So, I was at a friend's house yesterday. After more people came over, we all went to the movies and saw The Ring 2 (and coincidentally a girl I like :D ). Afterwards, we raided Blockbuster.

In order, we watched Napoleon Dynamite, Next Friday, Requiem For a Dream ( Heroin: X{Thank you} ), a few episodes of Curb your Enthusiasm, Donnie Darko, and we started watching Vampire Hunter D.

A couple minutes into Vampire Hunter D, one of my friends turned off the Xbox and put in Spirited Away. I didn't know what this was, but when the Disney logo showed up I was furious. "I WANT BLOOD!!!!!" I was so mad because he replaced a (what seemed to be) awsome anime with some rated G crap.

Well, I learned my lesson. Don't judge a book by it's cover. I eneded up liking the movie....alot! I reccomend it for all of you.

***Edit for Spelling***

Yep, Spirited Away is a pretty nifty movie and im glad I own it. If you liked that one you should check out (damn i know im gonna spell this wrong) Princess Mononoke. I'm pretty sure it's made by the same guy but I can't remember off hand. It's been a while since I saw it but I thought it was a very good movie.

I have a lot of the Miyazaki movies, and my daughter watches most of them. Princess Mononoke is a litle more mature for her, but the others she likes. The one I would highly recommend, up there with Spirited Away, is The Cat Returns. It's very amusing, and a little dark too. Oh, and Cary Elwes is still sexy, even just as the voice of a cat. MROWR.

I tried forever to get my ex to watch Spirited Away with me, but she never did. Her loss. Spirited Away is one of my absolute favoritest movies ever. Pardon the rugrat grammar there.

The Cat Returns, Porrco Rosso, and Nausicca were recently released on DVD. I dont know if it's the first time or not, but I was thinking of picking up one or two of them, any recomendations?

I've seen and own Spirited Away and love it.

I can definitely recommend The Cat Returns, I think that one is up there with my favorites now. I haven't seen the other 2 that were recently released, but my younger sister says that Nausicca is also very good.

I got Spirited Away cause I told my brother I wanted it :D So I got it for Christmas two years ago..I thought it was really good

yeah i love most of Miazuki's stuff its done really well. Some other good ones are Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky or Clouds something like that.. They were both really good films i highly recomend watching both of them. one i never go to see was called Mr. something (iforget his name) : My Neighbor Next Door.. can anyone recomend it.. and possibly give me the correct name?

My Neighbor Totoro is a great movie to see as well ^^
In Japan it was a double feature...with Twilight of the Cockroaches.. o_o;

Same thing with me but I got her to watch and she really loved it (let her borrow Monoke after that). Spirited Away is a really good touching movie, i ejoyed it alot. Requiem for a Dream...........so crazy, I like the soundtrack too.

As long as you dont see "Grave of the Fireflies" you will be good. For the love of all that is good in this world, DO NOT see that movie. Its more like a slow torture/snuff movie for kids. Its about how America firebombed residential cities and its just awful. I'm all for learning the whole truth about how much people suck when it comes to war and how the movies never really portray how war is. But dear Lord that thing was sad. And i dont mean "i think i have somthing in my eye " sad, its more of a "dear God i hope no one is looking in this direction, cause i dont want to get cause crying like a 4 year old after Bambi" sad. Anyone who has seen this movie, please back me up on this one.

Remeber, it's not actually a Disney movie, it's Studio Ghibli.

Big difference.

Disney just has distribution rights here in North America.

Spirited Away won an Oscar for a reason.

I highly reccomend Nausica and Laputa (I think it's called Castle in the sky or something here...), also Princess Mononoke is very awesome. Grave of the Fireflies is an absolutely beautiful film but it is incredibly sad....I don't know if I'd buy it - kind of the way Schindler's list is an awesome film but not one that I'd buy because I really don't feel like making myself that depressed.

The whole "If it's not violent it's not good" and "It looks like it's for kids so it must suck" mentality drives me insane. So much great stuff get's passed over because people think it might make their dick shrink in size. Movies like The Iron Giant absolutely flop in the box office because people are too buisy watching The Punisher.

Appreciating something good reguardless of format/style (animated/not animated - violent/not violent) makes you more of an adult then picking your movies/games/interests soley based on the amount blood and violence present.

Duck Dodgers ripped off Iron Giant so bad XD (both of said = good)

Graveyard of the Fireflies was REALLY sad...just...period. Sad.

Reccommend The Chipmunk's Adventure.

Especially the part in the hot air balloon where they fly over savages to the song "Wooly Bully"

I like how the kid is better at self-control than the parents in Spirited Away.

My little brother watches Princess Mononoke twice a day...and my god-nephew started watching it religiously too.... so I don't know what to say..lol. I did like it when I first watched it.

The Punisher sucked, Iron Giant all the way.

The Iron Giant, that movie is a good one..
The Punisher..Wasn't.

Wha wha.. The Punisher freaking rocked. Could have used more death, but the amount they have was decent enough. If you want to see a sucky Punisher movie, go find the one with Dolf Lundry or whatever his name is. Then maybe you could appreciate the newer movie for what it is.

Ahem.. anyway, carry on. ^^

Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Kiki's Delivery Service are all fantastic animes. I've heard nothing but good in regards to the rest of Miyazaki's work. Unfortunately, we sometimes have trouble with availability out here so haven't seen the others. I know I'm going to sound like a total wimp but eh, some of the scenes in those movies are so powerful that I get teary eyed...
