square Enix is still not explaining how this goes. All it said was "there will be close-range combat on a 3D battle field that will involve a lot of jumping and special skills.

so pretty much Super Smash Bros meets Final Fantasy

Super Smash Bros doesnt have a story thing going though does it? >.>

no, <,< i meant the whole fighting system, it will be like smash bros style where its all real time ect
