Duoing Beastmaster

Ok me and my girlfriend have decided we will duo bst for a bit of fun together. Now she will definately be going as bst/whm. I was wondering therefore what sub should I do? I really don't want to go as bst/whm if I don't have to. The subs I have ready at the moment are 11whm, 32rdm, 21blm, 32war (don't think my other jobs will make good subs for bst).

My initial thoughts are to go bst/war for the added damage, eat bream sushi and have her eat rolanberry pies (or other mp+ food). Anyone able to shed some light into this for me?

Go as BST/RDM. It will make a good compliment to your BST/WHM partner and you will get the added benefits of Gravity & Dispel eventually.

BST/WAR is probably going to pull hate too much and your duo partner is going to run out of MP real quick. I tried to duo with a DRG once and he died real quick.

I'm thinking maybe the /rdm and use a scythe with bream sushi? That would be a sort of balance wouldn't it?

I'd like to see a bst/rdm land dispel and gravity on an exp mob... and even some of the too weak, ones.

Generally you are fighting T mobs so /rdm could be better about landing enfeebs.... but in general though you don't enfeeb because it isnt worth the mp for a possible land. /Rdm is an alright sub anyway for bst in a duo, I say /nin but do not dual wield you can grab hate pretty easily while fighting but its also too slow for when you leave your pet assuming you whiff a shot. And if you do grab hate during fighting, you have shadows to stop a hit while you turn around and let your pet get hate back.

Ok this is going to be confusing lol. My nin is 18 and wont ever go higher, I hated every minute of it and it's just not a job that appeals to me. Having said that I think i'll do /whm to 20 then do /nin to 37 and probably /rdm or /war depending on what type of mobs we are fighting. Before you say level whm it is also one of the jobs I have no intention of levelling up. I play this game for fun and i'm not going to do something that bores me ^^.

Past say 14, you will probably never land an enfeeble on an xp mob, so take that out of consideration. In this duo, Bst/Nin or Bst/Whm will be best. Your GF may be /whm, but bsts have barely enough mp to cure themselves, much less two people. In a Duo, your pets should be doing most of the work anyway.

I'd say /WHM, regardless of your gf having it. Means getting your hp back all the quicker (much easier to get back 24mp than 90hp, as an easy example). /NIN is good if you were melee alongside your pet, but you wouldn't want to be doing that until later levels and don't wanna snag hate either way.

I’d say it’s definetly a job where you can play around with different subs. My duo partner says he gonna sub /pld or /brd one day… but he hasn’t done it yet… I think he’s bluffing O.o

/whm has so many good attributes to it. I wouldn’t disclude it just yet.

1.Sneak/Invis are imperative for when your lvling in places that are hard to get to. Granted you can buy the oils and powders… but that’s not too cost effective. You can rely off your duo buddies for sneak/invis… but I bet that rubs them wrong sooner or later as the mp pool for a bst is laughable.

2. At the earlier lvl’s you guys are at, hate is so easy to get. A squishy sub like /whm really helps to keep that fine balance of letting your pet keep hate.

3. Auto-regen and the actual regen spell means much less down time. Especially when your out farming with jug pets the auto regen means you never have to think about taking a knee.

4. The whm curative spells are almost a must when you go out on your own.
Poisona has saved many o bsts asses more time than we could all count
Bar-(insert element here) saves lives…. Ask any Gob Bomb
Raise at 50 means you no longer have to wait for one when your buddy takes a fall.
Reraise (much later on) means you save a lot of travel time from home pointing
…and Erase…. That expensive spell Erase… I’m so glad I have that from the first moment a magic pot casted Gravity on me.

Because there is no official whm in the party, you really have to be one yourself… even with the gimped mp pool. Granted you can have others sub /whm for your benefit but there are some consequences to that that mainly rest on whoever you are duoing/trioing with…. You may wanna talk it over with them.

The game should be fun… sometimes though you gotta bite the bullet and lvl a job your not in love with. Exspecially when it comes to lvl’ing your sub’s sub.

I hope it works out well for you all… and I hope you have fun.

I think after reading all this i'll just go /whm to 23 and if i've decided to level whm by then i'll carry on. If not i'll do /rdm.

/WHM all the way

the most important part of BST hate control. It's important you understand this going in cause you don't want to learn it the hard way.

/WHM sub is great for so many reasons, first, it contributes most to base charisma stat as a sub, at early levels with not much + chr gear to stack, every bit helps, specially when you use charm resistant mobs. In a duo, you still need to be able to heal yourself, your going to be taking on tougher mobs and are going to get hit for more damage, if you need hp before the end of the fight you need to recover hp outside of the mobs range, where cure spells will not collect hate. Witha duo partner this would probably be to confusing. WHM severely reduces down time cause let's face it, your going to get hit. Later on in the game you get Blink and Stoneskin, right now I'm fighting mobs that can kill me in 2 melee moves or one special move without it up at all times.

Really with a duo, I found to really do well, you need to be self sufficeint to an extent. Hate is so iffy improvising and adapting is essential to survival. Those early levels you can play with sub alot on not hurt yourself too much. I did /WAR til 20, then tried /WHM and haven't left it since. Having alot of subs available is also great, some exp situations might be great with a /NIN or /RDM(which works good too, just not my preferred). Expirement, find what you like, it ain't an exp party, noone will call you a moron for a unusual sub. That is the benefit of BST.

Just don't get too frustrated 1-35 are hell and there will be ups and downs, mostly downs, but worth it, good luck dude, need any help in game /tell Thefonz

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm thinking of giving whm a bit of a go and if I still hate it i'll do /rdm. Thefonz I was pling my gf and saw you in La Theine. You died and wouldn't let me raise you :( I was playing as Xephon by the way.

Lol, yeah I remember that, that was me being a newbie SMN, was embarassing as hell, used astral flow and was going to try and one shot a even match, but I didn't consider to think blood pact has a 1 minute timer so I used a bloodpact right before astral flow thinking I could do both.... wrong. HP'd right as I saw you cast Raise, thanks for the attempt man, lol

Thefonz.... vetran BST...... newb SMN

I'd totally reccommend going /rdm. Specially for those higher levels at least. I remember doing the boyada tree fun...my partner went /rdm and it worked wonders for the crabs.

was kicking myself the entire time for not having dispel on those little bastards, especially when it took 3-4 mandies to solo them.... then again, dispel with out erase is like pizza without anchovies... it's just wrong

The Vetran BST meaning you've done it for a long time, and that alone right?

Jkjk buddy, you're my fav bst XD Member when we trio'd in Altep???
Good old days when SE didn't fuck over bsts...

Anyways, i got to my lvl bst (53) by duo'ing like 90% of the time.
We both wore WHM sub, the sneak/invis help past 50 to get to camp, and get mobs, which are sometimes in hostile areas (ie. Crawlers Nest).
And one can backup the other. I can't count the number of times my bst partner saved me or vice versa, when we Leave our pets for the final kill, and someone got more aggro then the other.

Anyways, just my 2 cent...

Cheers, and good bsting,

Dj

People keep saying this but rdm gets sneak and invis at the same level as whm.

I meant as oposed to /nin and /war or what not. You're right, my mistake, i should have said either /whm or /rdm.

Cheers
