Don't support gimpage!

Lol, that's still sad. Anyone knows a BLM/1WHM is way more useful than a BLM/MNK (of any lvl). What can you do on a 1 WHM? You can cure. What can you do on a 10 MNK sub? Nothing.
 
You can counter its attacks if you do not have a wand equipped and you pull hate :P
 
Nobody hear was leet from 1-30 first job first server. Don't forget that it is a game to play to have fun. Maybe instead of ditching pt to lfg for 3 hours you could make suggestions.

I definitely leveled monk to 30 with /whm12 as my sub before going monk sam for a long time until someone in my linkshell took pity on me and told me he got all his invites as mnk/war.

That said, I really have to laugh at myself back then and the people who put up with me to 30.

On a separate note . . . I got three invites to Japanese parties in the late 30's/early 40's as mnk/sam. All of the parties were EXTREMELY well run, and with different people. They used auto-translate really well and the parties were some of the best I've had. (Not to say that the JP are gods, as some do; just an interesting quirk that they invited me AS A MONK with a sub that NA generally agree isn't useful til 60).

Idk, I never had a gimped sub. We all start out with no money, that's no excuse. Who says you have to rush through the game and get to lvl 30 in a day? Take some time to farm once in a while.
 
Yeah, I just didn't even think about it in terms of efficiency at first. I liked monk as a damage dealer, but I also liked having this whole second job available to me, where I could cure or cast damaging spells or heal status effects. Back then, I didn't think about channeling the subjob into my main job's efficiency, but just about having a lot of options. Anyway, I didn't think of myself as gimp and loving it (I bet ol' what's-his-name /mnk doesn't either); but rather as having one job that was at the party's level, and a second that just helped out in off-circumstances.

I don't do that anymore in parties, of course (although I've though about leveling staff for times when a distortion burst is important before Dragon Kick), but just the other day I was farming recollections for a promy run (we just did dem and got the record -- see public album for the snapshot :D) and I subbed whm to mnk again just to farm faster.

Incidentally, when we were farming a bit more today while waiting on our 6th, my monk hit for about 10-15 damage more per fist (unparsed; just observational) with a warrior sub on the same mobs in Promy.
 
if you've had a game for 7 days you probably have no idea the drastic difference an appropriate subjob makes, and you just want to have some fun - so ease up eh? :wink:
 
I know the game is all about fun Raivyn. The problem is that if you don't start off on the right foot, you're just going to continue on the wrong foot. When I finally dinged 18 on my red mage and unlocked support job, the first thing I did was go and level both white and black mage. I ended up liking white mage a lot and just kept levelling it (red mage is STILL 18, haha) but I still put in the effort to be where I needed to be.

The point is that when you are subbing monk on black mage, you are missing out on literal lifesavers like Cure II, Poisona, etc. I know you want to get to 30 and get more jobs, but you have to think about the road there as well. It would take one day tops to go out and level whm to the point where you'd have the useful spells. You can solo any job you want to level 10 in a few hours just wearing the scrub armor you get at the start of the game, it's just a little time consuming.

It's all about taking your time and playing to be the best that you can. You don't need million gil armor before 30, but a subjob is something that's easy and beneficial to have available. If you aren't interested in being the best you can be, you might as well take up another game where you can slouch w/o hurting others.
 
Well I'm just playing devil's advocate on account of the fact that they seem like a nice person.

Why can't you relate these things to the individual instead of disbanding?

Anyway, I think im going to try DRK/MNK using h2h weapons and see how far I can get before I hit the level that I stop getting invites.

I played DRK/PLD for fun while I was out of parties and I even got several invites to go to the jungle. This was also while I was running around in Jugner Forest. How a DRK/PLD that isnt seeking and is sitting in Jugner can get an invite for all the way out in the jungle is beyond me.
 
I think it's the "There's only one person seeking and their a *insert gimped combo here*, better than nothing I guess".
