Ok heres my question:

Right now im playing a level 44 warrior, and i was wondering... If i dual wield an axe in my primary hand...i have an attack rating of 192...if i wield a sword in that primary hand, i have an attack rating of 188. The question is, when i wield the axe in main hand, does the sword actually do damage of of an attack rating of 192? does it lessen the DMG of the axe? If i didn't confuse u, and you may have some useful knowledge to share w/ me, please do.

I wonder this because i've set my eyes on a really nice sword that i would like to use at level 55, i would also like to get the most out of my warrior. Though my sword is also capped so it wouldn't hurt much, but just a question. Does an axe/sword combo weaken a warrior at all?

Juggernaut/Ridill end-game <|Can I have it?|> hehehe

I think there is some sort of inherent abilities in things. For instance, axe is naturally stronger than sword is right? Makes sense for it to do a bit more damage in main hand. This is not some crazy theory I cooked up either. I noticed the other day when I partied with another Ranger.

I was 56 and he was 55. I dont think there were any stat differences base value. We had the EXACT same gear, except he was Elvaan and I was Hume. Now the only difference we had, was I wore Hume RSE +3 str, +3 dex, -1 agi, and he wore Noct +1. So this compared to he had 48 +2 str, and I had 48+5 str. I also ate Squid Sushi +1 compared to his normal version, but I think that has no impact on this. If it does then my theory is screwed. So I was stronger than this Elvaan (heh sucka ^^). Yet everytime we fought, I would hit for 121 + fire damage, and he would hit for 122 + fire. EVERY SINGLE TIME! His Barrage would hit for 730, mine would hit for about 720 max. Strangely, Sidewinders hit for the same amount.

This leads me to believe that there may be a SLIGHT possiblity that there is an inherent bonus to some things. Namely, Elvaan will always be a bit stronger unless the difference is massive, axe will always hit harder than sword, etc. Course this might just be a sad little ploy of mine to make up for getting beaten ; ; that my subconcious created.

Did you try checking what your attack rating was with 2 axes? That could, possibly, clear up your question.

Axe/sword is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. I did that up until lvl 56 when I just needed to offhand my viking axe.

Oddly enough, a lot of the best weapons a warrior can weild in the endgame are not axes or greataxes. (Joyeuse, Ridill, Kraken Club...)

Sword is a viable combo as high as at least 55. I had a War/Nin tank at 55 and he still hit for great damage. Yes sword is not the best by far, but if you want to break the mold a bit, go for it.

K, to answer the OP's question:

No matter how you weild, axe/sword or sword/axe, they both do their same respective damage in normal hits. The difference comes in WSs. Axe in main hand is better than sword in main hand because:
- Axe has higher base DMG and attack/accuracy, so your WS will be stronger and more accurate.
- Axe WSs are generally better than sword WSs. At your level Raging Axe is much better than Fast Blade.

There is no good sword pre-50, so you should just do axe/axe. At 50 you got T.M. Espadon, at 55 you got Bloodsword, both are very good off-hand weapons *if you have no accuracy problem from ditching the off-hand Viking*

@Faedryth
Even though you have 3 more STR in gear, an Elvaan RNG at 55 has 7 more base STR than you do, so he comes out ahead with 4 more STR.

axe is A rated weapon for war, that is best choice generally for dual weild for war/nin.

Granted, axe/axe is just plain better. But warriors have to think about their versatility. Part of that is having more than 2 weapons capped. Sword is very important to level up in order to gain access to Spirits Within. Offhanding a sword until ~lvl 56 is a good way to do this.

when lvlin war for the sub i tend to use axe/axe for the attk bonus. I just believe it's overall better for dmg...but it also depends on ones race as well...for example b/c I'm mithra then I choose axe b/c when tanking it gives me better dmg b/c i don't have as much str as say an elvaan or galka. but if you're a galka and want to concentrate on perhaps speeding up ones attacks then I'd use the sword for the delay.
