I'm also playing catch-up.
Just a few things I want to interject:
1) Man didn't suddenly "spring up" 6000 years ago. Cave paintings in Chavet-Pont-d'Arc have been dated to approximately 31,000 years ago. They're not stick figure scribbles either, but true works of art.
2) Evolution has been witnessed first-hand. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a prime example of that. We may not be able to see first-hand the evolution of creatures that create one generation every 20-30 years, but we can sure see it in a species that has a new generation every 15 minutes. If evolution didn't exist there would be no bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
3) True scientific inquiry requires that using the same experiment will yield the same results, every time. Science is the process by which we reveal the true nature of the universe, and consequently, the true nature of God.

Albert Einstein says it better than I ever could."I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modelled after our own - a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. It is enough for me to contemplate the mystery of conscious life perpetuating itself through all eternity, to reflect upon the marvelous structure of the universe which we can dimly perceive and to try humbly to comprehend even an infinitesimal part of the intelligence manifested in Nature."
