As many of you may or may not know, recently I have pushed full force into fishing. I decided with me approaching 70 fishing it would be time to get that best fishing gear in the game.

Fisherman's Apron.

I always figured fishing guild points would be easy, and for the most part it is. There is a lot of fishing for small amounts of GP, but occasionally, that large GP fish comes along.

Today's fish is Zebra Eel to which I've spent 3 hours trying to catch in the Den of Rancor. All of my efforts have turned up a few stacks of Pamtam Kelp and other non-sense(h8 the non vulgarity rule). I'll let your imagination come up with a string of about 19 curse words said in 2 seconds. I have read up in forums that these have a bad bite rate, but not so terrible you'd practically murder someone(of course exxagerration, but blah).

Moral of the story: If you are a fisherman, do not underestimate the value of high quantities of lesser GP fish. Ignore the large number GP fish cause they totally blow. (<-- vulgar? '?.?)

WTB: Zebra Eel 100k for 6!

I dn't watch enough T.V to know lol.

Anyways, just as an update.

Karma - that horrid wretch that she is, decided she would taunt me.
Zebra Eel = small fish. So, a small fishing rod is best to catch them with. I figured Halcyon is awesome, it is composite and for small fish. (Yes, I have Lu)

Immediately after this post, I catch one, only for it to break. Yes, I'm sure it was Zebra Eel - if you are fisherman, you know what is on your line.

I h8 irony too XD

And I just died, for the 3rd time today, HP'd for the 2nd time. I quit. Won't ever do this Gp again

I love catching these things. I remember doing them for GPs and catcing a little extra and selling for like 15-20k each on the AH :P
Where in Den of Rancor are you fishing these and what bait are you using?

Yhoat entrance. Tried Shirmp Lure. Tried Sliced Sardine.

Fish them for me and be paid very handsomely... see AH thread

Whenever those come up on guild point days, I consider it a nice vacation.

I consider it lost opportunity. Items no thanks. Fisherman's Apron yes please

Yeah, that apron is pretty sweet. I wouldn't want to try fishing in Port Jeuno without it. Plus it lets everyone know what a big ol' fishing whore you are. Heh.

True 'dat. I haven't fished in an awfully long time; I'm going to do it tonight, methinks.

As for the zebra eel, it's very easy to find, if you know what you're looking for. Don't use anything but a shrimp lure as far as bait is concerned; I know it says sinking minnow will work, but I've never successfully caught one with anything other than a shrimp lure. I've never tried sliced sardine, however; if you don't want to risk losing your lure (and there's a good chance that you will), you might try that.

Just keep sneak up, and dash out of the way of the scorpions surrounding the main pool when you get your FIRST warning, and you're fine. The little glowy lizards there play nicely, despite their intimidating name.

It shouldn't take you any longer than 20 minutes to get all six, and no longer than three minutes to find your first one. If you're having trouble still, you may be fishing in an area that doesn't have them. There are many zones in the game that only have certain fish in a single body of water within the zone, regardless of what the best fishing databases say.

Follow the following directions, and you'll arrive at a pool that I can guarantee has zebra eel in it:

1) Zone in from the Yhoator entrance.

2) Drop down the first hole you come across. I'm not sure what direction it's in, but I do know that most ways are blocked off. It'll be the first you can find, trust me.

3) Head Northwest. You may run into a few dead ends, but keep a general bearing of Northwest, and you will get there.

You'll know you're in the right area when you see a group of four or five scorpions clustered together around a daintly little pool, preceded by a tunnel with the lizards. Keep Sneak and Invisible up through the main part of the Den, but once you get to the water, Sneak alone will suffice. Dash back to the lizards when it starts to drop.

Let us know if you have better luck, bearing all of that in mind. ^_^
