Well i got a new computer for Xmas and i had a friend download this AVG firewall shit. I've been trying to download stuff and it's retardedly slowed. I'm not sure it's the firewall. I just think it is since my old computer didn't really have one but it downloaded like a beast. I know it's not the seeders cause it takes over a day to download the new Bleach Eps and right now in the new eps it's a kick in the nuts waiting for it >.>. I know only what i'm told about computers and i usually respond to computer troubles with a swift kick to it's side.

Well i guess my question is. Could it be the firewall slowing down my DLs or is it something else completely like a port problem?

If anyone helps please dumb it down so the none computer people can understand it.

1) Are you trying to download stuff using Torrent?

2) Firewall do effect Torrent Program, it can block some of the seeder

3) If you can get your router (if DSL) to do "Single Static IP" (which i have on my Verzion DSL router) it can help increase the transfer rate

4) Turn off the firewall before starting up the Torrent, and see does it increase rate

5) if your upload is at 100% your download speed will decreased by a lot!

5a) if you can adjust your upload speed, set it on "Auto" or Half of your capable upload rate i.e if your upload is 80kb/s max, set it up to 40kb/s or 50kb/s

6) if you don't share files, someone of the seeder will block you

if your using Direct Download (like download directly from the site), is either their server sucks or your firewall effecting it, but usually firewall doesn't decrease the download rate

Try Turn off Firewall and see does it effect anything

Try downloading with the firewall disabled, any change?
ya, do this. Its not really necessary to have a firewall/anti-virus unless you typically visit harmful sites. You can easily keep your computer nice and clean just by doing normal stuff i.e. not downloading random programs, packages, zip files, or ANY cracks or key generators.

if you have a client for downloading torrents that you can direct through a port of your choice, bit comet for example, just set it to a random port number and open that port in your firewall.
I use port 9442 and i just open that in my firewall and my downloads are around 400 kb/s or higher

How would i go about that Chasym?

first go into your clients settings and see if it lets you choose a port of your own, if it does (or if you use bitcomet im sure it does) pick a random port, can be 9442 like me or whatever you want.
now youll need to connect to your routers interface via your web browser.
Check your manual to see what the adress to your router is but usually in most cases its 192.168.0.1 (i use d link alot so it might be different per brand)
once your in your interface look up your virtual server
name it torrent or whatever
for the ip, put in the same ip your router uses
protocol type is both TCP and UDP (if you can only select one, just make another one for the other)
private and public port is 9442 (or whatever port number you chose)
and schedule always.

you might not find all those exact same settings or terms in your router but its about the same.

also bit torrent alone uses its own ports so youll wanna read this and open these ranges too
For BitTorrent, many home users set up port forwarding on the TCP range 6881-6889. These ports must be directed to the computer running the BitTorrent client. If more than one computer on the network may run BitTorrent, a different range such as 6890-6899 or 6990-6999 can be used for each. Remember that BitTorrent uses ports in the 6881-6999 only.
