Anonymous GiTS fan noted a Variety story informing us that Dreamworks has acquired the rights to Ghost in the Shell and has plans to produce a "3D Live Action" version of the popular anime. This happened apparently because Spielburg is a fan. He says 'Ghost in the Shell' is one of my favorite stories... It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks.' I hope they add a talking donkey.

Hopefully they'll do the series justice. Here's the link for the article (http://www.variety.com/VR1117984029.html)

I have a feeling they are gonna fuck it up. Plus it'll be weird to hear all the chars with english voices regardless of how good they are.

I hope there is a cameo by Shrek. Not donkey though, he would ruin it.

Not really, since the series has already been dubbed into English.

I'm hoping (and would be surprised if they don't) use the same voices for SAC as the movie.

Universal and Sony were also chasing "Ghost in the Shell," but Steven Spielberg took personal interest in the property and made it happen at DreamWorks.

" 'Ghost in the Shell' is one of my favorite stories," Spielberg said. "It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment are attached to produce and brought the project to the studio. Jamie Moss has been tapped to pen the adaptation.

...

Avi Arad is at the forefront of comicbook-based material, having produced the three "Spider-Man" films, the three "X-Men" movies, the two "Fantastic Four" picss and the upcoming "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk."

Moss' writing credits include "Street Kings," which bowed Friday, and "Last Man Home," in development at Universal.

I haven't seen either Street Kings or Last Man Home. Where any of those movies any good?

Well for me it will, i watched like 2 dubbed episodes on CN which werent bad, but i've seen each movie and both seasons atleast twice subbed, so to me yeah itll be fucking weird.

hmm, this has potential to be good but I dunno.. having hope seems like a bad thing :P

I'm actually kind of hopeful it'll be good to be honest. Spielberg doesn't often make movies full of suck... On the contrary most movies he's had a hand in, especially the futuristic or special effects variety, are quality. Call me optimistic, but if anyone is going to attempt it, I think it's a pretty good sign that it's going to be him.

Agreed. It also doesn't hurt that he's a fan of it.

Artificial Intelligence: AI was full of suck.
The terminal was full of suck.
Twister was full of suck.
Arachnophobia was full of suck.
The Flinstones was full of suck and ruined The Flinstones for ever...

Meh maybe im just not a very optimistic person, must be the English. I'd name more but im sleepy. Hopefully he will do a good job though.... Hopefully...

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there on this point too.

I'd say the Warchowski brothers would excite me the most. I would also be really worried that they would mess it up and make it horrible.

Dreamworks and Spielberg makes me feel it will be mediocre, with little chance of it being awesome or horrible.

It's hard to call if I want the riskier choice or the safer choice.

The terminal was an amazing movie. How could anyone hate it? <_<

It bored me D:

Only part I liked in that movie was when he ate real food and almost died.

I hope after they turned Speed Racer in to F-Zero, they never find work again.

An F-Zero movie would've been cool, but not with a fucking Speed Racer theme to it. And they completely ruined Speed Racer by having everyone race on F-Zero courses.

I would've thought they were through when they horribly screwed up The Matrix with that god awful third movie.

I didn't find any of those movies full of suck. Well maybe the Flintstones, but let's be honest, I don't think anyone was lining up to see that anyway. Plus are you really picking these as examples of his work over Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, ET, Schindler's List, Minority Report...? The majority of his body of work is quality, that's the point I was making. Something Sci-Fi, high tech, futuristic, and story intensive is right up his alley.
