Sorry but as diverse as
FFXI is, there is only so much
gear to wear. Everyone wears
the same gear. NA seems to be only ones
so extremely judgemental
like this.

It's so demeaning to check someone
like you just have to see what they're
'wearing'. Please. Curious? try again.

Just about the dumbest thing I think I've heard on this message board.. and I've heard some dumb stuff. 1) You can only tell what the person is wearing on their body, head, legs, hands and feet. That leaves the back, waist, earrings, rings, ranged, throwing, neck and possibly now a grip to be determined. Sorry, but gear is NOT all the same despite outward appearances. 2) Being curious can in fact lead someone to gearing themselves in a stronger fashion for the reasons stated in #1 or if not stronger, differently for a different kind of gear setup (haste vs. dmg for instance). 3) There's a difference between being curious and being judgmental. The way this clown reacted when multiple people checked his gear is being judgmental, assuming they were laughing at him or some nonsense. The people doing the checking could be looking to see what was in his bazaar (curious) or wanted to see the other armor they couldn't determine just by outward appearances. As a wise man once said.. "Don't judge a book by its cover." That totally applies here. Nice try though.

Yea, the craziest thing about Raizon is she'll have a bazaar up and still go apeshit on anyone that examines her. Even if it's just to check that bazaar.

/grin at them before checking. This is my process for checking japanese that come up on these boards since Meta went on his diatribe about stupid NA's:
/no after they gear switch to kick you out of the /check, then /check again.
Repeat a few times, then do a /hurray as walking away.

I call bullshit here, sorry.

I was referring to Tagrineth saying that she puts up a Bazaar and takes offence when people /check her with it up.

Meh, I just type /c <theirname>, that way they can't gear-swap to kick you out of the /c :p

I find that kinda unbelievable. But like I said earlier, the first time she /checked me she asked my permission before she did. It seems to be customary to do so for some Japanese players, and I can only assume it's reasoning is to do with general politeness and manners.

I think that we ("we" as non-Japanese) need to accept that other cultures (i.e. a group of the Japanese, in this case) find certain things inpolite- even if they do seem unreasonable to us, which is often the case.

You can't accept EVERY culture on a game where everyone looks alike. That's just fucking moronic.

What's moronic is refusing to accept that in some cultures it's considered rude to do certain things, and that we may not grasp the concept or understand why.

My only experience with Raizondetre is her insisting on BRD/RDM in a merit party and using madrigal. Needless to say, she died a couple of times.

That's amazing though, that she was spamming over 20 minutes later.

LolGM: "We will look into it."

I'd be interested in other peoples' experiences with Raizondetre. This is all so suprising for me as i've never had a bad experience with her, after staticing with her for over 6 months.

If the check message is so offensive to japanese players why did SE impliment this feature in a japanese game?
i was thinking the same thing.
my ex is 1/2 Japanese 1/2 scotch Irish <i know what a combo> her mother is 100% Japanese and i learned alot about their culture especially the food yummy. although i ran into some rude Jpn also some rude EU and Na i learned from my exes mother what a lot of ppl perceive as rude from Jpn is actually a form of xenophobia the are very rooted in traditional ways of thinking and don't like to veer from it. something new IE. foreigners are scary to them. now just because a Japanese person thinks some thing is rude doesn't always make it so in other cultures. for us /check is not rude for Jpn it is for us slurping your soup and noodles loudly is rude for a Jpn it is not . it about culture i don't think anyone is wrong or right except for extremist mid eastern terrorists. but then Maybe i am wrong meh i don't sweat the dumb stuff

I accept that the JP might find someone using the /check function of the game to be rude. I can even understand the logic behind why they might find it offensive.

I just don't fucking care.

Well, i would recommend you start caring or at least start pretending to. Because whether you like it or not, around half of the FFXI population are Japanese.

It's not really that. It's more of the fact that with most people you don't know, there's absolutely no way of knowing what nationality they are just by looking at their name and LS color. So when you check them and it turns out they're Japanese, the most you can do is apologize or something along those lines...and at least half the time they'll still be annoyed/upset. And if you ask every single person to check them first, you often get some NAs laughing or even barking at you for asking to do something so silly. It's potentially lose-lose either way.

And they can get offended when I /check them without asking first (though I rarely check anyone that hasn't checked me first) and I can get offended that they put {English}{No thanks.} in their search comments, and we can all be offended together.

And I still won't care that they find it so incredibly offensive to use a built-in function of the game, particularly when there are tons of JP that spam check on me when I run around in relic armor on DRK or PLD.

I see what you're saying Mish, but i'm not trying to say that we should tip-toe around just in case they're Japanese. Nor am I saying that we should act the same as them and adopt their ways of doing things. What i'm saying (or trying to say) is that we should at least be aware of their nature and culture, and accept it when they react in a way we see as inproper... rather than flaming them, insulting them and embarassing them.

This person has a mule called Sephriot?

**ALARM BELLS RINGING**

Seeing that and reading all the posts that kind ofexplains what he is and why behaves like that. :nyam:
