Dynamis and Limbus Get a Makeover! (04/08/2008)

I think you guys are a little off. Some items really should be only obtained by the most diehard of players. No matter how much you think everything in the game should be accessible by all and to some extent it really is, certain items really do need to be out of reach for many others. If all items in this game turn into common drops accessible by all, they lose their value and the accomplishments themselves holds little meaning.

my major problem with this statement is that some players who can't be "diehard" players because of real life scheduling conflicts lose out on doing these events in order to obtain these "out of reach" items, so by default i should be considered a gimp because i can't be on the game for 15 hours a day all week to do said events to obtain said gear right?

And it makes sense to put it in to Dynamis, and doesn't actually contradict the storyline. I'm willing to bet Beaucedine in the past will be introduced along with the Dynamis update in order to reflect the change storyline-wise.

Why? Because Dynamis is based on the Hydra Corps that were sent to Dynamis - Beaucedine. From every nation, some of the best at each job were recruited to the "Hydra special forces" sent to the the northern regions in order to defeat the Dynamis Lord. Each person got special-made armor for their jobs, and the generals got a special weapon. However, when they entered Beaucedine, they got disoriented, and eventually turned on each other. They are the Hydra you see in Beaucedine Glacier.

Now, the way they could implement it in Dynamis without it being a giant plot hole etc. and make it make perfect sense, is that now that we adventurers have traveled back in time, we brought with us the art of the Corsairs, Blue Mages and Puppetmasters, and thus, we somewhat changed the past, and had them sew special armor for the Blue Mage, Corsair and Puppetmasters sent with them.

The only real plot hole then would be why there's no SCH and DNC AF2 in Dynamis. So in that case we should ask ourselves if they will introduce that too in the September patch.

15k for limbus? Fuck yeah. Now I won't feel so bad if I die trying to solo/duo the zone. :D

I think they just need to balance elite gear for the diehard players and pretty good gear for the rest ;P Like no one considers you gimp if you don't have a relic weapon...

No, you shouldn't be labeled a gimp, nor should you feel a gimp. You should realize that you have less time on ffxi--as you have--and have acquired other rewards in other areas of your life. I LOVE ffxi, and I love the accomplishments I made while I played die hard, who knows, 8 hours a day or so... But at the same time, I love the rewards I earn playing with my family most of the day now.

So, no, you should NOT feel the victim because you don't deserve a 4-12x hit weapon or a piece of body armour that drops ten times a year. You get what you get. Play the game, and enjoy it, and stop complaining. And those who do play for 8+ hours a day DO deserve more than you (and I) do. Deal with it.

I like the "Elite gear" statements really.

Especially since we all pay that $12.95+ to play the game.
And some people still think they are more privileged then others because they have more time to play and play the game differently then other people.

Funny.

Does this mean that there's gonna be three new mobs to kill in Xarcabard?

Why do you do this.

COR Relic looks kinda... eh

So... I was thinking about this some. If SE doesn't start instancing Dynamis, this would make the resulting congestion (even if it only lasts a few weeks/months until the hype disappears) a nightmare. "Everyone" will be rushing to do Dynamis for the new relic armor, and with it now possible to affordably low-man a Dynamis run there's going to be more people to compete with for what few zones and time we have available now...

Then again, this is a computer hardware maintenance that's going on right now, so perhaps that's exactly what's going to happen.

SE has said that relic weapons aren't for everyone and this is the quote from wiki about it, it may be outdated but it still applies.

Wiki said:
This entry may not make completely clear the fact that Relic Weapons are very time, money, and labor-intensive items to upgrade. Many individuals fail to realize the actual scope of the quest and begin it without having a real means of finishing it, usually giving up their upgrade after either the first or second upgrade. There are individuals who start their own Dynamis Linkshells - even sponsor their own runs, spending millions of gil on their own Timeless Hourglasses - for the sole purpose of obtaining Ancient Currency, Attestations and Fragments. Single-unit Currency is bazaared for thousands of gil on many servers; 100-unit Currency can sell for over a million, and 10,000-unit Currency is almost never sold. Prices may vary between servers. Of the few final-stage Relic Weapon owners in Final Fantasy XI who have come forward with their experiences, it's been learned that it will take two earth years to get the stage five relic.

Should you, the reader, decide to take on the task of completing a Relic Weapon, please be aware that this type of commitment may very well be necessary. You should seriously consider not performing any upgrades before you have the coins and attestation to upgrade all the way to Stage 4; that way if you give up you have the coins instead of a useless Stage 2-3 weapon.

Relic Knuckles --> Spharai Example
To give an example of the effort required here, lets make the following quite realistic assumptions: In one Dynamis run you gain about 100 single currency pieces. Mostly there are less, but the occasional 100 piece evens that out. You can go two times per week to a dynamis run (Or every 3 Earth Days).

Stage 1 > 2: 100 Byne Bill x 4

Stage 2 > 3: M. Silverpiece x 14

Stage 3 > 4: L. Jadeshell x 61

Stage 4 > 5: 10,000 Byne Bill x 1
= 17,900 single-unit Ancient Currency An average of 179 Dynamis runs
Approximately 112,000,000 - 179,000,000 gil Could take nearly 2 years

This sums up to 17,900 pieces of single-unit ancient currency, or an average of 179 Dynamis runs on the above assumption. This again means to do 2 Dynamis runs every week for 90 weeks, which would mean nearly two years if you were to obtain your currency simply by sponsoring your own Dynamis runs. Of course, upgraders typically buy Ancient Currency where they can (although it's not so abundant as most groups in Dynamis are collecting for their own sponsors Relic upgrades), and if the price of 100-unit pieces is approximately 800k - 1 million a piece, you're looking at a total of 112,000,000 - 179,000,000 gil worth of Ancient Currency. Not to mention the prices of any of the other items that are needed in the various stages of upgrades.

On top of all this is the requirement of a few Rare/Ex items that can only be obtained in Dynamis: Beaucedine and Dynamis: Xarcabard. These aren't items that drop off any mob while you're fighting your way to a win - you will need to go out of your way with your Dynamis group to obtain these items. And the fights aren't necessarily easy either.

So basically, this is a very long, very expensive process. Square-Enix has even said that Relic Weapons are not meant to be for everyone - they're only meant for a handful of people who have the means and resources to go about the upgrades. So if you would like to get a fully upgraded weapon, now have an idea of what you're in for!

or they can say that Aht Urhgan's spys went missing when they went to gather intelligent on the current war with Shaowlord ... it was big event that happen at Vana'diel after all

...yet.

Yeah, I said it.

It'll be a matter of time of course before we see "Relic holder since 2004/5/6" in bazaar comments, but after a while that'll get lost in the mix, just like all the THF knives, CoP wins pre-update, etc etc.

Winning cop has never and will never be a great achievement. They are missions, they are easy.

Anyway the updates in the previous years have all brought some nerfing of some sort : THF knife was one, there was walmart turban and we all lol'd at people that paid 20 millions for panther mask+1.

This time, really, I don't know if getting a relic will actually cost you half the money (speeking of people upgrading through buying coins, as they are the ones financing dynamis atm kinda). The economy has always been weird since SE is targeting RMTs. Once thing I noticed is some high value items would decrease a lot in price (Scorpion harness 15 millions -> 100k) while low value ones would have less fluctuations (Silk thread stack 40k > 10k). I don't think the price of dynamis coins will be cut by half. Probably more people will want to upgrade now, so more demand etc. Plus LSs will do more dyna-cop now since it costs less money to the LS bank, so probably less supply of coins. All the city dynamis can be cleared-or almost cleared- rather easily with 25 ish average groups, so having more people willing to do dynamis won't excatly increase the supply unless the start new LSs.

But that's the point, it still isn't for everyone to obtain.
Even with the Dynamis prices cut in half.

I don't know where you have been watching but even noumerous people have said before.
The STF hasn't been sitting on their lazy asses.
Slowly but certainly loads of gil has vanished from the economy making items that were 1,2 or 3 mil only 2 years ago bargain bin items today.
And not only because of market saturation.

A lot of sources of income have been killed and it's harder to get money these days then 2+ years ago.
It's harder to make 100k today then it was making 4 mil 2 or 3 years ago.

Like Trist I have to disagree as well, even though I'm 1/1 on almost every mission.
CoP is not a walkthrough by far.

Even today...

Almost every mission still needs rescources, knowhow and teamwork.

It pretty much is a walkthrough now... and kind of was before they made it easier. Now you can spend alot less time agroing ,farming CCB polymer pump, gold key or whatever you need to do the missions easy and fast. People can even do it without a static now easily, just by shouting.

I think the point is you still need a solid strategy to complete CoP, and you can't just bum rush it (like, say... all of Zilart).

Perhaps, but it still needs knowhow on how the mission BCs work.

You can't just take in any uninfomred avarage joe and expect to win.
Aside from that, they haven't touched 6-4.

As Xal. poseted above me, you still can't zerg rush it apart from maybe Tenzen.
But you could also do that before they made it easier.

I'm going to have to disagree with this bullshit, pchan.

The problem is you haven't forgotton how challenging it is, nor how much effort actually went into it. There is the possibility that said poster was walked right through it, though.

Pchan, just because you are a self-proclaimed "pimp" (read: you are the only one that thinks so), there's no reason to talk down on other's accomplishments. The CoP missions are hard in the fact that they take some dedication, and require a fair amount of teamwork. Just because you don't get a sense of achievement out of anything in this game besides one tiny facet (do you even get a sense of achievement here?), doesn't mean other people can't be proud of what they've done.

So I was in whitegate this weekend and antdog was shouting together an 8-3/8-4 run... I think this kid is finally researching how this game works.
