3 weeks until this releases in North America, and less than 3 weeks til the European release (September 12th EU/September 16th NA).

This is part 1 of the Zenithia Trilogy, a sky castle which is one of several elements from DQIV, DQV and VI, which are also going to be releasing in NA and EU, though no idea when, DQVI isn't out in Japan yet.

I'm a huge fan of Dragon Quest, and I'm looking forward to this, it's been 16 years since it's last been released in North America for the NES, though there was a PSX remake, which was supposed to release here, but the developer behind it folded.
It was even advertised on the back of the manual for Dragon Warrior VII on PSX.
The DS version is basically the PSX version, with some enhancements.

Although I must say I'm looking forward to DQV and DQVI more, neither of which have released outside of Japan, at least until these DS versions release here. There was a PS2 remake of DQV, but that was also unfortunately Japan only.

Anyone else planning on picking this up in mid September? Though Dragon Quest is a very traditional RPG series, so some people may be turned off.

I will likely be grabbing this, but only to stall me until CTDS comes out... /swoon

I'm on my third and final playthrough of FFIV, I should have it beat within 3 weeks, I need something new lol. DQIV in September, Star Ocean: First Departure for PSP in October and then Chrono Trigger DS in November.

Been playing this past few days, I'm loving it.
Though SE didn't bother to translate party talk feature, so character development is pretty much null, and the accents are kind of hard to get used to for Chapter 1 and 2, they do add flavor and style to the game though, and the other Chapters aren't as bad.

But the game was already translated when they released it in Japan last year, no reason they couldn't have done a simultaneous release if they weren't going to bother translating party talk, but least it's here now. Word on the street is SE wants to release Dragon Quest V DS in NA by the end of March 2009, and that isn't translated, so hopefully they decide to translate party talk.

Gonna pick up two of this game, one for me, and one for my Cousin who is currently a DS fangirl at 7 years old =3

Good lord the translation is horrible. Chapter one seemed to be passing the accents off as Scottish but Chapter two just butchers the dialogue all to hell. It isn't enough to turn me against my favorite game of all time but it is irksome.

I enjoyed the accents, each chapter has it's own distinct regional dialect, I mean yeah some seem overdone, but Chapter 1 is Scottish, Chapter 2 Russian, Chapter 3 Irish, Chapter 4 French and Chapter 5 is English aside from visiting the areas in other chapters. And I enjoyed the quirkiness, though I'll be upset if DQV features dialects like that.

First 2 chapters are the worst though imo, so if you can get past those the rest of it is fine.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride now has a North American release date for February 17th, 2009, a lot sooner than I thought it would.. Gah the beginning of the year is gonna be a lot of money spent, Star Ocean: Second Evolution for the PSP on January 6th, Dragon Quest V for DS on February 17th, Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the 360 on March 3rd followed by Valkyrie Profile for DS on March 17th.

Well yeah, little over a month, that's also been the stock image Gamestop.com has been using before SE unveiled the package on their blog.

Really? I didn't know that GS used it as package art, I only saw it today on the blog. Meh. I pre-ordered today anyway.

Yeah I've had mine pre-ordered, also if you order online at Gamestop.com you can use promo code DQV to get free 2 day shipping on it.

I live in the UK, so I bought it off amazon. Thank goodness I have free delivery for a month.

Yeah, I know.
Just posted that for others who may not have pre-ordered yet and wanna get free 2 day shipping.
Got it in an email from Gamestop but I won't be utilizing it, have had it pre-ordered for a while and have overnight shipping, I don't want to wait an extra day lol.

Here's some English videos of DQV DS, it seems the dialects which a lot weren't fond of in DQIV were toned down, which doesn't matter to me, I enjoyed the flavor they added to each chapter in DQIV, but I'm just glad to be finally getting DQV in North America.
