Well I installed the game on my laptop... Big mistake because I then realized that an integrated intel series 4 chipset would be the best way to go around, in terms of a graphics card(sarcasm). Needless to say I got an error message before the character creation page.

I then figured I would have to upgrade my desktop, and just use my laptop for other things instead.

Gutting my desktop I found that if I want to play ffxiv I will need the following things

Motherboard/cpu combo
Graphics card
Memory
(probably an upgraded powersupply because my supply is 450 watts)

Now temporarily till I get a new laptop (which is the eventual plan) I just want to play at low settings and honestly spend the minimal amount necessary to play the game. Do you think the following will run the game decently enough where I will not have a 3 second lag time when walking? Tauro and Taku your input would be most appreciated.

E8500 CPU Approx 3.16 GHZ w/ motherboard combo
Geforce 9600 GT

I would suggest getting a processor with a quad core with that speed. I bought a new desktop (I need a new one anyways) and added stuff to it make sure it ran above anything I've used before, but within a good price range. I ended getting a barebone kit from Tigerdirect.com and got more stuff as I went.

My specs are as follows and FFXIV runs great at default settings with a few other raised tweeks:

do you think that the Graphics card will be good enough to at least run lowest settings in the mean time while I save for my laptop? I think I am getting a good deal on it... friend just told me he'd sell me the entire computer for 350.

3.16 GHZ processor
4gb ddr3 ram
Nvidia geforce 9600 GT
300 raptor HDD
700 Watt Powersupply
Case and junk.

Operating System: Windows XP/Vista/7.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2GHz.
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 512MB or ATI Radeon HD 2900 512MB and DirectX 9.
Memory: 2GB of RAM.
Disk Space: 15GB

That's the minimum requirements Jyak. You would be making bare minimum graphics with your 9600gt. Considering this game is like a game of BDSM for almost any system out there, I'd try to get a better graphic card. You can probably get a GF GTS 250 for 40-50$ more and be able to enjoy the game. For the rest, I'm pretty sure you'll be alright.

Also, I don't think you would need a 700W PSU to power up that PC unless you have 12 bazillion drives and 8 graphic cards. I'd say, 550-600W would be more than you would bargain for depending on the brand and the quality of the PSU. I also ran a quick power supply calculator test for a PC using your specs and it gave out almost 300W. At 600W you would have enough power to run 2 GTS 250 in SLI.

So depending if you want to keep upgrade or not in mind I'd go for a 450W minimally and go up if you think you will add more stuff in the upcoming months. Just my 2 cents :p. If you need more infos, I'll be pleased to help you out :).

hey all mini update.

For those that want to know, I can run FFXIV pretty damn well on my computer at the moment. It has the specs listed at the beginning...

Finally installed the OS(win7 ultimate) and the game, it was running at high settings(didn't have a chance to check the settings all the way) and it was running fine... with several people around me.

Somehow I didn't see this thread until today...I need to lerk moar on Eosun. I'm glad to hear its running for you Jyak on that particular setup.
