why do a lot of DRKs wear their AF boots?

i dont see any gain from MND+3
maybe "enhance arcane circle" has some benefits during certain situations

wouldnt something like leaping boots be better? (assuming one can afford it of course)

can anyone enlighten me on this?

cause it matches the rest of the outfit...

but i did use leaping boots when i was leveling drk alot. also used hairpin or valk mask instead of helmet.

There arent really better boots for a while :/ Or werent last I knew. The Def is nice, and if you exp on arcana (like in Sky) the arcane circle bonus is nice. Of course you have thick boots by then. I guess winged/leaping works.

And yah it matches so pretty ;)

As for hats, valk mask is great until you get your AF helm, but the helm is pretty swell itself. I still have it macro'd into souleater for the bonus. Use my optical for leveling now though :)

I think the bonus is +5 instead of +3, but in any event the extra MND is good for better chances of resisting white magic cast on you by mobs. And like Mist said it's good to have the arcane circle bonus against arcane mobs. Every AF set has a stat boost that seems out of the ordinary. For example my Beast Helm gives me +5 to INT, which is pretty much useless to a BST (although supposedly INT helps with resisting black magic 8) )

I use Winged Boots. No other drk has convinced me of why I should use my af boots other than to macro them in for Arcane Circle (not that I ever really get to use that much...). I would love to hear the reasoning behind it. One drk told me I was "dumb" for wearing Winged Boots but wouldn't tell me why. *shrugs*

Sorry but Dark Knights don't use any white magic....MND affects Cross Reaper, so they may be somewhat usefull for that.

Leaping boots/Winged boots are probably your best bet until level 62, if you're a HUME

Marine M/F Boots:

Def: 9 HP: 60 STR: 3 DEX: 3 VIT: 2 AGI: 2 INT: -3 MND: -3 CHR: -3

Nothing better than these in my opinion. Especially for Spinning Slash.

Edit~ The main reason why I bought these boots, is for the STR.

I have 2 equipment macros. Accuracy and Strength equipment.

Total of 40 Accuracy and 33 Strength.

Acc = Sniper's X2, Lifebelt, Merman's Gorget, and Royal Knights gloves
Str = Sun ring X2, Vanguard's belt, Spike Necklace, and Custom M Gloves

Before every Spinning Slash I use that STR macro, I also Absorb-STR for the best results....With a successful absorb I get +54 STR.

Add that to my base of 66+54 = Goddamn.

Watching Spinning Slash do 1,200+ dmg and followed by a 1,200+ Light is a beautiful thing

Dowzer, not everyone has 2 mil for those boots

Actually, Rappa, I suggest using your RSE boots instead of leaping boots. The essential stats on both are +3 STR for the RSE and +3 DEX for leaping. Supposedly, DEX doesn't increase hit-rate very much, and Mithra have enough DEX as it is. But, Mithra lack STR, so using +STR equipment is probably a good idea.

I just use the R.K. Sollerets for my DRK ... lol MND+5 isnt that good at all...I'll macro them for my DRK after Cross reaper since it's MND dependant, (but I'm elvaan already have highest MND base :P ) so i dunno but until then the AGI+2 is more usefull for a Elvaan DRK than the MND+5...

I use the AF boots. I don't have the means to just churn out 2 mil, for a pair of boots that help me just a little bit more and if I did have 2 mil on me boots are not at the top of my 'to buy' list right now. I've looked and there really aren't that many good boots I can see buying as an Elvaan Drk.

I don't see how +2 Agi is any more useful than +5 Mnd to a Drk. >.>

AF boots, the defense is nice, granted def isnt #1 priority for a Drk, though it certainly does help. I'd say the winged boots are definately better for their stats, but the gil for those could be better spent on a hauby, or a hauby +1, or sniper rings if you dont have those, or even snipers +1 would be a better investment.

Not everyone has 2 mil. But everyone needs ATLEAST 2 mil to reach end game with proper equipment.

I know that. I farmed my ass for a specific reason too, not just those boots. I have all the gear I need to reach 75 without another minute of farming....but I still farm/hunt NM anyways because I like to.

If were to buy the boots specifically for STR...that's quite a big loss. As I could easily buy 2 Victory Rings OR possibly start saving for Alykenous bracelets.

That 2 mil was originally for the Balmung. (Even though I payed 1.4mil for the boots heheh)

Next level I sell these puppies and pickup one of the best G-Swords in the game.

Great contribution Sethala, I totally forgot about the Mithra RSE... STR is a big priority.

MNK AF stats are used in full

Temple Crown: MND+5, added Chi Blast Damage
Temple Cyclas: VIT+3, added Chakra heal value, thankfully on the same peice that also enhances Chakra itself
Temple Gloves: STR+4, if you don't know, stop playing the game.
Temple Gaiters: DEX+3, a slight boost in accuracy and critical hit ratio. Later on, a stat that the damage from Asuran Fists draws off of. Possibly Raging Fists too.

Temple Hose have no attribute modifiers. Thus, they are permastoraged.

Also, MND affects how well debuffs work on you(Paralyze), how long they'll last, and how often you'll just totally resist. When I do Kirin with Valkyrs, and summoned Byakko does Roar, it's pretty rare for me to actually feel the effect of the Paralyze.

For example, when we did him Sunday, and Byakko Roared, I was paralyzed yes. But not once did it ever kick in, and it wore off REALLY fast. It was also Icesday.
