I keep getting told that the 8800s won't be able to cut it in a few months, but Lost Planet doesn't exactly convince me. Then again, I'm assuming it's mostly a port. Isn't DX10 pretty much 80% DX9? What advancement can we realistically expect, and how soon do you guys think?

I wonder what the first 'big' game built completely around DX10 will be.

DX10 is actually a lot more advanced... to the extent that Microsoft doesn't even intend to release DX10 for windows XP. Vista onry!

edit: on top of that, most older versions of DX are natively backward-compatible, DX10 actually has to emulate DX9 and older... lol

I think you mean "DX10 is one of the only selling points Microsoft has for Windows Vista, so they do not intend to release it for Windows XP."

Its just too bad that DX 10 is newer than Vista. I will upgrade computer when: Vista SP1 releases, DX 10 Game's premiere, GeForce 9xxx series falls under $300, maybe $400.

Ya the 9000 series is coming;;

This.

Which is pretty funny, considering the only people that'll make use of DX10 will be Microsofts game studios. And a lot of those games are just going to be ports of 360 titles.

Until theres more Vista penetration, anyway.

What is DX10? Does that have to do with the graphic card? >.>

I have 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT on my new laptop...whats that have?

How so you not know what directx is?

My desktop much suck so horribly-I can't even watch that video without it lagging like hell.

DX10 is the API that programmers can use to access audio, video, and various inputs on Windows Vista. DX10 has lots of enhancements, optimized algorithms, etc over DX9. In order to actually take advantage of the video stuff though, the video card has to support DX10.

All 8000 series nvidia cards support DX10, so you're good.

Well, I know the name directx. I know it has to do with graphic cards, but I don't know what exactly...and I didn't know which one my laptop had =D

Ah cool, thanks.

But but but...
Well, the problem isn't so much DX10.1 as the fact that
A) DX10 compatible hardware, and DX10 itself were both designed in such a shortsighted manner, and
B) DX10.2+ might start using something developers will switch to.

Honestly, there's some controversy over just what the hell Microsoft thinks it's doing (See thread)... hopefully OpenGL 3 will bail us all out in the end...

I hate microsoft so much -_- the more shit they do just seems to piss me off because they screw over so many costumers.. Vista sucks, bah!!

sorry for rant...

Directx 10 does look pretty but I'll wait for awhile before bothering to upgrade to a stupid OS that can use it (or I'll just try that alky project). But first I need hardware upgrades anyways XD

Well Get an upgrade!!

Anyway, i will wait a year or 2 before upgrading to Vista and DX10, til whole bunch of software can co-exist with Vistra and XP
