I built a new computer about 3 months ago. My old one has not run FFXI since.

Instead of going through 37min of updates on the old one, could I just copy them from my main system across the network? I know it'll take way less time, probably 6-10min, just not sure if FFXI is going to check all the files itself anyways.

Yep, copying all your files over from one installation to another works, just make sure you have ToAU and the other expansions installed first, before copying them or you might have some problems (probably not, but it couldn't hurt to be prepared)

I'm glad you're trolling today, blab... thanks mang.

You also need to export your registry values for playonline.

How does one do that?

Regedit might work.

Why not just update the old one when you go to bed or something? That is what I do and I play on PS2, 360 and PC. Course I have 3 accounts so that makes it a little more painless but really, just start DL, go to bed and close it out in the morning when you wake up.

Just open of a second copy of windower.
Problem solved.

also can send all your macros onto other PC to ^.^

We decided I would be dual-boxing for CoP tonight, and I completely forgot about updating my system. I went to log onto it an hour early to see if my macros copied over ok, then got stuck with that little gem.

I did end up just letting the d/l finish since it was down to 18min eta by the time I had made the shares and all, but I'm still glad to know this since I dont dualbox much and will undoubtedly encounter this in the future.

Best thing to do is.... buy a spare hardrive stick it into PC you use when you get a new PC just hit on old PC back up files will put everything on the 2nd hardrive and you then just unplug it and put into new PC. Then use system update and you got everything from old PC you backed up and on new PC

Yeah, I play multiple accounts all the time, so keeping everything updated has become second nature to me lol. Sucks when you need to log in a mule for gear and then have to update an entire system just to get your 7 Squid Sushi +1s...

This only works when you are using the same OS, and even then there is the chance it will not recognize the data that is stored on it. I could tell you why this is not a good practice but I'm too drunk to go into detail.

Sorta related... Anybody know the files that contain your macros?
I just installed on a laptop and don't want to redo them...

\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER

There will be a bunch of subfolders in here that have some really effed up names like e0644d etc. These represent all your characters. You need to go into each folder and look for some files called:

mcr.dat
mcr1.dat
mcr2.dat
...
mcr9.dat

Those are your macro palettes. Copy them, paste to the same folder on your new installation.
