Yeah, I listened to em for a week before I found out what they were about .. This was 2-3 years ago, so they may have changed for the better..

I'm not religious in the least, but I love them. Their "All Else Failed" and their first c.d. which name escapes me are pretty bad lyric wise. It's all "Jesus this" and "Jesus that". I respect that and everything, but not my thing. But ever since they got Dan as a vocalist, they've changed quite a bit. Listen to stuff off of "Liberate Te Ex Infernis" and "Parade of Chaos". You won't be dissapointed.

Look for Darkane - anything from Rusted Angel or Expanding Senses.

If you want some death metal try of course Cannibal Corpse, but go for Suffocation, Napalm Death, Mortal Remains, Deicide.

If you want some retardedly technical death metal check out Necrophagist or Cephalic Carnage.

Ooooh, Fleshgrind is good too. Their new album title is fucking hilarious "Murder without End".

Before Dimmu Borgir kicked their drummer out (Which is still pretty rescent), they had mroe talent flowin through them than Cradle of Filth.. Filth is just well known and accepted mroe becausee it's one of the first Mainstream Blackmetal bands.. Personally I like em both.. Kings of the Carnival Creation ftw!

And for those who thing Cradle of Filth is crap.. From a musical stand-point, they're amazing and unique.. They've tied together metal, gothic music (Which is the definition of crap), and operetic tones to their music.. And if you don't like unique music, you are an emo-freak .. And don't even get me into that failed excuse for music.

Pretty much every band ever, except Simple Plan > Cradle Of Filth

And Raivyn, ouch, very ouch.

Power metal is sweet. Dragonforce, Rhapsody, Manowar, Blind Gaurdian. All that cool shit pretty much describing all the nerdy video games. Pretty much your average Dungeons and Dragons player's playlist.

and COF has gotten quite a lot of press but that doesn't make them any less good, think Opeth etc;.

I dunno in terms of talent - Cradle's "From the Cradle to Enslave" EP was arguably shoddy, but their subsequent works own Dimmu so hard stylistically. Dimmu only has Wagner influence going for them, Cradle draws from so much that they end up being quite unique.

I'd have to say my favorite Cradle song is "Her Ghost in the Fog"... I just love that one.

And dragonforce are mega gay :( Go listen to Jag Panzer or Impelleteri. Thats some good as power metal. There's one more I'm thinking of but I can't name it atm :(
