I dont know how the Americans do their licencing, but this is just a bit of advice for drivers.

For the love of backflipping jesus, Do NOT procrastinate and wait until last minute to take your drivers tests.

(This may be hard to explain since Ontario does it differently that America)

I am quite the procrastinator, I leave everything until the last minute, and end up scrambling at the end. Its just what I do, bad bad habit. So the story..

In Ontario, after writing your G1 (Can only drive with a licenced driver of 4 years having a Full G licence) you take a test to have a G2 Class, one year later. G2 allows you to drive any time, anywhere, but you cannot have any BAC (Blood Alcohol Content). The G is a G2 but you are allowed to drive while under 0.07BAC.

After wiriting your G2, you have roughly 4-5 years to take your G exam, and claim your final licence. As of today, my G2 expired 9 days ago.

I took the G test about 3 weeks ago and failed (which they fail almost all males in my age group to get more money, and to make us work harder to be "better drivers") and had an extension for today, so I may write my test.

Since I got an extension, If I failed, My licence would become a G1 again, and I would not be allowed to graduate to G2 until a full year later. Going back to a G1 would mean I would lose my job, my car, my ablility to visit friends and my mom, and just overall suck.

Thank god that today I passed. If I had taken this month ago, when they alerted me that my licence would expire, I would not have gone through stressing and worrying what I would do if I lost my licence.

I normally dont post on QCDN unless its for dynamis, but I felt that, maybe, if someone was a procrastinator like myself, they would get off their ass and get it done. I wouldnt want anyone to come as close as I did, to a total suck fest for the next year.

I know its no ones fault but my own, and if I had not pulled off a miracle I would be walking to work. But please, do yourself a favor and go get it done. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

Im gonna go do some doughnuts in the parking lot now.

Yeah I waited on mine too, 2 years lol, and it was a pain in the ass. If i had just taken the test when i was 16 I could have scheduled it at a decent time and what not, but instead I had to wake up at fucking 5 in the morning to be there early, and i failed twice cause idk about you, but before ~9 oclock i dont even know where the fuck i am. I still got my license before school started this year which was good because im doing PSEO and i need to drive (or take the bus which is a pain in the ass). Before i just caught rides or walked because I live like 2 mins from my school.

So even if you aren't gonna have a car or be driving, its still better to get your license asap. Although i think im in the very very few minority of people who actually wait to get theirs.

Cmon guys lol, I on the other hand did not procrastinate, instead I made my G road test, showed early and all.. I even got a canadian female instructor.. just to find out my sticker had expired and I couldn't take the road test anyway!! By the way, I'm only a cosigner, so I'm not responsible for the stickers otherwise they would have been up-to-date considering women do it right the first time. Needless to say, I have to pay half of the final fee again :( but I'm waiting until spring, there are too many twits on the road here in Ontario to jump on the 401 during winter eh :)

I still have a couple years left. Get R Dun guys lol

In California I bungled my first test by driving with one hand instead of the 10:00 and 2:00 position. My next attempt was cake since the Indian guy testing me didn't care much for working at the DMV and had me drive around the block a couple times. The irony is that most of the people that work in the DMV at the multiple locations in the San Francisco Bay Area mostly complete pricks.

I would just like to say... its spelled "License" :p that is all

HAHA, what's wrong with being another statistic on the 401 from hell?

Congratulations on passing Genk, I was in the same situation as you but with my motorcycle license. I had my M2 and they said if I didn't take my test before April then I'd lose it. Kind of hard to drive a motorbike in snow...

Lol how about.. not so much thanks :)

In my few years driving I have enough experiences with the dicks, twits and down right skillless stunned arses on our Canadian GTA highways. What a very scary thought.
Tell me you haven't seen these overly nervous, dangerously cautious immigrant women driving barely seeing over the wheel... not too mention overly CONFIDENT stupidly speedy cell phone addicted canadian women driving SUV's in everyones lane but their own!!

I think waiting until spring then moving away from people is a good idea =)

I apologize to those who may be offended... I seem sexest to my own.. I have only mentioned women above, but if I started on men.. you'd never shut me up >.<

Now that's a sexist statement!

Yep... :) so I stick my foot in my mouth as you can see, but willingly at least.

Many women are a nightmare to share the roads with, but it's fare to say women often do things right the first time (that is just a stab I've heard many times over the years working corps)

It's all in good fun

Oh I agree... I had to carpool with an employee to a convention. We were running late which led up to these instances within a 15min. drive:

1. Cuts off a driver
2. Gets cut off by another driver and almost rear ends her
3. Decides to turn her head around and look at a cherry Chevelle
4. Cuts across 3 lanes to get to our exit
5. Cuts off more people while doing #4

As soon as we get to the convention I forbade her from ever offering me a ride anywhere.

BTW, was totally kidding about the sexist comment, I thought it was funny lol.

ok BUT statistically speaking, it is MEN who are involved in more accidents involving other drivers... WOMEN merely tend to hit inanimate objects :p

also a neat fact I found from this site: http://www.car-accidents.com/pages/car-crash-men-woman.html

Men are more than twice as likely to die in a car crash than women, consider the yearly statistics shown below. In fact, studies have shoiwn as many as 73 percent of all people killed in car accidents are male. Since record keeping began: male fatalities significantly outweigh female fatalities. However men and women do not drive the same number of miles under the same conditions- men do about 60-65% more driving than women. Studies show that woman take shorter trips and female drivers have a greater number of minor crashes than do men. However men are still 70% more likely to be in a serious crash.

Car Crash Stats:

Persons Killed, by Sex: Male, Female in 2006
Male Drivers Killed 29,722 Female Drivers Killed 12,747 Total Both Sexes: 42,469 173 Drivers Unknown Sex Not Included

What accounts for this disparity?

Some researchers believe the explanation is to be found hormones related to aggessiveness, others put more emphasis on data such as the measurebly greater alcohol use among men while driving.

Men hit the women who are driving badly.

On topic: I haven't took my test yet. I started lessons and then moved out to Uni and didn't bother. Going to do one of those intensive courses when I get the money. Before the government here change the requirements in the test and make it twice as hard.

In response to this, my co-worker is quite "mannish" lol.

hahahah win

ontopic i aced my drivers test first try, im a good driver i think, i tend to speed a bit but within reason, im a highway driver

but i can say that i saw this one maybe 30 year old woman driving an astro van the other day...almost driving on the curb, doing 20 miles under the speed limit, left hand turn signal blarin for about a mile. i would say that men are more wreckless drivers and woman are more cant drive for shit drivers (sorry ladies but that wasnt the first occurance of a bad woman driver i came across) i do have to say that this one kid i use to hang out with couldnt drive for shit, he couldnt brake properly, he couldnt turn right lol

some people just cant drive lol

I'm 20 years old and don't have mine yet. I'm working on it right now, though. I'll be getting a car soon, so I kind of need it.

Grats on the upgrade Genk. Now you can drink and drive!

The 401 was alright, it was the Queensway in Ottawa that used to freak me the hell out. It seemed like that stretch from Bank St to the Rideau Centre was hell.

I'm confused how driving is that hard where people can fail their tests that bad. I aced my test the first time at age 16 and the test wasn't just some "Drive around the block" type deal. It was driving, turning, parking, parallel parking, K turns, and so much more. The test I had was about 20 minutes too, not some 5 minute job like I hear so often about other places. I don't know if it's a NY State thing or just the place I went, but we take driving seriously here.

I guess I did have a real good teacher. My dad is a UPS driver and can fit his UPS truck into places most people can't even park their regular cars in lol

My driving test in Calgary consisted of, residential, school and playground, highway (deerfoot for anyone who knows the city, scared me shitless my first time), and 3 specialty maneuvers, so it was like 3point turn on a residential street, parallel, and some braking shit. Took about 30-40 minutes.

If you want to see bad drivers, look up episodes of Canada's worst driver, there have been a couple seasons so far. And there are some who are worse than those people I've encountered.

It's gotten to the point where if there is a bad driver in front of me, I can probably tell you the gender, race, and age of the person, just from the shear numbers I've encountered and driving style.. haha
