Dunes sucks, dunes suck...

Almost every dunes pt has 1 or 2 pl's. Just one reason of the many higher lvl noobs.
Power level or not, you can still get like 2-3 levels per hour depending on the party. Plus, I get asked questions a lot in there. I love helping newcomers with advice. I like the Dunes; no problem if there's newcomers. It's people that think they know everything that suck.

Now, that's the kind of person I appreciate. I'm new to the game, so I could always use some advice. I'm a pretty quick learner, but yeah I'm gonna screw up at first. Got from a level 12 to 18 thief in the dunes, and met some very helpful people that gave me pointers on how to use my abilities.

Welcome to Final Fantasy XI, then!

I feel the same way, Wicked. I've only been playing a couple of months and when you've got a lvl 30 job and ask questions about things, most people I run into have such an additude about giving any helpful information. "Look it up" and the like. It's a welcome change to actually run into someone who will give ten minutes of their time to explain something. I realize that there's players with literally years of time invested in this game, but there still are new players who may not be half-bad if given the chance. The dunes taught me a lot about playing my job and I'm not really dreading going back there to level another one.

I'll explain something if i see it needs explaining, most of the time though i DON'T anymore and most people that have been around long enough DON'T because of the jackass's that bitched at us for giving them advice. If i'm in VD's or a newbie zone and i'm asked a question i won't brush them off like they arn't there, i'll take a few min to help them out. usually they /befriend me and continue to send {/tells}if i'm busy i tell them so(usually only during a big fight or when i'm tanking), if i'm not i help them.

There are 2 people i admire for this "help" system. the first is Neyla, a name that will always stand above everyone else to me. she helped me from day one, even put up my split personality ;) hehe aka 2 people 1 character till i branched off to many characters. the second was a young taru that i meet one day while at work, i had just created passions. all my gil was on other accounts and i was just running around nOObishly. He found me at the AH bitching about wooden arrow prices lol. I had forgotten about the newbie shops, although he was only lvl 30 or something he stayed with me for quite awhile ( i acted like a nOOb lol was board) he showed me around and helped me get some lvl 1 armor for my thf. when he left i told him to remember "kindness pays" he asked what that meant i told him just to remember it. I never saw him in game again though :( but i sent 100k to his DB to help him along his way. Don't brush people off, you never know who your meeting is the moral of the story. DUGH watch beauty and the beast geesh

you will one day, oh yes one day it will come that you will say SHIT i dun wana go to VD's {/l anyone wana pl my party in VD's?}
or..
you will choose to solo through most of it and finally pick up a party around 15-16 and maybe not even then.

lol, none of us said that new players shouldn't be helped. There is a difference between answering questions that newcomers have and holding their hand through the important learning levels not lettnig them understand the point and function of their class.

yeah >_> from now on im going to start pting in the maze of shakhrami at levels like 9 to about 16 instead of Valkrum Dunes.... much better EXP if u just stay close to zone and fight maze makers and gobs....

No, Sculli doesn't play the game. He just butts in on things that don't even apply to him. It's his page so I can see him wanting to post, but I say he should leave FFXI posts to those who actually PLAY the game.

Yeah. Even power leveling is okay to an extent. If I power level, I always make sure the person knows what they're doing first. If they don't, I tell them what to do then I help them out a little bit. The only person I ever power leveled excessively was Alexxis, and she turned out to be a good RDM anyway.

My roomie just partied with him the other day, in Garbage Shitadel. Apparently there were some Wingrats issues. XD

Case in point tonight I had a quifm party where the whm had obviously and admitedly never main healed in a party setting. She was level 20. After teaching her how to use the f-keys and not to curaga mid fight and to heal after battle she was actually not bad. No one laughed or cursed her out so it probably helped.

I am really sickened by the fact that no one took the time before us to help her out. She had no idea how to play whm. None. Thank you dunes PL'ers.

If the PL lets the tank provoke and hold aggro, the new people can actually learn. Stop letting the PL tank, it hurts everyone, no hate is established and the mob goes nuts anyways. The healer has nothing to do and the DD dont learn to control their own hate levels.

/shrug.

You talking Skulli?
Sculli says he quit the game as a result of real life issues. Heck, his sig even says it. Bringing up another topic here, Garlaige isn't crap. It's people who decide it's cool to camp right next to the zone that's crap. I've seen TONS of camps on the ground level. TRY THEM!

That's one of the whole ideas of power leveling. It's okay for the PL'er to do that and use whatever (good) strategies he or she likes. The only bad thing about some power levelers is if they do it to the same person or people for like 5-10 levels straight! That happened to my friend once. He's a WHM and his party was power leveled for like 6 consecutive hours, helping him from Lv10 to about Lv20.

I think your talking about "newbs" and not "noobs".
Doesn't matter. Newbs shouldn't be speed-leveled because then they never learn the game which ends up making noobs. Noobs shouldn't be speed-leveled because they're just plain stupid and shouldn't be by the time they're whatever level they are. By level 40, you should be able to cure...

By Speed leveling, do you by any chance, refer to power leveling as pretty much the same thing?
